Stumbled into Owa after dinner on Abbot Kinney and ended up having one of the best bar experiences we’ve had in Venice. The space has this modern, grown-up, quietly cool energy—stylish without trying too hard, intimate but still lively.

We grabbed seats at the end of the bar and were lucky enough to be taken care of by Jaco, who turned the night into a full-on experience. Watching him work is like watching someone paint—every pour intentional, every cocktail dialed in, and his hospitality is just as good as his technique. He walked us through different Japanese sake bottles, flavor notes, and even how to pair them with cocktails. Absolute masterclass.

The drinks? Legit magic in a glass. Perfect balance, beautiful presentation, and each one had its own character. You can tell the team here takes pride in every detail.

Huge thank you to Jaco for the warm welcome and the education. We came in on a whim and walked out talking about when we’re coming back.
Owa is easily one of Venice’s hidden gems.

Overall the restaurant was vibrant – trendy music, good lighting, good service ! The food was all good but for the cost would expect better quality fish cuts or portions. Overall for vibes it was great and all the food was good, just would have expected more for the price .

Sat at the bar for an afternoon wine and bites. The service was fantastic. Bartender was hospitable, tentative, quick and just lovely all around. Welcomed everyone that entered immediately. A full bar and no one waited on a thing. Great job Forrest!!! A+

Had the best girls night at Owa. The crudo and tuna crispy rice were both so good, easily our favorites. The music was great and it’s such a perfect spot for a later dinner on a Friday or Saturday when you want good energy but still amazing food. Service really stood out too. We had a small issue and the owner came over personally to help, which says a lot. Would absolutely recommend for anyone looking for great food. Such a fun spot for a girls night or a date night!

From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm, stylish, and inviting—perfect for a night out. We kicked things off with drinks, and I had a Hugo Spritz—light, refreshing, and the perfect way to ease into the evening.

We went with the DineLA menu, which was a great way to sample a variety of their dishes. For starters, we ordered the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice and Vegetable Tempura—featuring zucchini and asparagus. Both were beautifully presented and full of flavor, especially that crispy rice, which had just the right balance of spice and texture.

For the mains, we chose two standout rolls:
The Kinney Roll, which combined salmon, yellowtail, spicy tuna, serrano, truffle ponzu, avocado, and sesame oil—an absolute explosion of flavor in every bite.
And the Rio Roll, a vegetarian twist on sushi, which was just as thoughtful and delicious.

One highlight? The fresh wasabi—seriously next level. It had a brightness and heat that really woke up the palate.

Now, for dessert, we tried the Tres Leches and a Matcha Tiramisu. Unfortunately, this is where the meal fell a little flat. The desserts didn’t quite live up to the rest of the experience—we found them underwhelming and lacking that wow factor.

Service-wise, the staff was incredibly attentive, and everything came out quickly and smoothly. Big kudos to our waiter who made us feel well taken care of.

Final verdict: Overall, Owa delivered on flavor, ambiance, and service. A few missteps with dessert, but I’d still give it a solid 7 out of 10. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area and craving Japanese with a creative, modern twist.

While the food was good, it was by no means stellar, especially considering how long each portion took to prepare. Furthermore, the waiter we had gave us an appalling attitude; as if he were some D-lister just named to the lineup of Dancing With The Stars, Season 34.
I ordered the Toro Tataki (which took over 40 minutes – and this is for an appetizer!), and the Teriyaki Salmon. Good, but by no means worth the $32 and $42 price tags, respectively. The salmon cut was a whopping four ounces, so you’re paying about ten bucks an ounce, unless you count the four asparagus spears they generously serve as a side.
Oh, and getting your appetizer 30 seconds before your main course is always a dream come true when you’re overpaying for food that was slightly above average.
Since I was there with a TimeLeft group, the service charge was included, almost guaranteeing subpar service. Candidly, had it not been included, I wouldn’t have left more than 15% for a server with the bedside manner of a wild boar. All this on top of a cacophonous atmosphere where you can barely hear the person next to you speaking.
There are a plethora of better options in Venice alone. Save yourself the drive through the clutter of Abbot Kinney. Heck, even DoorDashing an order from your favorite sushi restaurant is an infinitely better option.

Nice place! Not very friendly host, but great waiters!

Long wait for food, but we read about it in reviews, so we were prepared for it.

Food was tasty and fresh – 5/5. We ordered 4 different cocktails, but we liked only 2 out of 4.

DJ played in the evening (we were there on Saturday, booked a table in advance), almost all tables were occupied, the atmosphere was nice and fun.

A bit dirty in the restroom

Really enjoyed sitting by the fireplace for a friend’s birthday dinner. The nigiri was melt-in-your-mouth good, and the miso soup was unique (& delish). Would come back for date night or anytime for happy hour!

The salmon blue crab was delicious! Highly recommend. The spicy crispy tuna was not the best.

The service was very slow – even at 8 pm on a Thursday

Atmosphere is beautiful.
The seating by the window is so fun and cute but the chairs are very uncomfortable. I am 5 feet tall and they were hard to sit on
Parking can be difficult
Great walking area
Bathrooms are very clean
Full bar and good wine choices

We had the best table by the fireplace! The food is always amazing. It’s a bit pricey. The ambiance is spirited, and a little bit too loud – but that adds to the fun vibe.
