Welcome to Oushou Japanese Restaurant! Our stylish restaurant here in Brighton, specialises in traditional Japanese cuisine with a distinctive Australian twist. We love the creative spirit of modern Australian cuisine, so Oushou Japanese Restaurant created a fresh sushi & sashimi menu drawing from this as well as the izakaya and sushi bar style of dining – and we’d love for you to come and pay us a visit. Oushou Japanese Restaurant’s menu is bursting with a wide range of dishes, including our tataki & carpaccio, sake & whisky, taco, signature eye fillet steaks that are served with a mayo-teri sauce, gyoza, sushi and sashimi. The we had the tasting meal that was $59pp.
The variety on the first course was well put together and delicious. Second course was mid – We were two people so we got the tempura and salmon.

My wife and I dined here on Sunday evening with 2 friends. The food and service were excellent. I particularly enjoyed the black miso cod dish. The restaurant is very comfortable but the noise level was very high – the acoustics seemed poor and it was difficult holding a conversation.

It is a beautiful little Japanese restaurant in this area. Food is standard, sashimi is fresh, however the rice in the sushi is a bit hard and doesn’t really feel fresh. It’s like reheated or put out there for too long so the edges are a bit dry.
The duck was not what I have expected, it was like just boiled and loaded with hoisin (seafood) sauce. Wouldn’t recommend it. Neither would recommend the Unagi.
The serive was quick, however the waitress seemed to try to challenge the customer, hasty on the order. Before we could get seated, she has already asked us 3 times if we wanted sparkling or still water, blocking my way to the seats. I had to tell her to move away to let me get seated first before I could answer her. It was not a very pleasant beginning from the start.

I now have a new favourite Japanese restaurant. This one is stunning; both in decor and food. It’s got a very modern vibe to it, and all of us loved it. The food was also beyond delicious. Everything we ordered was fantastic. Where their service let them down was the length in time it took for food to come out. I got my entree first, but had to wait for the longest time for everyone else to get theirs. We came to eat out together, not watch each other eat one by one. Also, there was so much confusion by the waiter as to where each dish should go. At a restaurant of this calibre, they can do what others do and know in advance who orders what, especially after asking if we were sharing.
With that said … this is a fantastic restaurant that I’ll definitely go to again. Parking is a pain due to the council cutting out parking spaces, but it’s worth it. Pricing is a teeny steep, but again, worth it, because the quality and the taste is there. I definitely recommend this to any Japanese food lover.

I think I am a reasonable critic, and I give equal attention to one star rating as much as 5 stars.
When I look back some of the low rating from a year ago looks like nothing has changed and clearly this establishment doesn’t really take notice of these customer feedback.
Almost identical to another reviewer here, We waited for seems like eternity where it says ‘wait to be seated’, before a frantic young girl led us to our table. Clearly the places under staffed and everyone is frantic.
I even joke to my partner at the start of the night that no one would notice if I take any of the Asahi glasses off the bar, and sure enough by the end of the night the pile just got bigger and none of those glasses was there at the start of the night were moved.
The only saving grace was food was delicious and reasonably priced, however lacked vegetarian options for my partner.
Will I go again? No

Having given this restaurant a great thumbs up , 7 of us dined tonight including 5 family relations from USA . The food was acceptable BUT the service was atrocious. It should not be necessary to have to request more water several times and the food delivery terrible. 4 of us finally received our main course, 1/2 hr wait for 1 more, another 1/2 hr for next guest and then 40 minutes for the last person. Food should have been presented together , have eaten here before, but the staff and kitchen must get there act together or at least apologise for the very unprofessional way our meal was served. Look after customers properly, replace empty water jugs without having to ask repeatedly. I was most embarrassed for our American family , this service would not happen in USA.
