Social Profile:

In the 1870s, a German immigrant named Otto Toepfer built the old farmhouse, which is now home to Otto’s Restaurant & Bar, for his family. The architecture is in keeping with style of homes built during that time. It has a 2-foot-thick foundation and was built using bricks brought up from Louisiana by barges on the Mississippi River. The Toepfer property on which the house stands once extended from Whitney Way to Gammon Road and from the Beltline to Mineral Point Rd. There are still many relatives of Otto Toepfer living in the Madison area. Otto’s Restaurant & Bar opened in June of 1987, after almost a full year of renovation. Its original owner named the restaurant Otto’s as an homage to Otto Toepfer and subsequent owners have maintained.

Upscale Mediterranean fare plus a full bar served in a quaint 1870s farmhouse.

Restaurants that are situated in an old house are always a treat to enjoy, and Otto’s is no exception. The restaurant has a very quaint, cozy feel to it, making you feel at home from the moment you arrive. A lot of outdoor seating is available around the property, and there is also plenty of seating inside the house. The food is hearty and filling – I had the seafood trio, which was absolutely scrumptious and filled me up. You can tell that the food is prepared from scratch – everything has a genuine, authentic flavor to it. Finally, our waitress was incredible. Erika was our waitress, and she did a fantastic job making sure my table was attended to, as well as bringing a welcome sense of heart and humor to the table. She even gave me advice for college! If you’re in the Madison area looking for a place to enjoy genuine, friendly service and delicious food, look no further than Otto’s!

Otto’s was an experience worth sharing. Great for special occasions. But life is short, so why not create an excuse to spoil yourself at Otto’s. Excellent drinks, seafood, and ribeye. Attentive and accommodating service. Highly recommended.

We stopped in just to try Ottos. It was a busy night and we did not have reservations but they were able to get us in for dinner. Our server Sam was Amazing. Her knowledge of the menu was spot on. We were on the 3rd level and she hustle the whole night. We had too wait on our food because they were so busy but Sam was continually checking in on us and keeping us updated. She was a Rock Star.

This was my first time attempting to dine at Ottos. My friends and I got a table in the bar and ordered a bottle of wine. As the server was opening the bottle, the manager came over and told my friend that she needed to leave and he did not want her in the bar and that we could stay but she had to leave. My friend was an old employee who quit due to a hostile work environment a few years ago, however she does not cause trouble or do anything that would make us think she wasn’t welcome. Extremely rude, first and last time I will ever come here! I have never had such a shocking experience, especially at a restaurant that is held to such high standards. Do not recommend.

Love going to Otto’s for food and music on the deck. They’ve got curtains and heaters if it gets cold but usually it’s perfect on its own. They have a lot of gluten-free and vegetarian choices. Their wait staff are excellent, so friendly and fast that I always have to leave a nice tip.

This was our 14th annual trip to Otto’s, and they never disappoint! Great food, great music on the deck, and happy faces all around. Thank you, Otto’s!

Food is excellent, and that’s a great top priority for a restaurant. The halibut with beurre blanc is a great choice if they have it. Service is slow but it was a busy night. The only issue I have with the dining room is how loud other tables seem to be, it would be a much more peaceful place to eat if there was more ambient sound or sound deadening.

LOVE Otto’s! Happy hour is great, but do try the full menu. Gotta get the mussels in cream sauce. Use your bread to sop up as much of the sauce as you can. Choose any other app – you can’t go wrong. After an entree I’ve never had enough room for dessert. Staff is excellent!

Entire table of 7 ladies thoroughly enjoyed Mediterranean appetizer, salads, tomato bisque, and multiple entrees. Sea bass melted in your mouth! Sea food platter had shrimp, scallops and salmon with tasty veggies. Spinach artichoke pasta, Greek chicken salad, and Mediterranean platter {esp lamb and couscous) were also delicious.
