The salmon in grape leaves was good but lacked flavor. We had the bread pudding for dessert, which was free for our anniversary celebration. It was not a moist cake like a typical bread pudding, seemed more of dry sweet bread/biscuit with a glaze. The old farm house charm was nice. Staff were pleasant and met all our needs. But sadly, we went for the food and the dishes we had were definitely not worth the price. I don’t think we will be going back.
We Google searched some local restaurants for our date night, and Otto’s popped up. So we decided to give it a try.
It’s based out of an old farm house and is actually pretty big. The service was great and the food was delicious. I had duck and my wife had scallops.
If you’re looking for a restaurant with great ambiance and food, definitely check out Otto’s!
Otto’s is located in an old house. Therefore, the layout of the restaurant inside is quite unique. Along with the lighting and decor, it gives the restaurant a cozy and warm feel to it.
Nicole was our server. After telling her it was our first time here, she was quite helpful and answered all of our questions.
(First I’d like to apologize- I did not use flash for my pictures. I didn’t want to be THAT person. I also forgot to take a picture of the Chef’s Tasting Menu, so I don’t recall the actual names of the plates we had)
I tried their NA apple mule, which was quite delicious.
For an appetizer we started off with the Otto’s sample platter. Which included bruschetta, stuffed mushrooms and prosciutto wrapped shrimp.
Everything was very good.
We ended up ordering off of the Chef’s tasting Menu that was available.
So for our first course, we both had the bacon wrapped chestnuts.
These were quite yummy.
Second course, I ordered the veal, mashed potatoes and asparagus.
The sauce for this meal, pulled everything together beautifully. It was incredible.
My husband went with the seafood platter. I couldn’t tell you what all was in it. I remember sea bass, mussels, shrimp maybe? It was amazing.
For the first course, we shared the espresso crème brûlée. Yes you heard that right. ESPRESSO crème brûlée. It. was. amazing.
We also had the cherry macaroons. Which were unlike anything I’ve ever had. I still think of them.
The environment was cozy and intimate. Our server was amazing. The food, you can tell is carefully crafted, and arrives HOT to the table.
What more could you ask for?
If you need a date night location, check this place out!
The spinach artichoke pasta with shrimp deserves special mention — it was absolutely phenomenal. The pasta was perfectly cooked, the sauce was rich and flavorful without being heavy, and the shrimp were tender and seasoned to perfection. It struck that perfect balance of comfort food and fine dining elegance.
Our server/bartender, Brian, elevated the experience even further. He took our entire table’s order completely by memory — not a single note, and not a single mistake! That alone was impressive, but he went above and beyond throughout the night with impeccable timing, genuine warmth, and deep knowledge of the menu.
And then there were the drinks — wow. I ordered a Manhattan, and I can honestly say it was the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly balanced, smooth, and crafted with real skill. Brian clearly knows his way around the bar.
If you’re in Madison and looking for an evening of exceptional food, top-tier service, and craft cocktails done right, Otto’s should be at the top of your list. I’ll absolutely be back!
On a recent visit, we felt invisible to staff. Not only did staff not serve us as to be expected of a restaurant in this price range, they casually chatted amongst themselves as if we were not even there. Maybe because my partner and I were speaking Spanish? We decided to pay for our drinks, leave, and go spend $300 on dinner for two people somewhere else.

Otto’s was an experience worth sharing. Great for special occasions. But life is short, so why not create an excuse to spoil yourself at Otto’s. Excellent drinks, seafood, and ribeye. Attentive and accommodating service. Highly recommended.
