I was very excited since the opening was announced. However, I left tonight with mixed feelings. The ambiance was a bit underwhelming, I didn’t care for the hotel lobby feeling. Food was mostly one note (tomato based curry?), not sure what was up bit that. I found the dishes a tad too acidic.
The pacing was off, and the service completely underwhelming. The staff weren’t attentive to us (although more so to the bigger group next to us), there was no explanation, nothing. We waited 40 minutes for the starters and another and another 30 for the main (after we finished). I am aware this is not the kind of place to be rushed at, however, at the very least you would expect for the staff to check in with us, offer more drinks, etc. There was a long gap after we had our main and at some point we lost interest in the desert or more drinks.
We also made the restaurant aware it was our anniversary, a small complimentary gesture would have been appropriate.
Overall, Ottolenghi Amsterdam left a lot to be desired.

The food was very tasty, with the the lamb shoulder and the celeriac shawarma being the highlights for us! The service however has huge room for improvement, with only one exception. Despite being at the table for 30 minutes with nothing but water, we struggled to order. After we managed to order, the food arrived quickly. However no explanation of the dishes was given, with the exception of the dessert that was presented by the one attentive staff member.

I’m a huge ottolenghi fan so was very excited for my first experience at one of his restaurants. Not sad I came, but a little underwhelmed. Ambiance was meh and over the top fancy, service was attentive but pacing was off, and the food was a bit one note. Highlights were the desserts and lamb shoulder.

I love Ottolenghi so had to try his first restaurant in Amsterdam. The service was attentive but our food was delivered in quick succession and not timed well. I am not a big fan of hotel restaurants overall so the atmosphere was just you know…a hotel restaurant. Food was the better part of the experience but I wasn’t wowed either.
