This was my first time here, and it’s already my favorite Italian restaurant so far. I didn’t feel sick after eating, I can tell they use high-quality ingredients. The service was exceptional—everyone was genuinely warm and friendly. Honestly, the hospitality felt so much nicer than in Chicago. You don’t
usually get this kind of thoughtful, welcoming treatment there.

The appetizers were excellent, and the pasta dishes were pretty good as well. If you’re near the Capitol, it’s worth stopping by, but I wouldn’t go out of my way just to visit. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was fairly average, and the music was a bit loud. The prices weren’t particularly cheap, but not overly expensive either.

I recommend making a reservation since it gets busy even on a weekday. Arrived at 6:30pm for dinner. Ordered the Cinghiale pasta. The meat was firm and rich in flavour and the pappardelle was cooked al dente. For dessert, we ordered the Budino di Caramello. I did not have high expectations for the dish but was pleasantly surprised – sweet, buttery, and simply delicious.

One of my favorite Italian restaurants in Madison, with a daily rotating menu. We sat at the high top and had a nice open window view. My favorite was the pasta — extremely fresh and the sausage was cooked perfectly. Great place for fresh Italian food and rich but not heavy flavors.

This place is hands down the best spot for Italian game meat. I’ve tried their wild boar, antelope, and even camel here. I’m really hoping to get a chance to try their beef too.

We were really excited for the restaurant and we were disappointed.

I do not remember the Italian names but here it goes.

Pasta – no salt. I thought my taste buds were dead.
Pesto ravioli – really good. Only Good dish.
Grilled meat – average
Fried cauliflower – good
Dessert pudding – not worth $10

Ambience:
Seriously? I don’t get it. What are you going for? The place is dimly lit deliberately to avoid people from seeing how horrible the ambience is. The floor is an old warehouse flooring.

Service:
I appreciate that they made a custom dish for my wife but other than that below average for a place you pay $30 per entree.

Will not visit again. Yes, great date place to impress your partner that you have fantastic taste in food but you know deep down the food was underwhelming.

I really enjoyed the food, especially the salumi. The dishes were cooked with full heart and every bite was a surprise! The waiter also explained each course. Will come back again.

Osteria killed It tonight. Last night of restaurant week. The soup was phenomenal. The zuppetta was outstanding. We both had the sea trout, which was perfectly prepared over a bed of fantastic caponata. The negronis were the best in Madison. The deserts were also perfect: the ricotta cake and the crostata. Perfect meal. Thanks.

My friend and I have a tradition of going to Osteria Papavero each May to celebrate the end of the semester. It’s definitely Madison’s hidden gem. Great menu, very cozy atmosphere. I really like their complimentary bread basket that has interesting fried bread. Pastas, appetizers and desserts are superb! Looking forward to going back there again!
