My airmen complain about this kitchen 24/7, apparently the 1-2 gentlemen currently working there during swing shift hours are notorious for leaving the door locked during operating hours, and having minimal options, for example, today my airman told me all they had was hotdogs, and apples, I’m not sure how it functions organizationally but it upsets me that he’s having money from his check removed monthly and still cant get his nutrition all because the staff rather watch a sporting event instead of stocking their food.

In the 80s and 90s the official name was The Inflight Kitchen, but we called it “Box Nasty” because the meals were served in a box.
I remember my first Chemical warfare exercise at “Shady J.” About 3am we were playing spades in the back of the box van when someone said “I’m hungry, let’s go to Box Nasty.” I asked “what the hell is box nasty?” They all laughed and one said “You’re in for a real treat!”
We got in line and each picked one of the 5 boxed lunch options. The guy in front of me got the fried chicken, so I got that to. He grabbed, napkins and a handful of Texas Pete packets. Inside the box were fries, an apple and two pieces of greasy fried chicken. If you doused the chicken in Texas Pete it was’nt bad.
Later they started serving lunches in bags, so the name changed to “Bag Nasty.” The ladies that served us were very nice, but they would scold us if they heard us say “box nasty” or “bag nasty.”
