A little jewel in Portland that is worth driving miles to see. We came in from Kingston and the narrow unassuming entrance hides the experience that lies at the bottom of the foot path. Rustic, intimate and breathtaking nestled on a narrow strip between the green hillside and the beautiful sea. The service was great, the ambiance spectacular and the food… WOW.

Overall this was a great experience, for the food I loved everything except the lobster. Im only deducting point for controllable things like the wait for the meal, amenities and how the meal was presented. I love the Idea and atmosphere and i really want to give 5 stars but I can’t do so honestly. I would still recommend it, it’s worth the visit but at that price I expect the service to be more polished.

This joint was recommended by someone, and if you know me i’m always on the lookout for well cooked meals, so I’ve become a bit of a skeptic, but the person was dead on. I ordered fish soup as an appetizer and my main dish was crab, fish, and curry goat. They also served water and pineapple juice. The soup had a nice spice level and a great seafood flavor profile. The crab, fish, and goat were also 5 level, for tenderness, taste, and amount served. The only hitch is that it took quite some time for our food served. One more note though is that they appear to be still working on the bathrooms. I really wanted to go with a 5, which the food and atmosphere were, but the bathrooms did knock it down one notch. That said, I would return, and perhaps the bathrooms will be completed.

This spot was recommended to me during my short visit to Jamaica, mainly for the food and portion sizes relative to the price.

My friend had previously visited twice with a group, paying $10,000 JMD per person, and was served an abundance of food platter-style. Based on her experiences, we decided to try the couples package.

We waited just over an hour for the food, which wasn’t a major issue since we were there specifically for the meal. However, once the food arrived, we were disappointed with the portion sizes. The serving for two people is strictly portioned for two — for example, exactly two fish — whereas group packages are served on large platters. A group of four may receive a platter with up to six fish.

Our total bill came to $34,000 JMD ($17,000 JMD per person), which felt expensive for the amount of food received. I’ve included a video showing the food for transparency. In comparison, dining as part of a group costs $10,000 JMD per person and provides significantly more food.

While the goat meat stood out positively, the oxtail and fish could use improvement, and the festive was an absolute no-go. The ambiance itself was nothing special, and I hope over time the owners improve the overall setting and upgrade the bathroom facilities.

Overall, I would not recommend the couples package. You’ll get far better value for your money by visiting as part of a group. Personally, I wouldn’t return.

The food was very good. Everyone was very kind and helpful. We were not impressed with the music selection. We would have appreciated more island vibe music to help lift the atmosphere. The beach was very nice but it needed to be cleaned. $10,000 for two vegan meals and juice was well overpriced. Was originally $12,000 until we questioned it. We live in Jamaica so we know the going prices. We thought we had a new hangout spot, but we can not afford to be repeat customers as we had planned. We paid 3 times higher than average. The island has “foreigner price” but this was too high. Food is cooked to order, which we love. You can enjoy the beach and patiently wait for the food to be prepared. They also except reservations. We are glad we were able to experience it but can’t afford to come back, unfortunately. We wish Oshea and staff all the best.

Are you looking to have a picnic by the beach? Taking a day trip to Portland and wondering where you can stop and relax, take a swim and have some delicious local eats? Check out Osheas 876 Kitchen and reserve your own picnic by the beach.

The drive to Portland might be a harrowingly long one depending on where you are staying, but it will give you time to see the real jamaica as you pass coastal villages, droves of coconut trees kissing the roads, and an abundance of farms with fruits in season.

The location sits directly on the beach and you will instantly feel the vibe of tranquility as soon as you exit the car and smell the aromas of soup cooking.

A tent will be organized with pillows and a table on the ground, chairs are available for those who would prefer to sit in them. Take this time to grab a swim, explore the cave (but make sure you have shore shoes) while the food cooks . By the time you have enjoyed the tranquil waters, a round of soup with both lobster and chicken will be served. Both soups were light, with just enough flavor to prepare the pallet for the heavy meal to follow.

The prearranged menu allows you to select three main dishes (meat or seafood) that included lobster, snapper, jerk pork, curry goat, oxtail, jerk chicken, fresh vegetable slaw, rice and peas, and festival! The lobster was sweet, and not overcooked, the snapper fried nicely and seasoned, the jerk pork tender. The vegetable slaw was crisp and a nice balance to accompany the seafood and meat. Basmati rice was used for the rice and peas, cooked to perfection with a slow hint of heat and fresh coconut milk. I have never tasted a festival that had such sweetness yet held the perfect density and remained fluffy.

I don’t care if you are a fan of juices or not, the cucumber lemonade is an absolute must, and since a fresh coconut comes with the experience, don’t forget to bust it open and scrape out the jelly.

Now, please remember this is outdoor cooking using wood and coal in a rustic environment. Don’t expect that bland resort food, or quick service. Prepare your mind to enjoy island time so that your expectations of the experience are not tainted.

The food is all cooked fresh, and on site after arrival, so please understand if the wait time seems extended. All staff assist in cooking and serving, but are friendly and attentive. Take a minute to visit the guys under the tent over the flames, nothing but happy smiles ready to answer questions and explain what’s bubbling in the pot!

This is a hard working crew, make sure you tip them well and give honest feedback about the food and service, I am sure it will be much appreciated!

Areas of Improvement

The restroom needs running water, and didn’t have toilet paper during my visit, but there is a pipe outside with running water for you to wash your hands.

The timing of the food, while I did enjoy the experience, the food took almost 3 hours and that is a problem because nobody wants to spend all that time in the water.

The seating is on the sand and very low and could be difficult for an elderly person to get up off the sand and pillows.

While the staff is attentive, time could be managed a bit better to provide a more pleasant experience and much quicker delivery of the food.

Yes I would book again, but I would hope the areas that need improvement would have been addressed. Enjoy

The experience is nice. Definitely for seafood lovers. The music is good, table set up good and catering style ok. We had a little wait for the food and my chicken was cold but everyone else with the seafood enjoyed it. I think it’s a little pricey, the cost can be scaled back a little. Drinks not included and the serving size is a little small. But it’s a nice authentic Jamaican experience on the beach.

Amazing service at Oshea’s Kitchen! I was coming down to Jamaica with 14 family members, for my aunt’s funeral, in September 2022, and we were going to be in Jamaica for my mom’s birthday as well. All she talked about was seeing Oshea’s food on instagram. So I was determined to make it happen, and surprise everyone in the group. I contacted them 14 days before the date that I requested, asking if the date was available for 14 people. Once they replied and told me that it was possible, I asked if I could change that number to 20 people! Without any problems, they were able to accommodate me and my family. This was some of the best food that I’ve had for a while in Jamaica. A lot of these restaurants don’t cook the same way that they used to, and take short cuts. But everything is fresh here and you can taste the difference, this is quality food!

I chose the “Mixed Dishes” option, where I was able to choose 3 different meats. I chose the fried chicken, oxtail, and seafood. I asked it I was able to split my seafood options up and do 15 red snapper and 5 lobsters. They were able to do that no problem! I chose fish tea as the starting soup, and we asked for some more chopped scotch bonnet to spice it up once we each had our individual cups. As our sides, we had rice and peas, ripe plantain, and bammy. The food was DELICIOUS. Everyone enjoyed the food, and there was even enough for some to take home leftovers. We went rafting down the Rio Grande, and went to Oshea’s Kitchen shortly after. We ran a little behind on time and showed up an hour and a half after our scheduled time, and they were very accommodating, I made sure to keep them updated throughout the day on the time that we were going to reach. Which they had no problem with, as they had our group as the only reservation for the day. We did not have to rush to leave, and we were able to enjoy our time and relax at Oshea’s 876 Kitchen. They also included two complimentary bottles of wine!

The location is not the easiest to find, but they sent me their location and landmarks to look out for once we were enroute to the location.

After ranting and raving about the food and service, I am coming back later this year, with my cousin and her friends for her birthday celebration. We are going to make reservations with Oshea’s Kitchen once again! It’s a MUST! Thank you guys!
