Osaka Japanese Steakhouse is hands down our favorite Japanese restaurant, not just in Flowood, but anywhere we’ve eaten. We come here often, and the experience is consistently excellent every single time.
We usually split our visits about half and half between sushi nights and hibachi nights, and both are outstanding. The sushi is always incredibly fresh, beautifully prepared, and high quality. I’ve never once questioned the quality of their fish or ingredients. Everything tastes clean, balanced, and thoughtfully made. It’s the kind of place where you feel confident ordering anything on the menu because you know it’s going to be good.
The hibachi is just as impressive. The chefs put on a fun, engaging show, especially for the kids, and my son absolutely loves it every time. They do a great job interacting with the table, keeping everyone entertained, and still delivering perfectly cooked food. The hibachi meals are consistently flavorful, cooked just right, and served hot and fresh.
What really sets Osaka apart is the consistency. Whether we’re coming in for sushi only or sitting down for a full hibachi experience, the food is always top notch and the atmosphere is welcoming and fun. It’s a place we trust completely and keep coming back to again and again.
If you’re anywhere near Flowood and looking for exceptional Japanese food, Osaka is a must.

We love hibachi, but we’d never been to Osaka Japanese Restaurant
Truthfully, most hibachi in Central Mississippi is middle-of-the-road. There’s a handful of small places with charm, but they don’t offer anything unique or stand out that much.
Osaka is the exception. We found their chefs to be engaged and interesting. Their ingredients are super high quality and everything was cooked how it should be. They balanced the cook times perfectly so that every item was just right.
I really appreciated the depth of flavor I’m the clear soup. Best I’ve ever had.
Salad had extras that aren’t normal for hibachi salads – including tomato and cucumber. I liked this.
Perfect hibachi and a new favorite.
Side note – every other state I’ve had hibachi in offers a mustard sauce. It’s the best of all sauces. Why is there no mustard sauce in Mississippi?

Osaka is always a great sushi place to eat. The service is always great and so is the atmosphere. First time going in December and they decorated the whole restaurant for Christmas. It was very festive! The only reason I gave them 4 stars was because I had a fish bone in my sushi which was a first for me.

I’ve been going to Osaka for over 2 decades, and while the location has changed, the quality sushi has not. IMO the best place for sushi in the tri-county area. Whether you’re traditional eater, or looking for unique special rolls, it’s a great spot! Not to mention the freshness and portioning for the price is also the best in the area.

I gave the service a one star. The reason is because when we showed up with a party of 13 the reservation for 2000 hrs was not found! After waiting for an hour outside they finally got us seated. I asked for a comp on the appetizers and the manager Dolly agreed. Yet, after I got home nothing was comped for the inconvenience. I called her and she said “I forgot all about it.” I live in another state so I could not get any type of credit. Just my named entered into the “Comp Book.” The point here is that I should not have had to ask. She should have offered something herself. The bill was $494.38. Customer service has gone the window with this and many other businesses. Very sad!!!!!

Let’s talk about Osaka. To start, the restaurant was decorated beautifully for Christmas when we visited and everyone was very friendly and cordial. My experience was a little mixed, but it seemed to me the wait staff were stretched a little thin at the hibachi tables. It took some time to get the soups and salads and I got left out as I was the only one at the table that had to wait for soup. However, the soup was delicious and nice and hot, so that made up for it a little. It took some time to get the beer I ordered as well, especially with my second beer. The next portion, the hibachi cooking, was great. The chef, an older gent, seemed into it and gave a good performance. He cooked the food perfectly and the fillet and scallops combo dinner I order was excellent. Price was average, around $70 for my wife and I. All in all, a great time, with the caviot of the wait for the soup and beer. I’d eat here again.

First, as a short person, I was surprised shocked to see they did NOT have the high bar type chairs at the hibachi tables. FINALLY, I was able to sit comfortably and fully enjoy my food. I really liked the atmosphere, their service, and the food was good. I was very impressed at the hibachi chef attention to each of our food order with details on how we get preferred our food. I will be returning to Osaka!

This was my very first time coming to this location. Which is my wife’s favorite hibachi restaurant & now I know why. We had to wait about 30 minutes, which wasn’t bad. The service was pretty good & the food was even better. I had chicken hibachi w/ vegetables & fried rice. My wife had salmon hibachi w/ vegetables & fried rice as well. The cook was precise with his cooking & very attentive. The garlic butter was like icing on the cake for me. I definitely enjoyed everything especially watching him cook the food right in front of me. I definitely will be back for another good meal. If you’re curious about this place just go try it out for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
