Original Tommy’s in Burbank absolutely delivers if you’re craving classic, no-frills comfort food. The place has that old-school burger joint vibe where you know exactly what you’re getting—and that’s a good thing. It’s loud, busy, and unapologetically messy in the best way possible.

I ordered the double chili cheeseburger, and it did not disappoint. The patties were juicy, the cheese melted perfectly, and the chili tied everything together with that signature Tommy’s flavor—rich, savory, and a little indulgent. It’s definitely a “grab extra napkins” kind of burger, but that’s part of the experience.

The chili cheese fries were just as good, loaded with chili and cheese from top to bottom so every bite hit. The fries held up well under all that goodness and didn’t turn soggy, which is key. Overall, if you’re in Burbank and want something filling, satisfying, and classic, Original Tommy’s is a solid choice that lives up to the hype.

I stopped by this Original Tommy burger place this morning because I saw their Instagram reel deal on the Double Classic California burger. I was already across the street getting something for my parents so it just made sense to stop by here. I came in the morning so finding parking in the back parking was easy since I came right when they open. I showed the person taking my order the Instagram reel and he honored the price. I also got French fries on the side to finish my order. It didn’t take long for my order to be ready and I left to eat it at home. They have some seating here if you’re planning on eating here. I thought my burger was delicious but the fries seem very plain. Usually the fries are good here but it was plain today.

WHERE’S THE BEEF!!!!, you ask? Oh, it’s buried somewhere under a mountainous pile of lettuce at Tommy’s Famous Burgers—because who needs protein when you’ve got greens, right? This place was an absolute delight—if by “delight” you mean a sad, lettuce-drenched tragedy. If you’re in the mood for a salad that just pretends to be a burger, congratulations, you’ve found your culinary nirvana. Honestly, I can’t even fathom how this place got its “famous” status, unless it’s for breaking records in burger patty paper-thinness. The patty was so thin, I half-expected to see through it. I’m talking ghost patty thin.

The cheese? Oh, bless its heart—it was thicker than the actual meat. And that tomato? Somehow it became the most substantial thing in the burger. Who knew a humble tomato would outshine a burger in its own burger? But the true star of the show was the lettuce, obviously. At some point, I had to double-check if I was in a salad bar or a burger joint. The lettuce seemed to have staged a coup and was trying to overthrow every other ingredient in the sandwich, suffocating everything with its leafy dominance.

As for the flavor? Lettuce, with a hint of tomato. It was like chewing on a garden, with only a whiff of meat trying to remind you of its existence. But hey, let’s give credit where credit’s due: the fries were actually fantastic, like they were the only thing keeping the whole operation from falling apart. And speaking of speed, the service was so fast it was like they knew their “burger” couldn’t stay together for more than a couple of seconds. They probably just threw it together in a rush—who can blame them? That patty was practically air.

And at $34 for two burgers and fries, I think I just paid the world’s most expensive lettuce sandwich. Never again, Tommy. Next time I crave a “burger,” I’ll make sure it’s not a leafy disappointment with a side of regret.

You know that one customer that shows up at the final minute placing a ridiculous order? Yeah, I was that customer. Luckily, Irwin and the staff at the Burbank location of Tommy’s were so accommodating and welcome, that they gained a new customer. One that will try not to arrive in the final hour.

Repost from A yelp review I wrote:
Original Tommy’s is absolutely a must-visit to experience the LA late-nite food scene. It is unique to say the least. The original in Hollywood at Beverly and Rampart is the mecca, but this location rocks the classic menu when you are in Glendale/Burbank and need a fix. For any true food lover, this will be a category by itself. ! They feature a limited, but creative menu that they will do their best to make your burger ‘your way. the fries are to die for as well. No alcohol, there is a dive bar across the street for that though. The eclectic atmosphere in line will be a story to tell as well. A true LA original.

Tommy’s really fell off didn’t they. First of all they wouldn’t accept a 5 dollar bill I had because it was too old. Even though it sins have rips or folds in it? Is that even legal? I have to break a 20 in order to get my food. And the server was a complete jerk. On top of that the hamburger tasted a little weird and my mom said her hot dog was not edible. I used to love that place. Now I’ll just have to wait in line at In N Out like everyone else. Thumbs down
