I have been here several times and the food and service is always great. We waited about twenty minutes to be seated which I think was pretty good considering how busy they were. The service was great as our waitress was attentive and nice. The food came out hot and it was tasty as usual. This is definitely my go to breakfast spot when I’m in the Charlotte area.

Open for breakfast and lunch only, until 2:00 weekdays and 3:00 weekends. Very popular place, excellent food. Expect a wait on weekends. Secret (not on menu) senior plate with very reasonable price and options, similar to the kids plate, but you have to ask about it. Interior updated recently with fresh, simple decor. National franchise restaurant; Charlotte is lucky to have two of the 100 locations Nationwide.

I’ve never been so disappointed at a breakfast place in my life. I thought the food was going to be good because this place always has lines wrapped around the building. Boy was I wrong!
Pro:
1. We joined the wait list through Google so we only had a 30 minute wait to be seated.
2. The price range is not bad. $15 to $20 plus

Cons:
1. ATMOSPHERE – This place was packed to the gills. The tables are extremely close together. We were packed in there like sardines.
2. WAIT TIME – We waited over an hour for our food. We had to ask our server about the wait. She told us that the kitchen had an order backlog
3. PANCAKES – We inquired about the strong yeast taste. Our server confirmed that they put yeast in the batter. Anyone who knows anything about cooking or baking should have enough sense to know that YEAST does not belong in pancakes! Yeast can activate a little in pancakes, but it cannot proof. The dummy that thought of this is trying to create a fluffier pancake by the yeast reacting to the leavening agents. However, they’re baking science is off. All they accomplished was making INEDIBLE BEER FLAVORED PANCAKES. I couldn’t finish them. I only ate what I did because I was starving from the long wait. This place used to make the best pancakes years ago.
4. OMELETTE – My western omelette was over an inch thick and had no taste. When I asked about their method of cooking them, the server told me their French style. Apparently they poured too much batter in a saucepan until it puffs up into the mess that it was.
5. HOMEFRIES/HASHBROWNS – they were mostly peppers and onions. Very little potato to be found.
None of us finished our food, and that never happens. We will not be going back.

Only giving two stars due to our server being good at their job. Arrived with two other friends and received quick seating in a less than half filled restaurant this past Friday afternoon. We ordered the little miner, pigs in a blanket (with no powdered sugar) with an additional scrambled egg with cheese on the side, and the grilled cheese with hashbrowns.

The pigs in a blanket came with powdered sugar (ugh, okay I’ll just brush it off), but then I realized the American cheese was actually microwaved on top of the egg (brown spots on the top of the cheese and pieces of cheese plastered and hardened to the plate). One of my friends then shared that the sweet tea they ordered tasted like straight syrup and the grilled cheese had flavors from other meats and items cooked on the grill previously suggesting they aren’t cleaning their surfaces. (We all tried it and had to agree)

We called our server over and explained and although they were understanding, they had to come back to our table a few times because they stated they could not find a manager to resolve the issue or get it remade. Finally, we saw them speaking to the manager (who did not come over and never left the kitchen area) and they informed us it would be taken off the menu.

We know OPH is now under new management and looking at the reviews sorted by newest, you can see a steep decline in ratings and a pattern of inefficient management, inconsistent flavors as a result of cleanliness neglect, and an inability of the staff to be able to make decisions without consulting with the absent leadership.

I hope the reviews will be seen by the long-time patrons as a warning that the legacy of OPH is not alive and well, and that the new management will be open to the growing voices of their community that are asking for a better experience.

On this day, no spoons and had to wait for a fork? Used a straw to stir my coffee. Food presentation was not good. Asked them to take back. Cheyenne the General Manager was VERY RUDE. Unprofessional and just overall unhappy with life as she presented. She walked away from me as I was speaking. Honestly kept my composure because my kid was with me. Cheyenne states you still have to pay for the food even if you don’t like it. ( the food I asked them to remake never came back out) I paid 31.56 for a meal I never ate. What bothers me the most is the way Cheyenne the GM handed the situation but then again maybe my expectation was too high? I’m just confused on why she presented the way she did. Manger John was not present at the time. I did tip my waiter Andrea as she had nothing to do with lack of silver ware and the cooks. Cheyenne, this not the arena for you. Maybe work from home because she is not a people person. Picture presents what I left on the table.

All we wanted was a nice breakfast to start our day. One would think a place called Original Pancake House-South Park could accomplish that. Well, you’d be WRONG!! I joined the “wait list” online at 9:56 am and it told me our wait time would be 15-20 minutes. This was perfect because the hotel was just 4 minutes away. When we arrived and checked in our wait time jumped to 30 to 40 minutes! Why bother to join online if it’s not going to remain consistent? Ok, we’re here, so we’ll wait.

Our table was finally called at 10:38 am. That’s 42 minutes after I joined the wait list. I’m sorry but that is just unacceptable. The four of us are seated and place our orders at 10:48 am. Within the next hour the following transpired: our drinks came and the wait for our meals begins. Finally, things begin arriving. Party 1 received eggs and crispy bacon but no waffle. First part of order had been delayed coming out because the cook didn’t get the bacon “crispy” as customer requested and our server advocated for it to be corrected. When the waffle finally arrives about 10 minutes later its COLD! Butter wouldn’t melt on it. Party 2 received pancakes and floppy bacon as ordered. Party 3 received pancakes but no crispy bacon in sight. Party 4 received breakfast potatoes. Nothing else for an extended time. The first 3 waited to begin eating out of courtesy for the 4th. After about 10 minutes Party 4 insisted we start – surely the missing food would come soon. All this time our server checks with us and then goes to check the line to see where our food is and why things are taking so long. She did everything she could except cook it herself. Meantime a manager, John, wanders the dining room never once stopping to speak to customers. By now the cold waffle has never been replaced with a hot one, an order of bacon has never been delivered, and one person’s main meal is apparently still in the hen and the hog because those eggs and bacon are not on our table! To add insult to injury a party of 7 were seated next to us about 15-20 minutes after we ordered our meals. The entire table received their orders in quick time and apparently with no issues meanwhile here we sit – incomplete orders almost 1 hour after ordering.

We asked to speak to a manager. John, a regional manager, came to the table. We calmly told him our issues and to be honest he seemed totally unconcerned. He never expressed an apology, nor did he give any explanation for the breakdown of receiving our food. Just “I’ll check.” Party 4 finally received the main order, and the missing bacon had been delivered by John when he came to hear our complaints. Finally, everyone in our party got to eat and then we waited at least 10 minutes for the bill. According to what we were told “John” was trying to figure out the bill. What a joke.

Throughout this entire ordeal our server did the best she could and is totally blameless. However, as we were leaving, we find out the manager made every attempt to shift blame onto the server instead of where it rightly should have been focused – on the cook line and on poor management. Our server told us she had quit. This young lady is a good waitress and deserves better treatment by her supervisors.

We finally left this place at 12:10 pm two hours and fourteen minutes after our ordeal started. Oh, and by the way, the food was mediocre.

My family and I love the original pancake house. Today we visited the South Park Charlotte location we have been in love with their pancakes for years. They were some of the best in the breakfast business. We’ve visited the Alpharetta location, Columbia location, and both locations in Charlotte before. We have not been here in a while due to living further away. Today our waitresses were very friendly and informed us of many of the changes as we began to order. Apparently there is new management or ownership and I’m not sure if that is nationwide or just the two locations in Charlotte. Unfortunately, we left very disappointed. The pancakes don’t taste the same. They were thinner, crispy with no fluff to them. They no longer had the original pancake house unique taste. The potatoes had changed to hashbrowns with no flavor. You now have to pay for every additional ingredient when before the potatoes were cooked with onions and peppers. They literally put a skinny worm like sliver of whip cream on the two hot chocolates we ordered just to charge us 2 dollars for a small bowl of whip cream when we requested more. It feels criminal when quality isn’t up to par on the original item and then you charge more to add what’s already missing. You could not even see the whip cream. My mom’s order was the last straw for me. I never get omelettes at this restaurant but today my mom ordered an omelette. It was explained to us after mom expressed she didn’t like it that their omelettes are French style. The manager pointed out it says French style on the menu and it has been that way for years. But my mom ordered a omelette, not looking at the menu and asked if it was possible to do an egg white omelette the waitress says yes and explain how to add accoutrements to it, but did not point out it wasn’t a traditional omelette. She did not like the dish and didn’t even eat it and they refuse to take it off the ticket. Everyone on the staff was pleasant but I could tell the manager was ready to be unyielding. I understand having to keep the rules across the board but their new policy to not take things off the ticket does not include replacing an item a guest doesn’t like. It was explained that if they fixed it correctly and as the menu states they would not take it off the menu. I don’t see the problem with that policy, but if you visually see the person hasn’t eaten the dish it is customer service to offer something in the place of it. I do understand a business is trying to stay afloat while everything is increasing in price, but these practices lacks serving your customers well. All the changes brought the quality down with no care for customer. We will never be back to this restaurant we still tipped well. We were pleasant, but expressed our feedback but to nickel and dime the customers on each item and then have no flexibility when there was a lack of communication on an item, and even if there wasn’t a lack of communication if a person does not eat the item there should be something done. It is up to the business to decide but something should be done. We understand people, abuse policies and abuse grace, but we should not head in a direction where there is no room for customer service I hope not all the locations are like this. I will not be back to either Charlotte location, but I will ask more questions at the next original pancake house if we decide to try a different location or just choose a new breakfast place. This is truly disappointing.

I waited 30 minutes for my food to come out. Several people seated after me got their food before me. I called a manager and see what’s going on. She said the wait time on my ticket is 22 minutes and it should be out shortly. When it came out, this is what it looked like. Ain’t no way I’m going to eat that. And then she threaten me to call the police because I told her I wasn’t gonna for what I didn’t eat. This supposed to be a chicken egg white omelette. Would you eat that ?
So she called the police because I told her it didn’t look right and I’m not going to eat it. All wet in the inside. Police came and told her., I’m not wrong because of it. The other police officer came and asked me was that a shepherds pie, he couldn’t believe that they try to serve me this. So now I gotta go to court on January 14.. everybody sitting around me, saw the omelette and said they would not eat that ‍♂️
I moved to Charlotte Dec. 6, started my job Dec 8 and on Dec 14 that morning, this lady tried me. She wasn’t just the manager. She was the GM , police told her and try to convince her not to and that it was a bad decision that she made bad customer service.
I’ll see them in court.

The food here is so comforting and good. I liked the hot chocolate a lot, and the service here is so nice. The place is crowded, like if you go on a Saturday or Sunday morning there will be a wait time.

Came here to get breakfast for lunch. To say that this place is mediocre would be generous.

I waited 45 minutes after being told 15 to 30, and then another 10 minutes before a server came to my table. That’s 55 minutes from the time I walked in the door to win I saw a server.

The food on the menu was standard breakfast fare, priced very reasonably. The waitress took my order and the only time I saw her after that was to ask for a refill of my drink, and for her to take my credit card. I don’t know if this was because they don’t have enough servers, but I really didn’t feel she was very attentive.

As to the food nothing was cooked to order. The pancakes were just a notch above cold, whipped butter on top wouldn’t even melt. Flavor was okay. I had scrambled eggs and sausage both of which were not even lukewarm, like what they were just scooped out of a pan after being precooked. The grits were the best part, but don’t get too excited, they were mediocre at best.

Overall a very disappointing experience for a place that is so highly rated.
