My wife and I decided to try this new restaurant in San Dimas called Origin Mexican Cuisine. I was expecting it to be remodeled, however it really was not much different than when the Thai restaurant was there, or B&J’s restaurant before it. It is not their fault that they have such a small parking lot, but it can only accommodate about 10 cars and really there’s no other place to park unless you go to 1st street where the undercover Sheriff’s Department is, or park by the Walker house.
The initial service was good, but the restaurant was incredibly quiet and not very festive. We received the menus, and comparative to the other Mexican restaurants in our area, it seemed a little pricey–we decided to try it anyway.
My wife ordered sopes: chicken, birria, and carne asada. I ordered a chile relleno a la carte. There was no price for my a la carte item, or a price for any of their beverages. They had no beer on draft, which is strange because restaurants make more money from that, then they do the bottled beer. We finished our chips, but it was a while before the camarera came around and offered more chips. The salsa is very flavorful, but not spicy at all.
When the food came, my wife said the sopes were good, but the masa was too hard. She ate the carne asada, birria, and chicken but not the actual sope. My chili relleno looked good, but when I cut into it, it was cool on the inside, the cheese was not melted and the chili was cool. it seemed that it had been sitting in the back probably waiting for them to finish my wife’s sopes. I ordered one bottle of beer but that was it.
I really hope this restaurant changes its level of food service. I am afraid however, if it does not, it is not going to make it with the San Dimas clientele. When I was in there, the other people did not feel like the San Dimas clientele–more like a place that I would find on Town Ave. or Holt in Pomona.
When you have Mexican restaurants like Casa del Rey, or Las Palmas in the area, a business must really step it up to compete with them. I wish them the best. They told us they were going to have a grand opening with Mariachi music which again probably would be good for a different area.
The only thing I can think of is these reviews are from friends or they do not know what authentic Mexican food tastes like.

I overheard that there’s a new Mexican restaurant in San Dimas, and I was shocked! I’ve been living here for 27 years, and Casa del Rey has been the only other “Mexican restaurant” in town which, honestly, is not good and very bland. San Dimas has never really been big on authentic Mexican cuisine, and Casa del Rey is very Americanized, which doesn’t compare to traditional Mexican dishes.
I decided to give this new spot a chance and had high hopes. I took my grandma, who lives in a small pueblo near Guadalajara, and she thoroughly enjoyed it! The flavor profile was amazing.
I truly hope more people come and try it out! My grandma ordered the flautas, and I had the chilaquiles. Both the presentation and flavor were excellent!

Buenas tardes, I came into Origen after countless posts on Facebook hyping this place. I arrived on a Sunday at 12:30 and was automatically greeted with a smile, the place seemed a bit empty for the time but had a constant influx of people. The menu is on the smaller size but has many of the Mexican favorites. I believe that you can tell a lot about a place by looking at the small details, place is very clean, the chips are perfectly salted and the salsa is very tasty. I must say the staff os super friendly and very attentive. I wanted to try a variety of food so I ordered the Sope Platter and the Mole De pollo. The meat on the sopes was very tasty, the chicken, asada, and chorizo were all juicy and full of flavor. If you prefer the sweeter, chocolatier mole, this will be a good one to taste, I prefer the spicy one but this was good in my opinion. On my way out, I heard a customer ask if they had menudo (was not on the menu) and she was told yes. I will definitely try this place out again and will try the menudo.

Great new restaurant in San Dimas! The birria tacos were flavorful, carne asada steak was tender, and tortillas were very fresh. You can ask for homemade tortillas too. Horchata was perfectly prepared. You can tell a lot of pride went into the recipes and ingredients. Our server was Alicia. Very knowledgeable, attentive and helpful. This place is where great service and great food come together.

My wife and I came here for the first time the other night and we really enjoyed the experience. The staff was very friendly, attentive, and helpful. The food was fresh, tasty, and prepared quickly. We tried a variety of drinks, one appetizer, and three different entrées. All were well cooked and it was nice sitting in a clean/newlyn opened restaurant. We’ll be back for more.

This place is DELICIOUS! Second visit since they opened. The service is phenomenal and they are so unbelievably friendly and attentive. You can get a spicier salsa aside from the one they bring with the chips. Guacamole is a must order appetizer. Potato tacos and the shredded beef taquitos are incredible. We will absolutely be coming back again. Thank you!!!

I enjoyed my pick up order it was cooked well and since a said no cheese they suggested an alternative to the plate it was so kind of them to do so. I liked everything so much. The carne asada tampiquena with a potatoe taco instead of cheese enchilada. The chips and salsa were great too. Thanks for a terrific first experience!
