Reviews
(Drive-thru available, but we dined inside)
Origami in Morganton is one of those places you drive past a few times, get curious about, and finally decide to give a try — and I’m glad we did. They do have a drive-thru, which is super convenient, but we decided to dine in so we could really see what the place was about.
Inside & Ordering
When you walk in, you order right at the counter before taking a seat. They offer both table and booth seating, and the crowd size is very “medium”—steady but not overwhelming. It’s a relaxed, casual setup.
I was dining with my child, and while they don’t have a designated kids’ menu, you can piece together a kid-friendly meal from the side orders. That part did get a little confusing. Ordering for two adults was simple, but for our little boy we had to order everything separately:
a side of rice
a side of chicken
and if he wanted a vegetable (like broccoli), that would’ve been an additional side as well
We added teriyaki seasoning, which he loved, but I do recommend checking one of their smaller menus at the counter — they seem to explain the items better than the big board.
Food & Portions
Let me say this: the portions are generous!
Sushi: We tried three rolls. The Origami Roll is deep fried — not usually my first choice since I don’t prefer fried sushi — but it was still tasty. The other two rolls we ordered were fantastic! I wish I remembered the names, but I included pictures because they deserve recognition.
Ramen: The Ramen bowl is huge. The noodles are thick, the broth flavorful, and honestly it’s big enough to share if you want to try multiple items like sushi alongside it.
Rice: One thing that stood out — the rice here is very different from any I’ve had at a Japanese restaurant. It gave me more of a “minute rice” vibe. I’m not knocking it, just noting the difference. It’s not bad, just unexpected.
Service
The staff are genuinely friendly. You can tell they are working hard to get this business off the ground. They were kind, patient, and doing their best, so please return the favor — a little patience goes a long way for a new restaurant.
Overall Thoughts
I’d honestly give this place 6 stars on potential alone. We enjoyed the food, the portions were great, and the sushi pleasantly surprised me. I definitely want to come back later to see how things evolve as they grow.
Expect about $10 per plate, plus more if you’re adding sushi rolls or specials.
We’re glad we stopped by — and I’ll be watching to see how Origami continues to blossom. Worth trying for sure!
The ramen was perfect, i love the stir fried noodles the most, the sushi was fresh, and addictive, and honestly I’m still thinking about it while writing this review. If I lived closer, I’d probably be here every week to enjoy their food.
Every time I’m in Morganton, I’m 100% coming back. This spot is officially on my ‘must-eat or I’ll be sad’ list. Highly recommend!
Bonus: As a Deaf consumer, they provided closed captions on their television, thank you!
Wait time was about 15-20 minutes per car.
There were about half a dozen cars in the drive through so It took just over an hour between pulling up to when I got handed my food.
I do recommend this place and I will go again when they are not as busy or dine-in to try other things on the menu.
Here are my personal ratings for each thing I’ve tried so far.
Shrimp Teriyaki – 9.0
Pretty good.
Shrimp sauce – 9.5
Really good. Comes in 4oz, I should have asked for an extra because I use a lot of shrimp sauce.
Onion Soup – 6.5
Too salty, I can tell the flavor is really good if the salty flavor wasn’t as strong.
Spring rolls – 7.5
Didn’t enjoy the deli meat flavor.
Sweet Tea – 8.5
Some of the best tea i’ve had from an asian fast-food drive thru. I got the regular 16oz but it also comes in large. Should have asked for a large tea because I finished my tea before I was done eating.
Pricing was pretty parallel to other asian drive-thru places. I understand they just opened so I didn’t mind the long wait time in the drive thru. Food was worth it. Staff were polite.
Time to try the ramen and sushi next! It will be nice to finally have a ramen place in Morganton!
were incredibly amazing!!
p.s a pic of how famous they are around here these past couple days!!

I got my food today to go. The sushi taste very fresh I had a Philly Roll. It was really good one of the best I’ve had of that style roll. I also got a Teriyaki Chicken Rice plate. The platter is very good the chicken is cooked just right. I do recommend more people going I plan to return to try the ramen next.
