Social Profile:

An icon etched into the cultural memory of the capital, Orient Express at Taj Palace, New Delhi is not merely a restaurant, but a reverie in motion. Step into a meticulously crafted dining carriage where time slows, silver gleams softly under warm light, and the romance of Europe’s golden age of travel unfolds with quiet grandeur. Mahogany walls, Lalique accents, crisp white linens and crystal goblets echo an era when journeys were ceremonial and dining was an art form. Here, classical French and European gastronomy is rendered with precision and restraint, each course a tribute to legacy, technique and indulgence, seamlessly paired with a distinguished cellar of vintage wines.

Upmarket European cuisine served in a classy dining room modeled after the Orient Express train.

The restaurant is beautifully done up and authentic all but the background music. Hence the atmosphere gets 4 stars. The service was excellent. No snobbish waiters turning their nose up on a faux pas. That brings us to the food. I was eating French food after a long time but there was no dish that sent me back to the time I was in France. Neither did any memories come back from eating the food. We had a great dinner great company great memories but for what I went for which was to experience a slice of Paris I was deeply disappointed.

My family had dinner here while staying at the hotel. It’s a very interesting concept to replicate the dining car of the Orient Express. The food and service were as good as any fine dining restaurant I’ve ever been to. My only negative comment is that at $120 per person it was expensive for what it was and three times more expensive than any other fine dining restaurant we ate at in India.

If you ever wish to get an almost real life feel of being in the luxury train ride without the movement nor having to go and take it, you could well be on the next Oriental Express Culinary journey which would blow your mind

Having stayed at the Taj Palace, we were exploring the restaurants and found tucked innocuously away, the Oriental Express which celebrated its 40th year of being a part of the Delhi Food Station

It was supposed to be just an evening of light dinner with soup as our main course which my wife resorted to but having taken a look at the menu, I just couldn’t bring myself from taking on their four course meal. Now some may say, that was of greedy me, but I decided YOLT much to the amazement of my better half who was certain I would not go through the entire proceedings

I did not. She took over the dessert and of course tasted the portions to be able to help me give a fair view. Thanks to her, you get to know both sides of the gender

We started with a tasteful avocado, celeriac and Truffle Amise bouche, a lite bite sized hors doeuvres compliments of the chef which couldn’t have been a better start to the evening setting off the expectations. Avocado is a butter fruit and it’s buttery feel could be felt against the backdrop of the celeriac and truffle

Wanting to try the Consommé, which is a light clear soup, over Dutch Asparagus, we tasted the Duck Agnolotti which was a filing between the folded duck meat centre plating in the soup bowl. Tasteful to the eye and to the palate

Though wanting to taste the Veg part, I had to give the baby artichoke, purple potato and truffle vinaigrette a miss as the almost veg Camembert Cheese Soufflé with Paprika sauce beckoned a tasting touted as their signature dish. Flavourful and distinctly cheesy, the baked soufflé is a Not to be missed part of their menu

In fact this is very wholesome on its own, and a soup with the soufflé could well be on the cards of those not ambitious to try out the entire selection. This Entrees is definitely one of the best I have had and strongly recommended. This is the main course of the dish but is followed up by the plat principal

We were offered the Lemon sorbet as a palate cleanser and the flavour did exactly that.

I decided to go with fish for the Plat Principal and the Sea bass on offer seemed to be a good bet over the Lamb or Linguini. I was not returned disappointed. Tasteful and soft, melting in the mouth. Mmmm

The final course was the dessert and we opted for the Biscoff cheese cake and I had a helping of blueberries as I am off sweets. It was indeed a happy ending

What made the evening delightful was the service by Vinod and his merry men including Chef Jason who made the train ride memorable while Lawrence on the piano regaled the memories of old time tunes perfectly played to seem like the melodies that one sees on a movie which has the very lively / lively train scenes, holding nostalgia and art together

Vinod incidentally hold pride of place both on the menu and on the poster announcing the four decades – he and Lawrence being old timers and their association being the very reason why such train rides never go out of fashion

Orient Express in Delhi was a dream! Amazing food and atmosphere, but the staff, especially Suhal and Vinod, made it truly exceptional. Highly recommend!

This was the dining highlight of our recent visit to India. Excellent service in a unique setting, with truly wonderful food. We were treated like royalty throughout by the lovely and personable staff who contributed to a magical evening. And a mention to the lovely Ukrainian singer in the bar area who indulged some of our special song requests!

My family and I stayed at the Taj Palace hotel in New Dehli for a wedding this past December. While staying there, we decided to stop by the Orient Express for a nice dinner. We decided to go with the a la carte options. They started out meal with a yogurt and patte spread to go with their bread service. For appetizers and soups, we got the lobster bisque and roasted duck. For dinner we got the rack of lamb, and pasta.

Service at this restaurant is fantastic. Waiters are knowledgeable, accommodating and friendly.

If I ever go back to Dehli I would come back to this restaurant.

10/10 Would recommend!

The Taj hotel in Dehli is just amazing but this restaurant in the hotel takes it to a whole other level. The decor is inspired by the train of the same name, and wood, glass and brass abound. The menu is a good selection of European cuisine very, very well executed and presented. The service is exceptional, attentive but not intrusive – a balance many restaurants fail to understand. All in, probably one of the best meals I have had, anywhere in the world. High recommended!!!

I wanted to visit this restaurant for a long time. The concept of a restaurant shaped like the famous Orient Express is something that intrigued me. To say I wasn’t disappointed is an understatement. I was overwhelmed by the ambience of the place.
Built along the lines of the fabulous train made even more famous by the novel by Agatha Christie and consequent movie of the same name, this restaurant is another jewel in the crown of the Taj group.
Attention to detail, unobstusive service, a choice of delectable wines, a sumptuous array of continental cuisine and live music made it an experience to remember.

Cute place. Clearly they spend a lot of money on decor and sitting in a replica of the Orient Express does not feel cheesy. The food was good, service could be faster but overall we had a great experience.
