We ordered the thin crust Numero Uno pizza (the house specialty), and it was fantastic. There was a small mistake, the sausage was accidentally left off and honestly, I didn’t even notice. Our waiter caught it himself and immediately brought out a fresh one. What really impressed us was that instead of taking the original pizza away (which most restaurants would do), they let us keep both. Totally unexpected and very much appreciated.
They were more than accommodating and went above and beyond to make sure our first visit was perfect. We will absolutely be back. Highly recommend!
*Service: The hostess who sat us was very friendly and personable. Our server was Lily and wow, what an incredibly genuine, naturally caring, attentive, sincere server. She checked in on us regularly, but not overwhelmingly, kept reassuring us there was no rush and encouraged us to relax, take our time, and have fun. She was fantastic, could not have asked for more.
*Food: The food was very good overall. And the $5 draught happy hour beers were perfect as they were served in frozen glasses that break off thin slabs of ice inside the glass as you drink, ice cold, refreshing, delicious. We started with fried calamari and loved that it was cut in thick strips rather than small rings. The larger pieces gave a nice mouth feel and fuller taste than just little rings of deep fried batter. The marinara dipping sauce was alright, pretty bland and uninspired but did the job. My chicken parm was very good. The two large, thick, moist and juicy fried chicken pieces were very good, and covered in a yummy thick layer of cheese. The linguini was cooked al dente which was good. This was no homemade pasta, but it was good and heavy and lightly chewy. The marina sauce was pretty basic, pretty sure it was the same as what came with the calamari. One buddy got things and they looked delicious, big and meaty and saucy with a side of homemade chips. The Alfredo The Dark pasta was excellent. Chewy spiral pasta with lightly spicy poblano cream sauce, yummm!
*Ambiance: this is a very comfortable place, it was surprisingly busy/packed for a Thursday night. It would be easy to hang out here for a few hours, which we did, because while it gets busy, it feels comfortable, almost like being at home with a bunch of people over, not overly packed in, tables spaced just far enough apart to give a little privacy, but still feel like you’re part of the experience. By the time we left, every table was taken, and there was a short wait, that typically says good things about a restaurant.
*Value: though not tons of happy hour offerings, the one’s they have are good, mostly drinks and three food items. The menu has far more offerings than they used to, which is really nice. Prices are pretty reasonable for the size of the dishes. They are hefty, I love a place that serves big quantities.
*Overall: this was my favorite experience at Oregano’s since I’ve been going there for probably 25 years. The others were not bad, they just weren’t remarkable. I had never been to this location before. If they’re all like this now, I’ll definitely go back and definitely recommend it. I was stuffed and didn’t get the Pizookie (pizza cookie), I remember LOVING it!
Our waitress was outstanding and went above and beyond to help us during our first trip here.
The ambience was so inviting with its classic decor and music. Felt right at home.
The Alfredo the Dark is very interesting and worth a try if you like spicy food. The chicken parm was simple and delicious. We tried multiple dishes because we were excited to sample things, and we didn’t mind bringing home leftovers. Little did we know that we could have split and one of the dishes we got since the portions were so huge. Plenty of food for the price.
The Chicago pan pizza was just okay, though. Sorry! Not sure if we ordered it wrong, but I wasn’t a fan of the dough/crust. Worth a try either way.
If you’re looking for a spot that nails the “neighborhood hangout” vibe, the Oregano’s on Superstition Blvd is a winner. Here’s why it’s a local favorite:
The Food: Their Chicago-style thin crust is consistently crispy, and you can’t leave without a Pizookie. It’s practically a rite of passage.
The Atmosphere: The patio is fantastic for a relaxed dinner, and the interior has that quirky, nostalgic charm Oregano’s is known for.
The Service: Despite being a busy hub, the staff is usually upbeat and keeps the refills coming.
It’s the perfect mix of high-energy and comfort food—just make sure to get there early or use their online waitlist, as it fills up fast!
