I recently visited this cafe and found it to be a pleasant experience overall.
The location is quite convenient, making it an easy spot to meet up with friends or enjoy a quiet moment alone.
The cafe offers a unique combination of a bakery and a pub, which adds to its charm and provides a variety of options for different tastes.
The prices are reasonable, which is always a plus, especially when you’re looking to enjoy a meal or a drink without breaking the bank. The atmosphere is inviting and conducive to good conversation, making it an ideal place to catch up with someone.

Saturday evening. Opera House was our Plan D – retrospectively, it should have been Plan B, maybe even plan A. After walking around River Market looking for a pre-dinner drink, multiple other places with nearly 1 hour waits, we came across Opera House.
I have been here for breakfast on bustling weekend days where this area is congested with eager farmer’s market shoppers. Coffee lines are long. Food is reminiscent of diner food – it’s expected, no signs promising more than that.
Prior to tonight, I haven’t utilized the bar. When other places had hour waits, the Opera House bar welcomed us. Fair prices. Attentive service. A full bar. Quiet crowd, no yelling over each other. Ample seating around. An eclectic setting.
Really couldn’t ask for more.

The coffee was delicious. However, the restaurant wasn’t busy at all on Sunday morning, yet it still took 45 minutes to prepare a simple chorizo sandwich and potatoes dish. Unfortunately, that kind of wait time doesn’t justify the $15-20 price tag.

I’ve walked by this place for 15 years and always thought it was just a tiny corner spot. I went in today with a friend who recommended it bc she loves it and it is HUGE inside! Multiple levels with loads of diff seating, a unique vibe for KC and I love it. The menu for food and drinks were massive (it was a bit overwhelming bc they had everything and I wanted it all: smoothies, teas, shakes, cocktails etc). It’s in the perfect spot with street parking right outside and just across the street from thr main hub of Rivermarket! I’ll def be back here to hang out and it seems like it would have a great night time vibe too!

I have walked by this coffee shop for any years and finally walked in and this is what I experienced.
Upon entering the shop my wife and I noticed all of the decorations and “antiques” hanging for the walls and ceilings. The amount of dust buildup on these items was making me wonder how much of this stuff is just floating in the air and getting into the drinks.
The girl at the front desk was off-putting and made my wife and I feel like maybe we should go somewhere else. addressing consumers in an appropriate was is crucial. We took into account that she may have been having a bad day, however there were several other employees in the shop who also lacked the ability to smile. I also know that this is a common Kansas City swag. Nevertheless it made our visit less enjoyable.
We did not sit down and got our chai tea lattes to go so I can not give you much detail on the seating.
The drinks that we ordered were terrible. We ordered Chai tea lattes and they were syrupy and think. The flavors were off and the drinks were way to thick to drink. We discarded the lattes as they were making up sick.
I will absolutely not be visiting this coffee shop again.

They have a coffee shop right up front, if you wind towards the back they have a bar along the way, in the back there is a breakfast and sandwich place, with a bakery in the very back corner.
It is like an eclectic indoor food court with two levels. A small front area for coffee, and a few steps down to the rest.
The hazelnut coffee was tasty, definitely on the sweet side, but with plenty of flavor.
Depending on what you are looking for, an interesting little spot to check out.

Ordered the eggs benedict, as you can see in the photos it came out with very little hollandaise sauce and my eggs were way over cooked. Taste wise it was okay at best. The bloody Mary was good so I guess thats good.

The Turkey Bacon Club panini was really good!
The jalapeño poppers didn’t have any cream cheese in them.
The Italian panini was delicious too.

Stopped into the opera house for sunday breakfast.
There is no sign, or host area or anyone really to explain their concept so this was a bad start to the atmosphere. It was chaotic confusion. But much like an english or french markey. On the left you have your coffee,tea, milkshake and smoothy counter. There are no servers so you cant sit down and order from the menu. You have to go up to each area and pay seperatly at each counter.
I started my adventure with 2 of their signature expresso. The crazy on you which is made with both caramel sauce and caramel syrup this was right up my alley. And I give it a 9.5 out of 10.
Next was the cinnamon Girl, classic expresso with honey and cinnamon. It was refreshing and scored abd 8.2
After my coffee in hand I headed down to their kitchen and ordered their blueberry pancakes. House french toast, bacon bravo omelette, and biscuits and gravy.
The blueberry pancakes were a plane pancake with blueberry compote, nothing special, orginal or slamming in the taste. Give it a 1 out of 10.
Next onto their french toast a dish that is normally my go to or fav. Now the menu stated these are dipped in vanilla cinnamon batter which there was zero hits of vanilla or cinnamon in the flavor and tasted very bland. Their house syrup prepackaged. Helped me to eat down the french toast. A 2 out of 10.
Next iI tried their bacon bravo. Bacon, diced tomatoe and cheddar jack cheese ommlette. You get a side and i chose the potatoes. The taste combination was not horrible, but the size compared to 7 resteraunts in less than a mile radius horrible value for cost. Overall the omelette was a 6 out of 10. The potatoes were tastey seasoned well and scored a 7 out of 10. I def dont recomend getting one if their omlettes the size alone makes it not worth it.
Finally from their kitchen I ordered a half order of their biscuits and gravy. Now this was a good value and the saving grace from the kitchen a 10 out of 10. And 100% the best biscuits and gravy that ive tasted in all of kansas city metro. House maxr buttermilk biscuits that absolutly slaps, no cap.
For dessert I headed over to their bakery area and ordered the salted caramel twixt, and the opera torte.
The twixt has overpowered by choclate fudge. Not what i was expecting with that name. For a choclate lover an easy favorite but for me 100% no thanks. A 2 out of 10.
Their opera torte had many layers of light choclate with the fudge from the above item shaped like a squirl on top. But easily able to remove. The torte itself was amazing and i will be back to order it again. A 8.5 out of 10. This could have been a 10 and it may be for you as i just didnt like their fudge and after the twixt experience i didnt want to chance the flavor combination.
They do have a candy and popcorn area with hard icecream and macaroons. But i didnt try anything from that area. And they have a stocked bar. With some signature infusions. For me I sat and tried coldbrew Mai Tai.
A new addition to there cocktail menu. It has a fantastic flavor combination and hit hard for an 8.
Overall the customer service was a 10 out of 10, the food even though some 10’s lots of low ranking items. A 6.5 out of 10. And the atmosphere was all over the place and confusing for someone walking in for the first time. A 5 out of 10. Pics and videos posted for a visual.
