Amazing Chinese oriental cuisine in Manchester!

I absolutely loved their siu mai pork and shrimp dumplings—so juicy, flavorful, and perfectly made. You can really taste the quality in every bite. The restaurant also has great Chinese vibes, from the décor to the atmosphere, which makes the whole dining experience feel authentic and cozy. Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to again and again. Highly recommend! ✨

We found this place while searching for the top Chinese restaurants in Manchester, and it did not disappoint. It made me feel like having a reasonable dim sum in Hong Kong. Our order is rice with mixed meat (Roasted Duck, Crispy Pork, Barbecue Pork), which is yummy, especially when dipped in the sauce. Chun Mai is tasty and a great seasoning. Dumplings and steamed noodles are just moderate.

Staff are friendly and speak English well. The price is reasonable for the location and food.

It can take a while in a queue if you come during a busy time like lunchtime, but it’s worth it.

Been coming to this place every time I visited Manchester and never get disappointed. The dishes and dim sum served were traditional and authentic. Well worth trying if you are craving for some comforting Cantonese food. The free soup before dinner and the free dessert afterward are definitely a perk.

Didn’t have a great experience here. The lady seemed very rushed while taking my order. I asked for half roasted duck (£21) but was later told only a quarter was available (after serving: mostly skin, not much meat), so it was replaced with char siu. I then realised I’d been charged £28 for a full mixed meat dish instead.
Pork and peanut dim sum wasn’t really great, chow mein was average – though the chicken feet were nice. Portion sizes were generous but that didn’t really make up for everything else. Overall, a bit of a disappointing visit – maybe just bad timing on my part

Second time here the food is really nice would say it’s one of the best Cantonese restaurants in Manchester. Staff are friendly as well. Enjoyed the roast meat Char Siu and crispy pork belly very much. Also got free soup of the day and free dessert which is really worth it. Would strongly recommend for whom is looking for Cantonese style food. Just a friendly reminder better book in advance in case it gets really busy 🙂

Crackin’ restaurant in the heart of Chinatown, Manchester there.., up around 3 flights of stairs or you can take a bit of an old looking lift, up there instead.

They have a large fish, with some smaller looking fish in a fish tank, in passing there that helps you feel relaxed, I think also, before you do eat and for me, being vegan, I was just in the mood for a plate of their salt n pepper chips really and my partner, Steven, hadn’t long eaten elsewhere, so he was full really.

I was told there was a minimum £10 spend, so ordered 2 x plates of the salt n pepper chips, thinking my partner, Steven may have helped himself to a few also, though he didn’t when the 2 plates did arrive, descent portion sizes, they had a salty taste to them definitely, with some added spices and vegetables too.

The service was great, someone in passing who worked there, if you needed any help and didn’t have to wait too long, to receive what I’d ordered too.

Nice decor throughout, but as regards the atmosphere, if it’s very busy, which is was quite busy, it was quite loud in there, hearing lots of loud noises of people talking.

On another note, I don’t know if they’d private dining, as I didn’t ask, before I left but on that very top floor, I noticed a sectioned off area, with some nicer seating in it, maybe that’s what they’d use for their version of private dining then perhaps.

I visited Only Yu restaurant two nights in a row because of the amazing food and warm service. On the first night, encouraged by the server, Lina, I ordered three kinds of dim sum — har gao, siew mai, and deep-fried custard buns (about £6 each) — along with pork and century egg porridge (£8). The har gao was so delicious that I didn’t need to dip it in any sauce. The porridge was smooth and velvety — like silk gliding down the throat — a true reflection of authentic Cantonese style. With a bottle of Budweiser (£4.50), my bill came to around £30.

The most memorable part, however, was how the manager, Simon, and Lina chatted with me at different times. They had probably noticed that I was dining alone and thought I might appreciate a bit of company, however brief.

On the second night, I went for the value three-course meal for about £20— wonton soup (with four large wontons), six crispy chicken wings and drumlets, and beef with black bean sauce served with fried rice. I was pleasantly surprised with a complimentary tong sui (sweet dessert soup) and ordered steamed custard buns as takeaway. Again, the meal came to about £30.

Both meals made me reminisce about my three years in Hong Kong — I savoured each bite with tears welling up.

I visited on 16 and 17 October 2025.

food is authentic. really close to what I have in hong Kong. and really affordable. the only thing is the staff are quite rude and rushed us to pay the bill. not a pleasant experience. if just focus on food, definitely worth it.

First of all, the restaurant is very busy and booking beforehand is recommended as there was a long queue for walk-ins. We went there for a family gathering and had dim sum. I have to admit I’m not sure why this restaurant is so popular. Food wise, it’s not good but not bad either. Some of the dim sum size are bigger than other restaurants, such as the siu mai. The atmosphere was quite loud as you expect from a crowded restaurant. Sorry that no photos of the food were taken as it didn’t excite me.

Absolutely beautiful restaurant with great atmosphere. Excellent service and amazing food! The ribs were soooooo good. They offer great specials including an early dining special from 4-6pm (16:00-18:00). Such a warm welcome from all of the staff. Definitely the best choice when you are visiting Manchester and want a wonderful experience in Chinatown!
