My fiancé had a build a bowl with bourbon chicken and kimchi rice she was sweating a little from it . Which would normally mean a pepto night but the food her is so clean no added junk that she was fine . I highly recommend giving this place a try . We will definitely be back
The Bulgogi Hoagie is a perfect example of Korean take on philly cheese steak. In my opinion, it’s an improved version.
The Dubu was super filling and packed full with plenty of carrots, mushrooms, kimchi, tofu, and beansprouts. I would’ve liked more broccoli with it because it had such a delicious roasted taste, but there was still enough to enjoy.
We had these three items split between two people and had plenty of leftovers to take back, so the food is very filling. I’ll be happy to stop by again next time I’m in Beacon!
The good
– very roomy and clean place
– wide variety of Korean Fusion dishes
– DDUK Mandu Guk dumpling soup was authentic
– nice staff
The not so great
– the bulgogi hoagie was ok, not great
– the bread was fresh, but the beef contained some nerves and tendons
– the Tonkotsu Ramen was also ok, not great
– the broth which is supposed to be rich pork broth tasted very much like packaged chicken stock
– the Ramen was the weakest of the bunch
My wife who happens to be Korean and I agree.
This Korean Fusion restaurant is ok for Beacon, but it doesn’t compare to authentic K restaurants in NYC.
To be fair, this place doesn’t claim to be as good as Korean restaurants in NYC, for where and what it is, its s solid experience.
CHICKEN KATSU FINGERS with FRIES: They were OK. The chicken was not seasoned nor marinated prior to frying (if it was, I didn’t taste it); nor did the chicken come with sauce (although the menu says it comes with a spicy aioli)…so the taste was plain fried chicken. The texture of the katsu/panko coating was perfect. The fries were pretty good and the spicy ketchup complemented them very well.
BUILD-A-BOWL – I chose Bourbon Chicken with Brown Rice, and Charred Broccoli, Roasted Carrots, Cucumber Kimchi, and Seasoned Bean Sprouts: The chicken was more like blackened chicken and lacked (bourbon) sauce, which made it seem dry while eating with the rice. The rice was done like sticky rice but missed the mark. It was a little overcooked which caused it to be a little mushy. The vegetables/sides were pretty good. Broccoli and carrots were done well – I felt the carrots would have been better if cut diagonal and not cubed (small). I didn’t really taste the seasoning in the sprouts, but they were OK. The cucumber kimchi was GREAT…never had that before.
FOUR SIDE seemed like a little too much. I would rather them go with two larger sides and add more protein/chicken.
This is just one opinion – mine – and, while it may not seem like a glowing endorsement, I will return and give them another try. Starting a business is tough, making food that everyone will enjoy is tougher, saying “I will not go there again” after one try is unfair. I wish them the best as they continue business in Beacon.
