They lost 1 star on atmosphere because I kept burning myself on the heater.

They lost one star on food because the brocolini was difficult to chew.

Or server was amazing and definitely earned her tip. She made us feel welcomed, and navigated a very difficult food allergy with grace.

Their gnocchi was excellent, and so was the fennel salad.

Best pork tenderloin I’ve ever eaten. So tender, juicy, and flavorful, it almost tasted like a steak. The duck ragu and roasted romanesco were also very good. We were particularly impressed by the apple ricotta doughnut hole dessert. The combination of the creamy ricotta, crispy doughnuts, and fragrant mint leaves were surprising, creative, and playful. It’s nice that they include where the vegetables were sourced from on the menu. We can definitely taste the freshness and quality of the ingredients. The people were nice, friendly, and attentive.

We stopped by Ondis for an early dinner during our road trip. The servers greeted us with warmth and very welcoming attitude. The food was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! I had shrimp ceviche tacos and my mom had the Halibut. Rich flavor profile, great taste and fantastic combination of freshness!
We usually don’t get dessert after dinner, but we wanted to make an exception and give the dessert a try since we enjoyed the food so much. Definitely a great decision we made! I had homemade pistachio ice cream and mom had vanilla. We LOVED it!
I would love to see if I could get that ice cream in our cities too!!! Can you franchise that pleaseeee? 🙂
Montpelier is not a common route for us, but I will make sure to come back to Ondis to have more of that taste!

We were on vacation in Vermont and this restaurant was recommended by a local bartender. We walked in and were seated right away at a high top table. I recently suffered a stoke so I had difficulty sitting at the high top table which caused nerve pain down my leg. I asked to sit at an open low top table but they were unable to accommodate me because they claimed the tables were for reservations.

We had already ordered our food and drinks so I tried to make the best of this situation. However I was not able to stand for our entire meal. Therefore I canceled our order and paid for what we had eaten. We had two rolls and two glasses of wine which cost us $47 with the tip. The rolls were delicious and I am sure that the rest of the meal would have been delicious too.

We left disappointed and as we walked out we could see that the low top tables denied to us were still empty.

If you give this restaurant a try I hope you have better luck. I can’t rate them any lower because the food we had and the atmosphere were great, but the wait staff appeared to be a bit pretentious for what the restaurant is supposed to be about.

Review to follow, I just typed an extensive review and one missed keystroke inexplicably deleted it. Damnit google. But until i decide to retype it, food meet high expectations, as did the staff. Great team, great food, and great drinks. Who cares about an oxford comma, I do.

Ondis is small and intimate, nestled among a residential area well outside downtown Montpelier. The plates are also small and intimate, though creative and flavorful. Highlights were the shaved avocado salad which was bursting with the flavors of spring, and the prime rib seared to perfection hiding under light, whipped potatoes and on top of an amazing sort of demi glace sauce.

I will say not every dish hit, and the drinks were decent + creative but didn’t blow me away (Rye milk punch pictured). The spring gnocchi was visually stunning but a bit flat in flavor, and a *lot* of the dishes use some form of foam, cream, puree, or whipped mousse – my partner found this texture unappealing at times without something solid to ground it.

That said, the service was super attentive and jovial, and the ice cream here is incredible (get a pint of vanilla to go!).

I’ve dined here 3 or 4 times over the past year, and it’s hands down the best restaurant in Montpelier—possibly one of the best in Vermont. The food is fresh, creative, and consistently delicious, clearly made by people who care about their work and what they are putting out. The wine list is small but thoughtful, with a well-curated selection of moderately priced natural wines from across Europe that punches well above its weight. Each time I’ve gone, the menu has always been completely different. It’s great to have a spot in Montpelier that offers this level of variety and quality. Highly recommended for a date or special night out.
