On my visit I had some really good food and some food that was just ok. Nothing was bad but since only one of three dishes was really good I don’t think I will return. We went for their ‘social hour’ (aka happy hour) and they had half off oysters and and discounted wine. The oysters were delicious but they were on the expensive end for oysters, before being half off. The wine deals were good. We had a trotter cake that was a special for the night and it was bland, the greens it was on had more flavor. Also had the crispy pork belly on beans. The pork belly was crispy and tasty but the beans were also a bit bland. The hard clams and polenta was the best dish and very good. For dessert we had bread pudding that was good and a basque tart that was pretty good.

Oysters were fresh and amazing. Prices are decent, service was great! Lots of French options available and impressed with the menu! Wine selections were mostly French as well and would have liked to see some American wines but really that is the only thing I could come up with to say negatively. Ambiance was great and definitely going back here.

The place is very nice and service was great, but food can be improved. The oysters were delicious, the gnocchis and the salad were ok, but the escargots were awful.

Decided to check out Ondine after seeing how lovely the place looks and the great reviews. Well we were not disappointed. Inventive and tasty cocktails followed by delicious food. Oysters were tasty and fish and pasta were expertly done. The local greens that accompanied the dishes also provided a nice blend and taste. Chatting with Mark the host made the evening complete. Highly recommend!

I found Ondine after photographing the nearby harbor and shipyard during an extended visit exploring the Maine coast. It turned out to be the first of several nights I decided to have dinner there!
My original plan was a 3 day stop in Belfast but I extended my stay to explore this amazing area as well as “try everything on the menu” as I told Chef Evan Mallett who recently opened Ondine
The atmosphere, the food, the staff were all amazing – and, that despite being open only a few weeks. Everything was executed perfectly.
Over several nights I enjoyed some amazing food as well as meeting some really wonderful folks – the dining room and bar was a friendly mix of “townies” – as a couple folks I talked to described themselves – as well as foodies and visitors like me.
Chef has assembled a great team, created an awesome menu, and developed an amazing offering of great food and atmosphere. Ondine was a highlight of my Maine visit – highly recommend checking it out

Situated in an old bank building the bar has a very interesting room quality with the window behind the bar looking out on the street. Beautiful Belfast. But in the restaurant there is a generous proportions of art and room and food and drink and wonderful service people. Of course the food is stellar. I can’t wait to go back.

Wonderful restaurant!
The waitress Megan was professional and polite. Since it was a quiet evening, we ended up chatting with her and Evan- the owner.
They are both interesting and accomplished.
Oh but
the food…
was heavenly!
We started with a selection of oysters with mignonette. We had two of every oyster on the menu. The shallots were minced perfectly small, the acidity of the vingar was just right. Naturally, presentation was simply elegant.
Followed by the Caesar salad with Brussels sprouts, which was dressed with a piquant creamy Caesar, served with white anchovy. Again, presentation was elegant and portion size was just right.
For my main course, I ordered the bouillabaisse topped with the sweetest crab I have ever had. The shellfish was cooked just right; it was hot and impeccably seasoned.
Again, the portion size was just right.
I don’t recall what my spouse ordered, but he was equally thrilled with dinner.
The wine list seemed to be selected with the menu in mind. The Spanish Valdeorras was thoroughly enjoyable!
We plan on eating our way through the menu at Ondine; a real jewel in midcoast’s restaurant crown!

As an out of town transplant, I am constantly on the search for a good meal, Ondine delivered! I had reservations for 6 on Sunday and it was really a memorable meal. The best ive had in our 6 years in Maine. The pasta was divine, the oysters crisp and flavorful, and that macadamia tort, oh lordy that tort. I’m a chef by trade and I rarely write reviews due to my dissapointment in most establishments, but ondine is truly a fantastic meal. So good in fact that, I don’t think I will eat out anywhere else. Prices are really quite reasonable, we all ordered oysters, wine, entrees, and a few desserts, it came out to around $50 each, which for a meal this good is practically nothing. I have spent $100 a head for restaurants here and didn’t get 1-10th the experience, flavor, and presentation.
On another note my mother is allergic to everything, and almost always is disappointed in restaurants, but they were willing to make her a single unseasoned pork-chop, and she loved it. One of the best cuts of pork she has ever had. So hats off to everyone, we will all be back!

We love everything about this place. Prettiest space in town, great light. Nice to walk a few blocks and have this option. Great bang for buck on portion sizes. The vibe is wonderful and I hope it’s an all season success….thus far it’s still open in Dec so that’s a great sign bc Belfast is a 4-season destination.

Food was ok, but seriously overpriced. We sat at the bar, and the tender sprayed us while attempting to shake up our cocktails. Perhaps a different opinion on another visit, but first impressions weren’t great by any means.
