This is one of those 4 star spots worth going out of your way to experience. Time your evening so you’re seated just before sunset and take in the live music, dancing, and warm colors of the sky.

There is bar seating with larger tables further from the water, but up close you can sit waterside in groups of 3-4 with your feet in the sand. Excellent feel-good vibes.

No reservations, but the front was able to seat our group of 6 easily without much wait. Our waiter was fantastic and attentive.

They serve classic bar items with Hawaiian flair, and their popular entree is the fish tacos. The food was good, but with limitations. Some items were overly salted (chicken strips), and others came out cold, like they had been sitting around for a while (room service vibe). The best item was the dessert, Mauna Kea ice cream pie. Just look at that monstrosity!

Taking in the whole picture, we had a great time and would definitely come again.

Amazing location. Food was pretty good but poorly executed. Huge fresh fish steaks in the fish tacos were poorly seasoned. Giant plate of fantastic pork nachos, the cheese wasn’t melted at all. Delicious appetizers and mains, all brought out at the same time/not paced. Greeter was great, fast, attentive but Bartenders were slow and server took 20 min to take our drink order once we reached a table. Gorgeous beachside location just needs the extra 10% in a few areas to be top notch.

Overall, a decent experience with a great ocean view and live music. We visited on a weekday and still faced a 50-minute wait for dinner, so definitely come prepared for a crowd.

The food was decent, we had the fish tacos and a sandwich. The Mai Tai was well-made, but the highlight was the Coconut Ube cocktail recommended by our server.

Pro-tip: Parking isn’t free, and you’ll need to make sure you validate your license plate at the restaurant to avoid any issues

This is an awesome spot on the water! Great cocktails, local food favorites, and ambiance that can’t be beat! Was there on a Tuesday night, and they had live music, and a great atmosphere! This is a quintessential spot if you like Mai Tai’s and fish tacos on the water! The only downside was the wait was decently long (45 min). Otherwise, great spot!

On the Rocks Café is such a fun, laid-back spot with oceanfront vibes and the perfect place to unwind. Great views, relaxed atmosphere, and island energy all around.

We ordered the da bomb fries, sweet potato waffles, veggie quesadilla, and noodles, along with Mai Tais and piña coladas. The ube fries were a standout—crispy, slightly sweet, and totally addictive. Classic fries were perfectly golden. The veggie quesadilla was cheesy, filling, and comforting, while the noodles were flavorful and hit the spot. Drinks were refreshing and well-made—the Mai Tai had a great kick and the piña colada was smooth and tropical.

Perfect place for casual bites, colorful cocktails, and sunset views. Definitely worth stopping by while on the Big Island ✨

Great place! The location is right by the ocean and within easy walking distance from the nearby condo complexes.
There is live music and a hula dancer in the evenings which creates a wonderful atmosphere. It is a busy place in the evenings, but you can always find a table or seats at the bar.
The Lava cocktail is a must-have! Definitely a 12/10 spot for the cocktails, views and the vibe.

Everything about this place was absolute perfection for our last night in Kona. The seafood chowder was made with an absolutely delicious seafood base. Believe it or not it’s hard to find seafood chowder without chicken stock in it. The sourdough bowl was fresh and decadent. My husband had the fish and chips and the flavor in the breading was so yummy!
A lychee martini was the perfect addition for me and a local brew for my love. We sat at the bar. Excellent service. Awesome entertainment too! The views were spectacular even at night. 10/10 recommend!!

We loved this place so much we came back twice during our week in Hawaii — and honestly, I’d go again in a heartbeat. The food was incredible (the poke nachos are a must — seriously, some of the best I’ve ever had).

The first time we came was after a long day exploring Volcanoes National Park, and that meal hit the spot like nothing else. The atmosphere was perfect — ocean views, good vibes, and the friendliest service.

Huge shoutout to Jhett, who was absolutely amazing — super chill, friendly, and easy to chat with. And to the girl working the front who somehow recognized us the second time we came back (even though I looked totally different — new outfit, different hair, no glasses!) — that totally made my day (so sorry I didn’t grab her name). I also noticed how patient she was with older customers, even helping an older lady to the table and complimenting her bag.

This place just radiates good energy — great food, great people, and great views. Easily one of our favorite spots in Hawaii!

One of the other places near ali’i that doesnt seem to follow the same formula with the same ingredients… the food here is wonderful. The chicken sammich ( ali’imoi’i) was 10/10. Volcano fries 10/10. Dont pass it up for a great lunch with amazing views for a decent price. We didnt try dessert but we saw a few come out and they were massive and looked wonderful.

Great service. Cold beer.

Awesome restaurant and bar right on the shoreline, on the rocks!
Beautiful view of the Kailua Kona coast and of course those magnificent sunsets that this side of the island is famous for.
I have been coming here for years and as always the food and drinks are great.
You really can’t beat the beach vibe and the sandy floors add that real feeling of what island style is all about.
Live music and great service round out the experience.
Prices are in line, menu is great.
This place doesn’t disappoint.
If you like a casual place to hangout and enjoy the beach atmosphere, hit this place up, especially at sunset.
