My grandmother, her sister, and I went to On the Grill for dinner, and it was frustrating from the moment we sat down. We asked if we could order a small bowl of queso, similar in size to the complimentary salsa, because we didn’t want to pay $13 for the full appetizer. Despite explaining that clearly, they brought the full appetizer anyway.
The queso was, without exaggeration, the worst queso I have ever had in my entire life. It was watery, thin, barely warm, and completely flavorless. Not creamy. Not rich. Not even hot. It tasted like it had been sitting out and then watered down. We sent it back because it was genuinely inedible.
The biggest issue was communication. It wasn’t just our waiter. The entire waitstaff struggled to understand basic English, and it made ordering incredibly frustrating. Simple requests were misunderstood. When I asked for Tabasco or hot sauce, I was brought a bowl of the exact same sauce already covering my enchiladas. That wasn’t a small mix-up. It showed that what we were saying wasn’t being understood.
On top of that, I was repeatedly ignored. The waiter asked my grandmother and her sister about refills multiple times but never once acknowledged me. He walked away before taking my drink order, then later returned asking about refills without ever asking if I had even received one.
The entrees were overpriced slop. Bland, poorly executed, and absolutely not worth the price and the music volume was too high and made basic conversation impossible.
When a restaurant can’t execute basic food and basic communication, the entire experience falls apart. That’s exactly what happened here. I will not be returning.
My friend JJ told me about this place so had to check it out. My parents got a chicken soup and beef fajita tacos. I got the panchos cuz they could not do a botana for one. First off food was ok nothing special, service was not good. Waiter was nice but he kept forgetting things and the food took a long time to come out and it was dead I think only on couple was there. He took a while to refill drinks and had to remind him to bring the tortilla strips for the chicken soup. The place seemed kinda dark I think it needs more lighting. To me this place was not good but I’m assuming it the time and who we get. Cuz I’m sure some people might have a great experience with this place, but as for me it was not good.
The Avocado Chilaquiles were so good! I was surprised they came with chicken since the menu did not list it as such. It was a pleasant surprise! The sides were okay.
I couldn’t resist trying the Banana Foster pancakes. They were a generous serving of 4 fluffy pancakes that hit the spot.
Make sure to be ready to wait a bit if you go on a Sunday for brunch. Service was very slow in the beginning but it was incredibly busy.
The guacamole was fresh and the rice and refried beans are tasty.
The day we went in we noticed Ed the nachos are a popular choice at almost every table.
We visited on a Saturday night around 8pm and they had a local band playing Mexican music. They sounded good, but it was a little loud for some older friends like that were with us.
In all the plates that we had were the ribs in the Molcajete in a mild red salsa, fajitas, and steaks.
Everything was very good.
We all had a great time.
They do Serve alcohol and they are family friendly.
I do not recommend kids running around. Hot plates are coming out and sizzling salsas can spill easily.
Our food was great we ate it all.
The Servers were nice and quick to serve.
We are bringing some from work associates next week.
