Okie dokie! Let’s chat all things chitown! Hubby and I Sally forth to wellsville, Kansas for a car show. Yes, we’re those boomers. We love old cars. There are literally 100s of beautiful old cars and some new ones too! After walking about for an hour it’s time for a libation and something to eat! This place looks interesting as I gravitate toward its signage! (See the photo) It’s a chicago dog! SHUT UP!!!!! I am pulling hubby at top speed to this establishment and he’s saying, “where’s the fire?” IT’S HERE! there’s a line which is always a good indication it’s top . Our order is taken by a lady who isn’t pressed for time. She takes the time to make sure our order is correct. LOVE THIS. I (of course) the “Michael Jordan” which is a classic chitown dog. Hubby orders the New Yorker (dog with saurkraut). We also opt for Southside fries (without cheese). Man, I’m loving all the references to some of my favorite places in “My kind of town”. We both opt for a beer and head out to the beer garden because it’s beautiful weather. The wonderful lady who took our order makes sure to note on our ticket we’re outside and our food will arrive there (please tip the workers). Food arrives and I almost start weeping ad I have FINALLY found a chitown dog in Kansas worthy of being eaten. This is it, folks! Everything is perfect! Poppyseed bun! REAL sport peppers (not jalepenos- ), tomatoes! Onions! Dill pickle! Celery salt! I am so busy tearing up I almost (almost) forget to eat. AND WOW! it’s the same dog I used to get in the Loop or Rush Street area. Just sublime. Scrumptious and ridiculously THE SAME! fries are spot on! Crunchy and next time yes, I’ll get the cheese. And yes, there will be a next time which is probably next week without hubby so I can eat two. beer garden is spacious and clean. Bathroom is as well (sadly, no photos as I was in a rush to get back to my Chicago dog). 5 stars everywhere for this place! For my followers who live in Kansas but yearn for a true Chicago dog, THIS PLACE IS IT! GO!

This is a really awesome Chicago style bistro. Excellent food, Great decor, great management. If you have a good Chicago style dog or some good Italian sausage you have definitely got to go check this place out! My parents are from Chicago and they said that this place has nailed it.

This place is worth the drive. This is not a pretend Chicago style food place. It is legit. Having eaten at Portillos and Luke’s, the Italian beef was as good, if not better, so was the Chicago dog and the Dirka. The food is authentic in every way.
To top it off, the service was first-class and the restaurant was immaculately clean.
Wellsville Ks has a gem and so does KC.

I grew up in the Chicago area and I have eaten at Chicago hot dog restaurant Portillo’s many times. I thought the food here was just as good! If you have never tried an authentic Chicago hot dog or Italian beef sandwich you need to come here and enjoy!

I’m a huge fan of chicago style food and haven’t found a place in KC area that pleased me until today. When scrolling through facebook I found this place and was intrigued. I made plans to go right away, and then noticed it was closed on mondays. We regrouped and came today. The food was incredible. The beef tasted maybe even better than portillos. 10/10 will 100% come back. The owner was also quite friendly.

We have visited twice and had A BALL each time. Great Chicago hot dogs! I had the Combo (Italian Beef & Sausage) and it was excellent! Next time I’m trying the New York (even though I’m from Chicago I love sauerkraut). Great service and really friendly folks, plus a nice area to eat outside if you wish.

My husband and I are Chicago born and raised, moving to the Kansas City area 2 years ago. A coworker came across this establishment and shared with me, knowing how we longed for some Chicago Hot Dogs, Italian Sausage and Italian Beef. We finally got a chance to go here for dinner and boy are we glad we did! First, the building exterior is charming. Then we walked in the door and the restaurant we were equally impressed. A great menu and the owner Kathy was incredibly friendly. We went for The Jordan (traditional Chicago Hot Dog) and The Ditka (a Sausage & Beef combo) and Fries. We both agreed it was just like being back in Chicago!
We learned there’s a gorgeous Airbnb above the restaurant AND a fantastic outdoor space for warmer days. For fantastic, authentic Chicago food in a great atmosphere you have to go here. Seriously. You won’t be disappointed!!!

This is quaint restaurant is well worth the visit! The food is delicious, we had the Italian Sausage and a Chicago style hot dog – both were amazing! Next time I’m trying the Italian Beef Sandwich. The staff is very welcoming and attentive. We stayed overnight at the Loft upstairs and it is wonderful too!

As a former Chicago resident I needed to come give it a try since the only thing I miss about Illinois is the food. Definitely an authentic Chicago taste. Also the beer garden gives a genuine Chicago eatery experience. Highly recommend, will be back!
