Omakase at Barracks Row was quite simply the best meal I have ever eaten in my life.

Chef Ricky, Gabriel, and Chef Aaron elevate the entire experience to another level. The quality of every single bite is outstanding—each course somehow tastes better than the last. The care, precision, and intention behind every piece is immediately evident.

If you’re wondering whether it’s worth the splurge, it most certainly is. I truly cannot say enough good things. I’ve dined at other Michelin-star sushi restaurants, and none compare to the quality, attention to detail, and—most importantly—the flavor here.

I enjoyed the experience so much that I went twice in one week, and even in that short span of time, the menu evolved substantially. That level of creativity and freshness is rare.

This is a truly unique dining experience and worth every penny. It’s now a must-visit for me whenever I’m in DC.

I see why this spot has a Michelin Star!

Truly a great and intimate experience. With an attentive staff of four-ish, they were able to cultivate an experience where we can not only eat, but learn about the fish and food that we are eating – why they are prepared the way that they are and why they taste a certain way. Shoutout to Gabriel, we were IMPRESSED by his knowledge about Japanese culture and any of the food that was being prepared today. AND to have one main sushi chef and sous chef serving a group of 11, and still maintain quality sushi is absolutely mindblowing.

Overall, sushi was QUALITY and FRESH. You know it’s good when it almost starts to feel like it melts in your mouth in that first bite.

From the moment we stepped into the intimate omakase at Barracks Row, we knew we were in for something extraordinary — but Chef Ricky, Aaron and Gabrielle delivered an experience far beyond expectations.

Every course felt like a story — perfectly paced, beautifully presented, and bursting with creativity. Chef Ricky’s precision and artistry turned each bite into a masterpiece, while Gabrielle’s warm presence and impeccable sake pairings tied it all together like a symphony. The ingredients were pristine, the flavors balanced with genius delicate, bold, and surprising all at once.

There were moments when the room went completely silent because everyone was just in awe of what was happening in front of them. From buttery otoro that melted like silk to a uni creation that tasted like the ocean itself, and a lots of caviar it was pure magic.

This isn’t just dinner — it’s theater, poetry, and passion rolled into one unforgettable experience. Chef Ricky, Aaron and Gabrielle have created something truly special — a hidden gem. If you’re lucky enough to score a seat, go. Trust the process, savor every second, and prepare to have your mind completely blown. Highly recommend!

We chose Omakase @Barracks Row for our wedding anniversary, and it 100% worths it to every penny. The experience was astounding and memorable: each bite was super fresh and flavorful, we learned a lot more about the Edomae sushi style thanks to Gabriel; huge shout out to chef Ricky for creating such a cozy atmosphere and welcoming staff. Some fusions from chef Ricky I believe, like his everything-pickled (wasabi, carrot, etc) or some plays with the appetizers, and boy oh boy it was amazing. For a 1-Michelin-star restaurant, it totally lives up to the hype. We would definitely recommend everyone to try out this spot!

The best omakase in DC. Ask any question here and you will get a full, riveting culinary history. The chef here is particularly intentional about sourcing – they source highly sustainable and seasonal fish/seafood, women-owned sake brands, and rare Japanese specialties. Masterful temperature control and an amazing sake menu. Hospitality and customer experience are front and center.

Chef Ricky and the entire staff performed a delicate ballet the whole evening seamlessly providing outstanding service, in depth knowledge about every bite of food and sip to drink, and of course an incredible multi-course meal with such deep and complex flavors that obviously involved countless hours of honing their craft.

One of the most memorable meals I have had, I am glad you are a neighbor because I will be back!

I don’t even know where to begin my review! The food was absolutely AMAZING — I’ve never tried anything like it before. Every dish felt like a journey full of surprises and discovery. Honestly, it’s one of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life.

The whole experience is priceless. The chef is incredibly focused while working, but also takes the time to joke around and chat with guests, which made it even more special. The waiter was fantastic — always there to explain each dish in detail. You can ask him anything, and he truly knows it all.

We’ll definitely be coming back! Even my mom, who has never tried sushi in her life, said she’s willing to come next year when she visits me. That says it all!

Having dined at two and three Michelin star Omakase and sushi restaurants in both Kyoto, Japan, and San Francisco, this was by far the best dining experience as far as flavors, sake pairing, and overall dining experience. The fish could not have been any fresher, the combination of unique condiments and fish was amazing, and the bold flavors in the sake created a dining experience that was to die for. The sake pairing was absolutely worth it, and a must to really fully enjoy the menu. Gabriel knows his spirit, and will recommend the best pairing, wine or sake. This was an amazing dining experience, and the attention to detail made this experience extraordinary, something you will not experience often in the DC metro area.
