Went this past weekend and enjoyed it a lot. Cozy atmosphere with a decent bar area and patio area to enjoy. We sat patio due to the wait.
Huge drink menu and lots of delicious food choices. Can’t wait to go back and see how this place flourishes in the future!
– the chili was 10/10
– the crab cakes weren’t “burnt” they were seared/crisped outside to add that final touch.
– the pizza (Roadhouse pie) was delicious.
– service was amazing, not only did we see our server many times, we had additional people on check on us.
– clean bathrooms.
– I never went to the original Onley Ale, however as a first timer, I found it charming and cozy! I’m sure the old one was very charming, but change is good.
– parking was very easy. We did come on Sunday around 11:45am. When we left closer to 1pm there was still plenty of parking.
We went tonight and the place was packed. We were told it would be 30-45 min wait for a table of two so we grabbed a drink at the bar while we waited. Pretty decent selection of beer, some interesting craft cocktails, and both red and white wines
We got seated in less time than expected and started with the pig candy (pork belly burnt ends) as an appetizer. Sweet, savory, smokey, sticky. The pickled red onions and jalapeños added a nice refreshing pop. I had a burger and the wife got a cheesesteak.
Hands down the best burger and cheesesteak in Olney!
Since we were already cheating with our dinner choices we decided to go ahead and get dessert too. Bread pudding (à la mode) and Cheesecake. Two very fine desserts. My wife mentioned wishing that the cheesecake was chilled, other than that, no complaints about the meal at all!
Our server, Clarice, was great! 4 out of 5 stars for service is not a knock on her but rather that she needed a bit more help covering the large section. She made her rounds and was always super pleasant and cheerful.
Will absolutely return and, more importantly, recommend the Olney Ale House to anyone looking for some solid eats.
The good? The fish and chips portion is large, and the staff were nice. It’s the original building. The water didn’t taste like tap water so they’re probably using a filter.
The bad? Everything else. It honestly fell flat on it’s face. Looking at the menu, there was nothing in particular that stood out. It’s a pretty standard menu. There wasn’t vegetables offered with anything, just orzo and rice, or fries. They do give you bread, but they somehow managed to make it bland. The soup of the day was Maryland crab soup, and had a few teeny tiny slivers of crab in the bowl, so I guess it technically qualifies as “crab” soup. It tasted like a vegetable soup, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was just their vegetable soup with some crab slivers put in for when they feel like calling it crab soup.
The fish and chips, looked good, and was ok, nothing special, the batter was crispy at least. Consider adding salt and malt vinegar to the assortment of sauces on the plate.
The turkey sandwich barely had any turkey.
I was told the chili was average.
Would I come back here? Not in the near future. There is nothing special about this place anymore, and it lost the charm it once had. Maybe if they rework the menu, bring back some classics, and try to introduce other sides, I might give them a second chance, but for now it is just a huge letdown.
