In March 2018, Oliver’s in the Heights changed ownership. While the name and famed pizza recipe remains, other aspects keep evolving. Our entire upstairs bar and kitchen have been renovated and we’ve got an expanded menu. Plus, we’ve added new spaces—including an enclosed outdoor patio, basement bar, 1231 room, and speakeasy. Oliver’s also features the largest outdoor beer garden in the Heights, complete with a stage, concession booth, and firepit. It’s the ideal place to enjoy free live music! And, with indoor and outdoor options, Oliver’s is a great choice to host events for friends, family, and business, with ample free parking nearby. We chose Oliver’s on a Friday night and the place was packed. They have a great patio and there was live music. Looked like the crowd was having a great time.
We decided it was too loud outside, so we chose to get a seat inside. It was still very busy, but you could talk and that’s what we wanted.
We started with some boneless wings and hot honey cheese bites. Both were outstanding. The hot honey cheese bites were crunchy on the outside and gooey cheesy delicious on the inside with a perfectly tasty sweet and spicy dipping sauce.
We ordered a taco pizza and Oliver’s version of a supreme (sausage, mushroom, green pepper, and onion). I preferred the taco … it was really good. I would have liked to have seen more toppings on the deluxe. Both were super thin and crispy.

I don’t normally leave poor reviews, but this one kinda stuck with me.

The service was really poor, after our order was taken the server just sat on the side of the bar and we couldn’t even wave her down. We didn’t get any refills on our drinks and we even asked a passerby server for another drink and it still didn’t happen. When we were done with our food we waited over 25 minutes for our server for a box, which still didn’t happen. We were here for 2.5 hours and she only came over to take our order and bring food, rest of the night basically ignored us and sat by the side. I wouldn’t have minded if she was busy.

We had to go to the bar for a takeout box and asks for a drink to go, which we waited over 10 minutes for the drinks and just decided to leave without.

I was also kindof shocked by the bill. Over 50$ for a pizza and two beers.

We also met some friends there, and they got drinks at the bar (because the waitress wouldn’t come to the table) and they got charged two different prices for the exact same drink through the night.

The food was good, but really overpriced.

Our group collectively decided we likely won’t be coming back to Oliver’s in the future, mostly due to the inconstant expensive prices and the rough service.

Great service, great food! Stopped in on a beautiful day to eat outside and had a great experience. The waitress was on point, checked frequently to make sure we had everything we needed, took our orders and brought the food out promptly along with drink refills. We had the loaded nachos for an appetizer and a Stromboli to share. All very tasty! The pizza here is very good too. I highly recommend Oliver’s in the Heights!

Pizza was delicious and fast even though it was very busy due to a live music event.
Music was great, sound man did very well. Atmosphere was wonderful outside with great lighting.

We went on a Sunday and we’re there in enough time to try their brunch menu which is offered from 9 AM to 1 PM. All of their tables were full and it was just wait yourself when you walk in and choose where you want to sit. The menu had a lot of variety and options. We tried the huge pretzel, the all meat, breakfast pizza off the brunch menu, and the BLT pizza off the regular menu. I believe that they were short staffed because the waitresses were running around like crazy and I heard the table next to us have to wait 10 minutes before they were even checked on. We also had to wait 15 minutes before we go place our order. The food was delicious and the pizzas for a medium breakfast pizza was $22. I think that is a little high for a medium breakfast pizza. The large BLT pizza was 23. On their menu it said 21 so I’m not sure what the extra two dollars was for All in all we would go back again and really enjoyed our food. The decor was all decorated for Christmas and a Grinch theme and it was really cool. It looks like they put a lot of effort into it.

Took my dog for his birthday dinner and the pizza was disgusting, I wanted to go to brinzos first, but they said the wait time was about 40 minutes so I called this place and the girl lied and said it would be about 20 minutes, but it ended up being an hour wait for nasty pizzas, even my dog can tell pizzas wasn’t good bc I kept telling him to eat it other pizza places I wouldn’t have to bc he will eat it by himself, I know I will never ever take my family back here again. And the kids and noise was outrageous like… it’s a bar… keep your 12 kids out.

Oliver’s is a difficult place to consider for a review because I’ve had both very good and very bad experiences here. I reluctantly have to rate it as a 2/5.

Pros:
I’ve never had bad food or drink. The pizzas are among the best in Peoria. During the warmer months, the atmosphere of the large outdoor dining area is fantastic, and the live music is usually a good vibe.

Cons:
Frankly, it’s all service related. I suspect the place is understaffed, and that’s a shame. Nevertheless, it means long waits, servers who aren’t able to provide a good experience, dirty tables, and just a general sense of being ignored. To be clear, staff has always been polite and professional, but distracted and stretched thin.

Twice now I’ve been seated with a small group only to have to leave after 20+ minutes of no service at all. It’s disappointing, and I’m at the point where I likely won’t be going back anytime soon.

TLDR: Great food, good atmosphere, poor service.

We were there with a party of 6. Staff was very accommodating and helpful. Grinch pop up was super cute. Pizza was delicious. Lots of options of food and drink. Music was a little loud but they let us move to a quieter place, without a problem.
