After three days of convincing my fiancé to get Olive Garden for dinner, I was genuinely excited. Unfortunately, this visit was extremely disappointing. Our server greeted us promptly and took our drink order. Despite discussing ordering our child’s food, she left abruptly, saying she would be right back. Several minutes later, she returned with our drinks while complaining about the bar.
We ordered our appetizer, kid’s food, and entrées, and things initially seemed to improve. The appetizer and soups came out quickly, followed by our child’s meal, and everything was great. But when our entrées (two Chicken Parmigianas) arrived, I was instantly disappointed. The chicken looked nothing like what I have always received and barely had any mozzarella cheese. Before I could say anything, the server walked away.
She was clearly busy with a large party next to us, but for the next 10 to 15 minutes she never checked back or even glanced our way. I finally used the call-server button on the kiosk, but she continued tending to the other table. When she eventually returned, still complaining about the large party, I told her I did not want the Chicken Parmesan and asked to have it taken off the bill. When she asked what was wrong, I explained that it did not look as advertised. I have ordered this dish every single time I have visited Olive Garden, and I have never seen it served like this. My fiancé added that I did not want to eat it without the mozzarella. Instead of offering to replace the dish or apologizing, she simply asked if he wanted a box for his food.
While I was in the restroom, the manager came over to apologize to my fiancé and said she would come back to speak with me as well. I appreciated her professionalism and the way she handled it. When the server returned with boxes, she gave a brief monotone apology while clearing the table but did not say anything else. I even helped her clear dishes and still left nearly a 20 percent tip despite it being the worst service I have ever received at any Olive Garden.
As a former server myself, I understand how stressful a large party can be, but it is never an excuse to ignore your other tables. A simple apology for the delay would have gone a long way.
I have attached a picture of the Chicken Parmigiana I received compared to the one pictured on the menu. I do not know about you, but I do not expect to pay $20 for something that looks nothing like what is advertised. I am sorry if expressing my dissatisfaction upset the server, but regardless, every guest deserves respectful and attentive service.
On this visit the service was fairly quick however the wait staff likes to take your order without writing anything down. Like at other restaurants, this typically doesn’t play out well. They either don’t enter the order correctly or they don’t remember what was ordered so they can’t verify it’s correct when bringing it to the table.
I ordered the raspberry lemonade which is usually pretty good. Tonight it was weak on both the lemonade side and raspberry side. You can tell just by looking at it that it was weak. Not worth complaining about, just probably another way to save money.
The bread sticks were good as usual as well as the salad.
Ordered the create your own pasta dish with angel hair pasta, meat sauce and meatballs. As mentioned above, attention to the order failed. I got regular spaghetti instead of the angel hair pasta. The waitress did correct it quickly but only after I pointed it out. The meat sauce is a bit watery and the meatballs lack Italian flavors. Just a little bland. Otherwise the portion was very good and served very hot.
Also ordered the pasta e fagioli soup. Very yummy and got a bowl to take home as well.
You still get the chocolate mints and you pay with their kiosk. The kiosk does not calculate tip correctly against the subtotal, instead it uses the amount including tax. You can adjust it easily.
