I have been going here for almost a year. I’ve tried to be friendly (with Dave the main bartender), tip nicely, etc. He is consistently rude. The only people that hang out here is his family and longtime friends. Is he the bar owner? Because there is no way, if I owned a business, that I would allow someone like this to be a community builder. It’s as if you have to pass his 13-year-old teenager test…. have a beard, tattoos, be family or long-time friends, and then maybe you can make it into his community. If you want to just go and relax for a drink, shoot some pool, this would be a place. But, some of his minions seem to follow suit. So sad it can’t be a community type, cool place to hang out in the middle of SLC. It really is a cool building. But, the guts suck! If you want to meet new people that are welcoming, cool and chill…go somewhere else!

Maybe the staff have changed but I cannot fathom anyone thinking the bartender I’ve seen is “great”. I’m a dive bar guy, and I’m accustomed to the rudeness but this guy is next level unless you are part of the click that always hangs out there. He acts super annoyed anytime he has to walk away from his friends to pour a beer for “outsiders” and I’ve seen him literally roll his eyes at a friend’s drink selection. I felt like I was at someone’s house who wanted me to leave. When I returned I hoped he remembered I still tipped well but nope – every bit as mean and annoyed as before. I suspect all these glowing reviews come from the click of regulars that’s treated like royalty and not newcomers (or they’re bought/faked)

Me and my husband have lived in Midvale for years and could not wait to try this place. During a local Mural Festival we suggested visiting the Tavern, as we are always attempting to promote Midvale treasures. To our surprise, when we got there, we witnessed them turning away an artist due to him only having a Mexican passport so we did a U turn and will never go back. The whole situation was off. As latinos with many Mexican family members and friends, we know businesses accept foreign passports as IDs otherwise what would tourists even do? Anyway, Our family will not be supporting this type of business and it’s sad to think the word will spread and may affect this senior establishment.

This place wouldn’t take my Mexican passport which is ridiculous, I can go to any bar and liquor store in the states with it and purchase alcohol or tobacco and it’ll be accepted I’ve never had an issue in any bar up until this one the Mexican matricula(Mexican ID) won’t scan and isn’t permitted in bars I’ve been told this several times what I have been told is only my passport is allowed i checked Utah laws. And it’s a well known thing if you’re traveling from out of the states you need your passport to purchase alcohol or Enter bars. So if you’re from out of the country walk the other way you’re not allowed. Mi jente si no son ciudadanos ni siquiera el pasaporte se lo van a permitir no los quieren aquí!

These guys refused business to a Mexican mural painter that was brought in by Midvale City. They apparently don’t serve Mexican people. Shame on them for this behavior.
