Old Town Sushi – Exceptional Sushi and Relaxing Atmosphere in …
Reviews
It’s almost always busy. I’ve never just walked straight in without a wait, and that’s usually a good sign. The two sushi chefs work nonstop behind the bar, and the rhythm of the place feels focused and intentional. There’s usually one or two servers handling the floor, and they stay on top of things even when the room is full. I’ve noticed there’s a separate back room as well, which adds to the layered feel of the space.
Dinner tends to be an experience here, not a quick stop. The last time I went, the whole evening stretched close to two hours from start to finish, and it never felt rushed. It felt like settling into the night.
The sushi itself was outstanding. Fresh, balanced, and beautifully put together. It’s the kind of meal that makes you sit back for a second and just appreciate the craft. The flavors were wonderfully done and absolutely worth the wait.
Old Town Sushi has that cool, stylized, slightly hidden energy that makes it more than just dinner. It’s a place I enjoy returning to, whether I’m thinking through a new thriller plotline or just enjoying a long conversation over great food.
The sushi was good. There were 3 of us & we ordered 4 rolls & there were 3 pieces left. I ordered the diabla with 5 heat on a 1-5 scale. “Are you sure? It’s Carolina reaper?” they asked. Yes. It was spicy but not GET ME SOME MILK NOW hot. I don’t know if they have paper menus, we used the qr code. 4 rolls, no drinks, $70.
Will we return? Yes.
The Crab Rangoon (fried one tons with cream cheese), was dark brown and obviously overcooked. The Lobster Nachos, while visually appealing, tasted like undrained canned shrimp, or lobster. It was so salty I could barely eat it. When the waitress asked how the food was I told her the lobster was “over salty.” She immediately spun around and walked away with no discourse. All of the staff looked and acted like it was all new to them, or like they had just bought this reasturant. The bill for the two appetizers was $35. I’m reluctant ro post a negative review, but this experience really put me off.
As far as the food goes, I had several issues. First off, the miso soup came only halfway filled. Miso is by no means expensive, so no clue what happened there. Then, the main dish was a train wreck. The rice was very hard, the yellowtail slices were paper-thin, and they changed out the shrimp for amberjack without even the courtesy of telling me. When I asked about it, they told me the menu changed daily based off what they had (what’s the point of a menu then?) and that it was an “upgrade,” as if that was the end of it. Well, I love shrimp and I DO NOT like amberjack so not exactly an upgrade for me! The rest of the food wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t a satisfying experience by any means.
I really don’t know why someone would go here, maybe it was just a bad night for them but I can’t imagine there aren’t better options for sushi here.
