MAJOR STAFFING ISSUES. Wouldn’t recommend unless you have 2+ hours to spend.

Only 2 chefs, two waitresses, no host/hostess, and 2 bus boys for 8 tables that could seat 12 people each.

To preface, the food tasted great.

We had a 7pm reservation didn’t get sat until 8. The waitresses were great about our drinks and appetizers. One of the 2 chefs were able to come about 8:30.

There was no hostess to greet us or made sure we got checked in- we had to get a waitresses attention to check in. Only to find out that the waitresses were also having to play host and manage their tables at the same time. And they had too much on their plates to do so. The two chefs were clearly worked to the bone and they hardly had time to take a breath before having to go to another table, but they did great at entertaining and cooking.

Overall the restaurant was filthy- except for the tables/eating/cooking area, food was pretty good, the servers and chefs did their best, but there is a MAJOR UNDERSTAFFING issue that leads to service and overall quality issues.

Don’t believe the negative reviews. The fried rice is delicious. The meat cooked to perfection! The employees caring to give a good experience to their customers. I love it! It’s a hole in the wall for sure, hidden behind the tjmaxx and other stores in the strip mall. Try it out and support local.

First I’ll start by saying 2yrs ago this establishment was very nice. We decided to visit for date night and boy were we taken aback. No host to greet us, once seated we waited a good 10mins for drink orders to be taken. Another 10 to receive them. Oh and its BYOB, they have no liquor license. The food was Mid and the place looks run down.

Thank you for a great Valentine’s dinner.
Did the Valentine’s special for a 3 course meal for two for $70.
Our cook was awesome he actually talked to us and created a fun environment. About three items were forgot at our table but our cook was quick to solve the problem. The food tasted great and honestly the fried rice is still the best in town.
Everything, even the steak and chicken was cooked perfectly and was so flavorful. We definitely will be back again.

If you’re ever thinking, Kobe’s? Or Old Tokyo? You should heavily choose Old Tokyo EVERYTIME, This place has heart, this place has potential and most importantly this place has FLAVOR!! I cannot explain to you the under value this establishment goes through, you are missing out big time if you choose any other hibachi place over this place here in Wichita

Someone on Facebook asked for a recommendation and after I wrote this out I realized I hadn’t left the review yet.

Old Tokyo is one of the best secrets in Wichita.

Not a very well kept one but criminally under discovered.

Their dining room is the perfect size so you’re not overcrowded or drowned out by all the noise but still get to enjoy the show and have an amazing meal.

Please sell this place to a owner who cares about his business and customers. This place has gone down hill and never looked back. It’s quite pathetic at this point. Wichita definitely needs more hibachi restaurants but this one is a total let down. They still operate with only 2 hibachi cooks and it’s sad. I came in here tonight and this place was so dead. I called in earlier and made reservations for 8 o’clock we got there at 7:50 without being greeted and sat around for 15 minutes. The hibachi side was dead and looked so sad/pathetic. When someone finally greeted us she said give me a minute and never came back. Please shut it down and put it up for sell. This used to be a hidden gem now it’s a hidden joke.

We have eaten here many many times. We made reservations on Monday for Wednesday. We show up 5 minutes before our reservation to find a hand written sign on the window that says “Closed due to staffing”

There was no phone call, Facebook post or any communication. We were not the only ones that showed up either. This place seems to really have gone down hill recently. I suggest reading the reviews before you go.

Also, it’s been over a year since they claim to have been working on their liquor license.

Made a reservation for 2 for an important anniversary. When we showed up were told that “someone stole our reservation” but they assured me they would get us seated and fix it then left and didnt see the hostess agian, waited 15 minute and decided to leave because clearly they were just waiting until the next table was ready to be filled and we were an afterthought, what’s the point of making people do reservations when you give them away to other people anyways and then dont even fix it

The restaurant looks like it is going through some kind of remodeling or it has changed hands. And there are missing pictures of the walls the bathrooms are under disarray. The bar is not opened, is not serving cocktails or drinks. But the guys fixing the food are very entertaining and are the best thing in the restaurant.
