IN 1983, KARL & URSULA SELINGER of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Germany in the Rhineland Pfalz, opened the Old Stein Inn to serve the finest German cuisine in a welcoming gemütlichkeit to their community in Anne Arundel County. Karl cooked traditional German specialties and Ursula tended to their customers.
After years of serving the community, Karl & Ursula passed the torch to their son, Mike —and his wife, Beth. Mike saw the growth and changes in the area and was determined to continue his parents’ tradition of connecting the community. He built a traditional Biergarten to give neighbors a place to enjoy al fresco dining with friends and family.
The ten German taps pour an unparalleled selection of beer. The Old Stein has been featured
Long-standing (since 1983) family-owned eatery, serving hearty German fare & imported brews.

We drove 1 ½ hours from Northern Virginia to get some good, authentic German food because there are no decent German restaurants in the immediate DC area.
The restaurant has a nice ambiance, not too noisy, and a friendly and attentive staff.
The food is as good as you can get in the U.S. – I had the pretzel, Jägerschnitzel with spätzle, and cabbage. There is a good selection of German beer. I was not disappointed and would make the drive again next time I am craving German comfort food.

Our 1st visit was back in May of 2021 … we’ve been back several times and even brought back my hubby’s family. The first time was enjoyable. Made us want to come back. Our server was great and she rolled with the punches, which made it more fun. The atmosphere was authentic with lots of German touches. The food was good but nothing outstanding. The schnitzel — when authentic is very thin and usually the size of the plate, but my husband said it was good. Hubby and friends enjoyed their weizen – love their weizen, when they can find it. Sooooooo we came back with our grown kids and their significant others and again, everything was enjoyable, pleasant and memorable. Sooo the next time we brought my hubby’s whole family — mother, sister, brother, neice and nephews …. hmmmmm … the food was great, the atmosphere was fun and thriving … and then there was the ‘server’ … when I let him know that we needed to split the check … whoop wait … nope, can’t do that … his whole demeanor changed …. he gave me so much push back and grief about the check, he even gave me a separate reason (excuse maybe) that “he forgot his glasses.” Ok … no problem … give me the check and I’ll break it down for you so that it should make it easier for you. Whoop, wait … no, nope that’s not the way we do it. I said, please … bring me the check. I broke it all down – worked out to the dime … paid our bill and we were on our way … unfortunately that process took such a loooooong time that we were all exhausted and just wanted to go home … Oh, btw … we don’t live in Maryland and had a 2 hr drive ahead of us. Our choice, but with stomachs full … the sitting and waiting for the check to be resolved caused our mind and bodies to go into zombie mode. Woof … what a loooong ride. So needless to say, we haven’t been back … but I’m sure we will venture back and give it another go.

“I would like to share our dinner last night. Our experience, its our first time to visit & have dinner here. Everything was good we love the place very clean & nice, the server is very friendly. Food price is very normal price, but we have concern about our appetizers, we order a crab ball made with a crab meat. So yummy actually, but the price is way so expensive for 3 pcs $23 . I hope they gonna change that price though so expensive. We’re actually surprised.

Any time I can have some authentic German, I’m there. Always liked the Inn, first revisit in ~15yrs, it deserves more of my time. I’m 45mins away so it’s not just around the corner. Tis the season for German fest, I’ll be back! My server for Sunday lunch was soooo nice and on top of her game and chatty. Thank you

Overall, the food was pretty good… I definitely enjoyed their potato pancakes… brought back memories of how way my grandmother, aka Oma, used to make them when I was a kid….
It’s definitely a tap house with a great selection of beers….

Fun evening with friends. Great atmosphere, lots of beer and even wine. Excellent food for heavy German food and also nice to see that there were a couple of salmon dishes for people who wanted lighter food. Definitely a fun place to go, most of us had been there before, but never together so it was a fun choice. Parking was easy and adequate. The waitstaff did a good job with a large group and everyone seemed satisfied. They were not able to split the check, but were able to run multiple cards at the end of the evening so it was not a big deal. It’s a nice little get-a-way since it is a bit outside of our every week Annapolis restaurants. It’s definitely worth a bit of a drive especially if you are in the mood for German food. Also, noticed that it was a dog friendly establishment which is always a plus for me!

Staff are exceptional, however food quality has been hit or miss the past couple of visits. Apple strudel, which had always been excellent was absolutely terrible, undercooked and very gooey. I ordered the special menu bison burger and I think a single White Castle burger has more meat. After eating my meal I went home and had dinner. Didn’t have that on my bingo card.

Just had dinner here, and it was a great experience. Our server Suzy was attentive, very friendly, and made great menu recommendations. The food was prepared with care and was delicious. The Sauerbraten was tender, and the gravy complimented everything on the plate. The apple streudel for dessert… I could have eaten three servings. Amazing! I can’t wait to come back.

When done right German food can hit, and at Old Stein Inn, it hits. My wife and I went for the first time recently after a few years in the area and were sickened in that we hadn’t been before. Great restaurant set up exactly how it should be for being German themed. The food was great, the red cabbage paired very well with the schnitzel and the apple strudel was amazing. Highly recommend when you’re in the area.

Great family friendly place. Lots of high chairs available. Be prepared to spend some time and enjoy the place and all the food and drinks. Mixed reviews of the sandwiches, good but not amazing, but the dinner entres were delicious. The hand cut fries were great. I had the short ribs. Tons of food, big portions. The pretzel was good, and the beer cheese is a must for that and use for your fries! The sausage sampler was not what I expected, based on real German beer halls. It was good, though. Next time I would just fill up on the entrees and beer and pretzels. Great beer selection! Staff were amazing, very nice and patient with us.
