We had such a great experience here! The sushi was incredible. We tried the snow crab, dragon rolls, Alaskan, and a few other ones, and every bite was fresh and delicious. The flavors were spot on, and everything came out beautifully plated.

Even better? The kids were obsessed with the boba! It was the perfect treat to go with our meal and definitely kept them happy while we devoured the sushi.

Great service, cozy atmosphere, and top-tier food. Would definitely be back!

One of my favorite places to have mozzarella sticks with an impressive cheese pull, tasty club sandwich with tots, or load up on the most delicious sushi you can find in the state.

Edit: Unfortunately, I must change my review after months of attendance. The quality of the fish here has gone downhill since I originally posted my review during their opening week. The sashimi served has went from a thick, delicious quality, to dry and thin without the moisture needed to really preserve the flavors. It puts the overall tier of the food a few, sad notches above gas station grade, but not much higher. I normally don’t expect too much ocean-freshness near the geological center of North America, but the sushi restaurants in the surrounding cities of Grand Forks and Minot serve a satisfying, good quality that I consider worth the money spent. I no longer consider this current level of quality at Old Spirits & Sushi to be worth the price.

Their straws have a sharp end now, so I can pierce their boba tea seals to neatly drink them instead of peeling the seal off and making a mess. It really should have always been provided that way, though, as every other establishment that provides boba has this. The tapioca pearls in the boba tea, when they are available, have only been hard and inedible once in a handful of orders so far, and I had it refunded.

Several orders over the phone for my own pickup and also through the DoorDash app have ended with missing items or even the wrong items entirely. They were happy to fix every issue, though, and very kind about it. There does seem to be a general slowness to the taking of orders over the phone though, as the hired staff doesn’t entirely seem to know their own menu while I’m ordering off of it.

I do have a very important and specific problem with the seating arrangement under the stairs. There are always a few older men that sit at a table right underneath the slotted stairs that go to the upper level dining area. As a patron, you should NOT wear skirts or dresses here because of this. If the establishment simply removed that seating area, there would not be a plausibly deniable excuse to what they are doing (looking up people’s skirts), but I do see what these patrons are doing and it’s disgusting, and unsafe. The staff are not the ones doing this, mind you, but allowing that at all is unacceptable.

(Old review: Excited to have this sushi restaurant in Devils Lake! Fresh rolls and fresh sashimi! The salmon cuts were thick and delicious, the bbq eel was tasty as well. The rice was soft and seasoned. I ordered the coffee boba tea with tapioca and it will easily be my recurring order. The tuna rolls were good but a bit under sized for the price: the lunch for two felt rather small for forty dollars. The sushi restaurant is upstairs through the bar, which isn’t straight forward but the staff is friendly and helpful to direct. Overall, it was pleasant and i’ll be eating here regularly.)

Loved the sushi. Nice little restaurant that is inside of a bar. We went for lunch and it was very quiet, but with dart boards close by I can see it being louder for supper time. Will definitely go back.

Fantastic sushi place with a lot of authentic options. Definitely was not expecting something like this to be in Devil’s Lake of all places. It is in a bar which was a bit noisy with the gambling machines but other than that, would definitely recommend.

Best steak and poke bowl within 200 mile radius of Jamestown, ND. The service is second to none. Don’t believe the menu they will custom make anything on the menu. 10 out of 5 stars all day.

Probably the best hamburger I’ve had in. A long time. Compliments to the cook. Sushi was good as well. Only negative was I got my burger well before my sushi. New Restaurant that minor detail can be worked out.
