Reviews
The cheesesteak exceeded my expectations. The sandwich was served on the perfect roll, filled with tender, flavorful beef, sautéed onions, green peppers, and mushrooms, all generously smothered in gooey, melted cheese—5 out of 5 stars.
The fries were hot, fresh, golden, crispy, and perfectly seasoned, making them the ideal accompaniment to the hearty cheesesteak—5 out of 5 stars.
The staff at Old School Philly Cheesesteaks were accommodating and friendly. I mentioned I was moving nearby, and they warmly welcomed me. They even recommended trying their hot dogs on my next visit, which I’m looking forward to—5 of 5 stars.
Old School Philly Cheesesteaks also offers a fantastic selection of sodas, including classic favorites like Birch Beer and Orange Cream. This adds to the nostalgic experience of savoring an authentic Philly cheesesteak. Several flavors were out or malfunctioning when I was there, but I could enjoy two of my favorites—4 of 5 stars.
The restaurant has a casual and welcoming atmosphere, making it an excellent spot for a quick, satisfying meal, whether dining in or taking it to go. The service was friendly and efficient, ensuring an enjoyable experience from start to finish. The restaurant was a little warm but not comfortable. They used fans to keep the air moving, which is very on-brand for Philly —4 of 5 stars.
Old School Philly Cheesesteaks is a must-visit for anyone in the area seeking an authentic cheesesteak experience. The food quality, nostalgic drink options, and inviting atmosphere make it a standout, and I’m excited to visit again and become a regular —5 of 5 stars.
Meal made to order, I would order with 1/2 the spice next time. I found price is higher-than-average, *they do not use authentic Amoroso rolls* because their research found the quality had diminished, they DO use Rolls from Ne Jersey – the quality is definitely there! I highly recommend!
Finding a passable cheesesteak in Florida, let alone a good one is not an easy task. I have to say I definitely enjoyed this steak. It started with the roll. It was definitely authentic Philly bread, so clearly they have it shipped in, as there’s no such thing as good bread in Broward county.
Next was the consistency of the ribeye. It was that nice fine line between too thin, and too thick. It meshed well with the onions and Whiz. It could’ve used a tad more seasoning, but hey that’s why there’s salt and pepper shakers… My only complaint really was they put a tad too much Whiz on it. But too much Whiz is far better than too little.
All in all this was a very good steak and I’ll be visiting again! 4.5/5 (for the purposes of Google reviews 5’s all around, because we round up!)
Edit: I emailed the owner at the address below and never heard a response. This is really sad, I was hoping to give them some feedback and try it again but I guess I’ll just never go again.
Edit 1/13/22
I was contacted by the owner about 2 weeks ago and he invited me back into the restaurant to give them another try. He asked for feedback, and was genuine in his responses. I always appreciate a restaurant that reaches out after a good or bad review but to invite me back personally shows that he takes pride in his establishment. Fast forward to today, it’s like a tale of two cities with the meals: this was delicious. The cheese steaks were made well – plenty of whiz (see photo now attached). The fries were seasoned well, and really good too. The place was clean as it was previously and the birch beer was just as good. I am happy to see that the owner really took the time to listen and read the reviews, work with the staff, and improve at least my experience. I’ll be back again the next time I have a cheesesteak hankering.
