This was my first time to Old Salt Fish and Bagel, and I will definitely go back. The bagels are fantastic (obviously they’re best fresh but you could keep them for a day or two at home as well.)
I had the lox sandwich with everything bagel as they recommended it off the menu. Would definitely get it again. I’m interested to try some of their other offerings as well.
Service was fast and friendly. One thing to note is parking can get crowded in the area. I went on a weekday before noon and easily found parking on the street.
Looking forward to stopping in next time I’m in area.

We’ve been here multiple times and the food is good! They have a small selection of different cured fish you can choose to top your bagel. Their bagels are doughy and soft with a little extra chew. The cream cheese is well balanced and it doesn’t feel like they give you too much. The only reason I’m giving this place 4 / 5 is for the prices. Personally, >$16 for a bagel, cream cheese and a small amount of cured fish isn’t a fair price. Or maybe I’m just not a cured fish on bagels kinda guy.

We recently visited the Old Salt location in Ballard and loved the whole experience. The storefront is so charming, the colors really stand out! While there isn’t indoor seating, there are some outdoor spots to enjoy your food. Parking was surprisingly easy, with free street options nearby. The bagels here are not your traditional dense, hard-to-chew kind, which is exactly why I love them! They’re chewy, fluffy, and moist — such a refreshing change. We tried the Kippered Salmon Sandwich and the Smoked Cod Sandwich. At first, I thought the prices were a bit high, but the portions of fish were generous and filling, so it felt well worth it.
Another pleasant surprise was the coffee. Usually, bakery coffee can be bitter or disappointing, but Old Salt’s was smooth and easy to drink, perfect pairing with their bagels. Overall, a wonderful spot in Ballard with unique bagels and excellent fish sandwiches. Definitely worth a visit!

I’m obsessed with this place. You can see them preparing everything behind the counter, which I always love—and everything just feels fresh and full of good energy. The bagels and cream cheese are incredible—perfect texture, great flavor, and you can tell they really care about the food they’re putting out.
It’s got that neighborhood vibe that makes you want to come back again and again. Definitely in my top 5 favorite quick breakfast spots in Seattle right now.

Tbh, the Lox and Veggie bagels priced at $16 and $14 respectively are not worth it. When I had Essa bagels in New York for a similar price, they were packed with fillings, and I never felt like it was a waste of money. Here, however, it feels overpriced. It’s surprising that they charge $16 for such skimpy portions. If I visit again, I’d probably just go for a bagel with cream cheese. The bread itself is chewy, but the bagels are much smaller compared to Essa. I don’t think this place deserves such high ratings.

Love supporting local cafes. Be aware they have a pretty limited, exclusively fish-based menu for sandwiches. I wish I’d seen their daily/seasonal specials before I ordered, but the restaurant is VERY dark and they were only listed on a small display after the cash register. Ultimately, I ended up getting a bagel with cream cheese and was disappointed by the pretty small amount of cream cheese and the fact that it seemed to be whipped or something, because it was pretty liquidy. My partner found the lox sandwich to be ‘fine.’

Such a cute place with nice outdoor seating. Loved the atmosphere but my food wasn’t good. I got a sesame bagel with lox and capers and my lox were super fishy tasting and the bagel was burnt. I hope I don’t get sick. My husband got the bagel veggie sandwich which was actually pretty tasty. The bagels in general were very chewy, probably because they didn’t toast them. They should really ask whether you want your bagel toasted.

I had the Lox bagel sandwich, my kids each had a plain bagel no cream cheese and my husband had a plain bagel with cream cheese. We all loved them. The house cured salmon was delish! I would say, personal opinion here, that this place is more expensive than our other bagel eating locations. Aside from that the atmosphere is great, service was incredibly friendly. My only wish would be that they put a menu on a larger board so you can see what they offer prior to arriving at the checkout. I’m super indecisive and don’t enjoy the pressure of not knowing what I want with people waiting in line behind me. Again, this is a total personal preference. Our experience was great and I am looking forward to going back for the other salmon bagel.

So I am on a mission to find my personal best bagel in Seattle, so naturally I ended up here to check it out. I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and lox, and it was very good. I think what they do right here are the bagel sandwiches with fish; I don’t know that I love the bagel on its own though. It is chewy and I know that is how some people like them that way, but I want more bite with each bite. I liked Old Salt, but not sure if there’s enough to bring me back.

Tasty, not really the big fat soft yet chewy NY style bagels (still hunting for those in Seattle), but reminded me more of those Montreal-style bagels. Would go back for the Veggie sandwich – so delicious and refreshing. Perfectly pickled veg and pairs well with the black sesame bagel.
Kippered salmon sandwich was a bit on the salty side.
