Absolutely worth the stop!
Yummy sandwiches that hit the spot — we tried the Meat Lover and the Old Mag Club, and both were chef’s kiss. Looks like a sweet little family-run spot, and you can taste the love in every bite.
Oh, and the brownies? To. Die. For.
If you’re passing through, trust me — pull over and treat yourself.

What a delightful lunch stop! City construction made it a little difficult to get to, but it is definitely worth navigating to get here! First off, it’s in a vendor mall, so you can shop while you wait. Next, come hungry because the portions are huge and the food is delicious. Plus, we came on Free Brownie Friday; what could get better than that?!

Strolling through downtown Palestine, we were trying to find a place for lunch. Old Magnolia offered sandwich, soups, salads and wraps. We enjoyed our wraps and salad in the interesting setup of the diner. People were friendly and nice, and prices very reasonable.

I ordered a chicken salad sandwich meal that included a side (choice of bag of chips, potato salad or coleslaw). My bill was $12.60 which included a charge for water that you self-serve from, sitting in a plastic container on the counter. When it was ready, I found that the sandwich was made with bread that you get out of a standard grocery store loaf of bread. The chicken salad portion was a bit thin and not particularly/wow! tasteful. The potato salad did not appear ‘homemade’, but what I enjoyed most. All in all, a disappointing meal for the price. But I love the atmosphere of the place and I was with friends, so it still was a delightful visit. Cashier Alicia was nice and patient as I was unfamiliar with menu.

The French dip was amazing! I added onions and jalapeños. Gave it quite the kick, just what I was looking for. The beef was flavorful and the portion size was generous. Staff was extremely friendly and kind. Cure layout in the downtown area.
Wish they had lemons for my tea, or lemonade (I didn’t ask for lemonade, they may possess some).

This is probably the best club sandwich I’ve ever had. We had the broccoli and cheese spud as well and it was good! Service was amazing, The young man at the counter is sure going somewhere in life. It’s rarely to see someone that young that professional.

Best freakin’ sandwiches in town. Plus the tea is pretty good.

Tasty food. Choice of GF bread was small flat bread. Your own chicken salad (potato salad etc) are always the best, right? So be realistic about what tastes good to you. Really liked the bollio bread for my sandwich. Pickle on the side was the most sour I’ve ever had. Glad downtown has this place as an option.

If you are passing through Palestine on your way to Jefferson, the Magnolia Cafe is worth a stop, especially if you are looking for local color. When on a road trip, atmosphere trumps food. Half size sandwiches are a great way to save your calories for a special dinner. After lunch, take drive along Sycamore Street to view the majestic old houses. Or, stroll into the adjacent antique shop and pick up a vintage bird cage.

Went with family of 3 at 3:32pm during the Dogwood Festival. There was no greeting of welcome as the woman behind the counter stared at us. My child asked to try a spoon of the chicken salad. To which the woman replied, yes. Then she proceeded to tell us that only “cold plates ” were available after 3:30 as she had already closed down her stove/ hot plates/ ovens etc. However when looking on their large menu chalkboard she did not bother to instruct us that meant only COLD SANDWICHES off the entire, huge, display board were available. They could have had that written up on the board to be clear about what was available at what time. So we had one chicken salad sandwich, one ham and cheese sandwich and one only ham sandwich and 2 drinks. Our meal was a HUGE disappointment. Will not go back. Cannot recommend anyone to visit. It was really quite pitiful. My child can make a more appetizing cold sandwich than what we received. We were the only ppl in line at the time. You would think they could take the time to make a good appealing sandwich. Sad….
