5 stars!! Wow, Old Juan’s delivered big time! The molcajete was insane, sizzling hot stone bowl packed with grilled steak, shrimp, bacon-wrapped bites, chorizo, sausages, grilled zucchini ribbons, avocado, queso fresco, and that rich, smoky red sauce that coated everything perfectly. Presentation was next-level with the charred and steam. But the real standout was my wife’s chicken mole—tender chicken swimming in deep, complex sauce (chiles, chocolate, spices all balanced just right). It was —one of the best moles we’ve had. Portions are generous, flavors authentic, and the cozy cantina vibe (cacti walls, chill atmosphere) right near the beach makes it even better. Friendly service too. Must-try spot in Oceano—can’t wait to go back! ️

This is an older Mexican restaurant with a dated interior but great service and great good with large portions. Red and green salsa with wonderful chips were served right away with water. We had homemade tortilla soup, veggie enchiladas, a combo plate of chili relleno and chicken enchilada, and a mole enchilada plate. All were delicious and the portions were very generous. We will be back!

Great environment, tasty and fancy looking drinks and delicious food. The location is perfect as it is close to Pismo beach and we stopped by for lunch after an ATV trip at the dunes.

The server was friendly and kept checking on us for drinks and food. Serving size of the food was good.

We passed by the restaurant the night before and it was fairly busy with nicely decorated lights both inside and out.

Enough parking for everyone!

Old Juan’s Cantina is one of those restaurants our family keeps coming back to and it never disappoints. The food is consistently good — solid, flavorful Mexican cuisine that hits the spot every time. But let’s be honest, the margaritas alone are worth the trip. Some of the best on the Central Coast. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, which matters a lot when you’re dining out with three kids. It never feels chaotic or unwelcoming — just good vibes, good food, and a staff that makes you feel at home. If you’re looking for a reliable Mexican restaurant in San Luis Obispo that works for the whole family, Old Juan’s Cantina deserves a spot at the top of your list.

First time here and the service was already great, every staff was friendly and the whole entire restaurant is unique. Mostly I love to point out the retro vibe feeling and the wall art from every corner. They have some sort of shrine thats set up beautifully, the fake animals got me but I love it. Mainly the geometric style art near some tables is an eye cathcer for me. I had a quick appetizer and beers from draft. The beer was cold and its supposed to, because I’ve had some drafts thats not up to cold temp before on other bars. Overall, I love the restaurant and it was live on a normal weekday.

Best Mexican Restaurant I’ve been to in many years! Authentic Mexican food with a very large selection of tasty food! They also have some delicous vegan and vegetarian food. I had the Calabaza Tacos which are vegan friendly “(Three mini corn tortilla tacos filled with butternut squash, and corn drizzled with a coconut enchilada sauce, vegan friendly Mole sauce and vegan feta crumble. Garnished with cilantro”) which were absolutely fantastic! Can’t say enough about how tasty they were!

The service was great, they checked up on us a couple of times to see if we needed anything and to ask how everything was. The blended Margaritas were really nice! They have a great selection of Tequilas and a full bar in the restaurant.

Great atmosphere for inside or outside dining, very clean bathrooms (weird to mention, but important to me).

I’ll be moving down to south county this year and this will be a regular spot to eat for me, most definitely.

I very highly recommend Old Juan’s Cantina for couples, family, groups – they can accommodate all!

It was an excellent meal. Piping hot and fantastic flavor. Big enough portions to take leftovers home for another meal.

Chips were cold, food was barely warm, not tasty at all. Very disappointed. Margarita was good, but small for $14.00. Load inside even though we went early ish.

Good menu, has the regular items but also different items you might not expect. Had the Mexican veggie bowl, generous portion and very tasty. Tortilla chips and two salsas, red & green, were also brought to the table. Salsas were also tasty, maybe could use a bit more heat. Good service and the decor is a traditional Mexican theme, casual, comfortable, inviting. This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant in the five cities area.
