Old Fashioned Bakery is a long time favorite in the Beloit area. Great donuts, with a variety to choose from and fast and curtious service. Open early in the morning so you can stop and pick up some donuts and milk on your way to work, and you might as well grab a sandwich and something to drink for your lunch. My mom placed a order for my birthday cake that was picked up yesterday, only to open the cake and find HAIR on the inside .. totally disappointing and disgusting!! Safe to say, I had No birthday cake because of that. Someone was definitely not wearing a hairnet while handling food. Yuck.

I ordered unfrosted cut out cookies to be decorated at home. I was disappointed in the quality of the cookies and also the customer service when I called later to point out that they were not very impressive. I was basically told this is just what their cookies look like. They are 6 dollars a dozen. It is hard to even tell what the shapes are supposed to be. I expected more from such a highly rated local business. The photo includes stars and Christmas trees.

I used to think their doughnuts were good but I have come to realize over the years that all the fried products there have the same oxidized oil taste. The people who work there are sometimes rude and seem bothered to be serving you. I especially felt this way one time I really needed to urinate. I told them it was urgent and they wouldn’t let me use a bathroom. I certainly broke some speed limits and almost peed my pants on the way home. That left me with a bad enough feeling about the place that I never go there anymore. I know some REAL good bakeries in the Chicago area and this place could NEVER hold a candle to any of them. Now I just get my bakery goods when I travel into Chicago and freeze whatever I need to. Unfortunately, expectations are a lot lower out here. This store would never survive with real competition. Thanks and good luck if you have to pee when you’re in there!
