OLD DAD’S Hometown Kitchen

  4.3 – 84 reviews   • Restaurant

Since, 2003, Old Dad’s Hometown Kitchen has been serving up great food including wings, sandwiches and shrimp dishes mainly via catering and our food trucks. This is our first brick and mortar location. Plus, we have retained an acclaimed biscuit maker and will be serving up hearty old fashion breakfast in the morning. We have seating for 40 people and a completely redesigned space. There will be counter service, along with an expedited takeout window, where customers can order on a streamlined kiosk. This will be an optional feature, as anyone is welcome to order at the counter from an employee if they prefer. So stop by and enjoy a true Dawsonville tradition!

Don’t let its location detour you. A hidden gem with a tasty chicken sandwich and equally good wings. The ‘original’ wing flavor gives vibes of tangy mustard with a peppery kick. Fried pickles spears were good and WAY better than slices. The complimentary biscuits (leftover from b’fast) while we waited was a nice touch. Give it a shot if you’re in the area!

I don’t like doing negative reviews. I want there to be good dining choices in town and I want new restaurants to be successful. I also want them to be so good that you want to return.

Three of us ordered the tenders and wings combo here. All three of us got wings that were unquestionably overcooked. How they got past the kitchen thinking they were acceptable, we can’t imagine.

We thought maybe it was just the outside that might just a little crispy, but no. Three out of four of them were too dry to eat. And the wings were so tiny that they didn’t seem to be from chickens so much as baby chicks. None of us could remember

having wings this small. The french fries were simply OK, which considering how common fries are and how good they are at many other places, it was three disappointing items in a row.

Sometimes a meal is so disappointing that you don’t even bother telling the establishment because you have to conclude either they are so oblivious to what they’re serving that it won’t matter, or they know and just don’t care. In which case it also won’t matter. Either way, as customers were not going to care to tell them either. We just won’t return.

Yummmmyyy!!!! I Love wings and this is the best place. Especially because you can choose between skinny (crispy) or fat (extra juicy) wings!!! Im a skinny kinda person and the Mild sauce is Amazing!!!
Get them to-go or eat in.

Get in your car, bring your family and friends for a stop at Flavor Town. This place brings it!!!! If it was possible I would give the place a Supernova rating, it will erase your memory of every wing you have ever eaten and burn the memory of this experience to your hippocampus!

Very Disappointed
Our experience was far from impressive. To start, the staff appeared unprofessional and poorly trained. The food was overpriced, and to make matters worse, a bottled drink cost $4.00—with no refills.

After placing our order and sitting down, we were informed that they were out of mac and cheese—the one thing my daughter was willing to eat, and the main reason we chose to eat there. They then struggled to figure out how to process a refund, which added to the frustration.

We considered leaving but decided to stay and give the food a chance. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a mistake. The wings were so overcooked they were practically inedible, cooked down to the bone. The chicken tenders were nearly burnt. When I expressed concern to the cashier, she casually replied that while the tenders might look burnt, they “wouldn’t taste burnt.” I told her plainly: burnt is burnt—and yes, they did taste burnt.

I overheard one of the employees mention that the restaurant had been open for three months. If this is the level of service and quality they’re offering after that much time, I honestly don’t see how they’ll last another three. Even more surprising, she mentioned they’re planning to open four more locations. My advice: get this one right before expanding—otherwise, you’re setting yourself up for failure.

Let me paint a picture for you.
Frozen tundra. People took all the eggs and bread. Everyone is losing their mind. But then a food truck parked in my apartment complex and a light shining from the sky. It was meant to be. We proceed to make our trek with many others from the neighborhood. Everyone is cold and hungry. Ready for some fresh, hot delicious wings. Austin the snow day savior handled the line with grace and proceeded to bust out everyone’s orders with ease. The food was delicious and exactly what everyone needed. Not ashamed to say I made two snowy adventures to the truck this day. Both times he delivered with a smile on his face. Asked him how many people came and he responded “I think I’ve served the whole neighborhood at this point”. We have eaten at the physical location many times and clearly both deliver the same great quality. Thank you Austin and thank you old dads.

We were in town visiting family this weekend. We wanted wings. Family this is fairly new and haven’t tried it. We bought 50 wings of regular hot wings and a lot of sides to try. Listen, their hit wings are the best I have had in a very long time. They were quick. They were amazingly delicious. The fried pickles were so good. We couldn’t NOT eat wings, even after being full. They are amazing!! Thank you for existing!! Never gonna get wings elsewhere.

Five-Star Review for the Smallest, Mightiest Wings Ever Created
An award-winning critique of culinary minimalism

If you’ve ever wondered what it would feel like to order wings and receive a strong suggestion of poultry, look no further. These tiny wings—these whimsical, fairy-sized morsels of hope—have redefined what it means to be both delicious and emotionally confusing.

This was such a great experience! My family has eaten in restaurant and ordered take out service and these are our favorite wings in Dawsonville! The owner is so friendly and the staff has been nothing but accommodating any time we dine or order with Old Dad’s!! There is great menu variety and plenty of space for small and medium sized parties! The price is excellent for the quality and quantity food you receive! I can’t recommend this place enough!!

I’ve been going here for breakfast lately. It is very good food and large portions for the price! I especially want to recognize Cindy the red head with a great personality, she is non stop running back and forth and working so hard I think she is great! I highly recommend this restaurant!
