very authentic food with a wide variety of dishes. The portions are generous, and everything we ordered was flavorful and well-seasoned without being too oily. The service was friendly and the food came out quickly. definitely come back again.

They have really great noodle dishes here, and reminded me of the ones I had in my hometown. We ordered two other dishes and both were delicious. We will definitely come back!

Old Chengdu Cafe offers an authentic taste of Sichuan cuisine, known for its bold flavors, spicy dishes, and rich, aromatic broths. The menu features a variety of traditional Sichuan dishes, including fiery hot pots, flavorful stir-fries, and mouthwatering dumplings, all made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The heat level can be intense, but for those who enjoy bold, spicy flavors, it’s a true delight. The cozy atmosphere and attentive service make it a great place for both casual meals and family gatherings.

This is my new favorite Chinese restaurant in the Syracuse area. So far the Dry Noodle dish is my favorite. It’s a combination of the egg/tomato and pork noodle dishes. The name continues to confuse everyone I bring since the bowl is like 1/3 filled with some kind of broth, but I love the dish. The waiter is nice and answers any questions I’ve had. I’ll continue coming here in the future and look forward to trying a bunch of new dishes.

Great authentic Chinese. It’s hard to find authentic Chinese outside of larger cities like NYC but this place is fantastic. Sometimes I go to some restaurants and I rarely trust them to make quality traditional dishes well but this place gave me full trust in their menu!

Go with some friends and order everything to share. You’ll get great portions and a good variety of food! Definitely broaden your horizons and try some dishes you’ve never had before!

Over all a great spot with great food, large portions, and good prices.

The fried rice was pretty white and flavorless except for a strange taste which I couldn’t put my finger on.

The pork and bamboo was very salty but tasted okay. The box was a little light for $20.

Incorrect Tax Calculation on Takeout Order

I recently ordered four dishes for takeout from old chengdou. While the food was good, I noticed an issue with the receipt when I got home—the tax amount didn’t seem correct. After reviewing it, I couldn’t figure out how they calculated the total tax.

I recommend that the restaurant double-check its tax calculations to ensure accuracy for customers. It would also be helpful if the staff could provide a breakdown or clarification when asked.

Overall, I appreciate the food, but I hope this issue gets addressed to avoid confusion in the future

Food is ok. We ordered some Szechuan cuisine dishes and some noodle. Actually the cook is not from Szechuan province and he is more specialized in Shanxi noodles. He bought the restaurant from the previous owner who was specialized at Szechuan cuisine, but the new owner still wants to attract the old customers and he doesn’t want to change the food style of the restaurant. It is hard to tell if Szechuan food is good or not because the hot spicy flavor can hide the original flavor of the food material.

Another problem is that they charge transaction fee if you pay by credit. And they don’t tell you in advance. This is a kind of way to avoid some tax. If you pay by cash they don’t charge this kind of fee. This is not a professional way to do business.

Other Chinese restaurant normally will serve you some hot Chinese tea when you first seated, but this restaurant doesn’t. Only if you ask they would give you two cups of tap water.
