Stopped in for a meal while traveling in the area. Out of 2 meals, 1 was the “Well, I Declare ($23)” burger that topped the charts according to my partner for their list of burgers ever & the 2nd meal was “The Turkey ($15).” I was not nearly as impressed with this sandwich as the bacon was undercooked (even when originally requested to be extra well done) & the sourdough bread was much too small & not composed for the size of the sandwich. The pricing seemed a bit high IMO, but it wouldn’t have deterred us from trying a new place we’ve never been to. My partner had a flight that they were not too impressed with, but did enjoy the “Hey Girl Hey!” sour ale as the only thing on the menu worth noting, if that’s your style.
The environment was nice as an overall. They have a nice outside seating area with fire pits where they have occasional bands to play. The music inside was a bit loud for our liking, but we were able to be seated in the far back room, which was much quieter.
Our waitress stated she was fairly new, so she was very unknowledgeable on the food & drink menus, which could be expected of a new person, but her friendly & honest attitude made up for it.
Food picture was an afterthought of the burger once it was half eaten & placed in a to-go container.

The fried green tomatoes are served with pimento and hot pepper and bacon jam. My favorite way to eat the chicken and waffles is to pour the syrup over the waffles, stack the chicken on that, and pour the hot sauce on the fried chicken. The waffles are crispy outside and tender inside. The chicken is juicy with thick, crispy, well seasoned fried batter exterior. The Roaming Bear porter is well balanced and deliciously dry. The service is friendly, quick, and attentive.

Old Black Bear Brewing was recommended to me by coworkers who live here while I was in Madison for work. Hands down one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. I got the burger with peanut butter, spicy bacon jam and fresh sliced jalapeños. Absolutely delicious and hits every craving for a great burger. Their vodka was great as well. The bartenders were super friendly and helpful with menu suggestions and I was not disappointed at all. Would one hundred percent recommend coming here for an excellent and creative burger.

Excellent beers and burgers, and great staff. One of those cool find places for us, we were just passing through Alabama on our way to Florida and staying at one of the hotels off I-65 in Athens. Definitely check this place out.

The best classic buffalo wings in town. Crispy, juicy, saucey, well seasoned, and the right level of heat. You’ll be sniffling a little before it’s over. And the fries are crispy. I split the flavors and got lemon pepper too. Really good.

Love this place!! Our server was awesome and incredibly helpful with suggestions. They tweaked their espresso martini for me so it wasn’t as sweet and it was delicious! And the food?!? The sausage gravy and biscuits with their fried chicken thigh and eggs on top was so tasty. Easily one of the best brunches you’ll ever have! I want to go back already!

Kenslie and Taylor were amazing! I brought my pups in for a little burger date and sat outside, and they were the sweetest! It started as a solo date with the dogs, but I ended up having great company thanks to these ladies. Thank you for making us feel so welcomed!

We live in Owen’s Crossroads and ventured out to run a few places and brave the traffic in Madison.
We decided before heading home to grab lunch.
When we arrived we put our name on the list with a 30 to 40 minute wait for a table.
My husband wanted a drink so we decided to sit at the bar.
Once we sat down we decided to just order our food from the bar.
We got the loaded bar chips for an appetizer, my husband got the Well I declare burger and I got The Original burger and added my toppings.
Our appetizer took 25 minutes to come out and our food another 35 or so.
Appetizer was good, our entrees were not, and we chose to have them taken off our check since we weren’t able to even eat them.
My husband’s burger was still raw in the middle, our fries were barely warm, and the underneath of my bun was over toasted and burnt.
They offered to remake them and we said no, since we had already been there for well over an hour at this point.
Bar tender was great and it wasn’t her fault.
Before sending the food it would be a good idea to take a better look and say would I eat this if it was being served to me?
Got home and my husband actually got sick from the appetizer.
Manager never came to apologize etc.
We normally give places a second try but not this one.
Very disappointing and we won’t be back.

Stopped in for a beer with my wife. Ended up with taking out burgers and took home a couple 32 oz growlers. Service and beer was great, the burgers (bbq and turkey sandwich) were top notch in size and flavor, and properly cooked (fries were great too). We have been to the Madison spot, and here in Athens once before. Definitely would go again!

This is my watering hole – a literal 10/10 every single time. They take care of you, have the best atmosphere, the best food, and the best drinks. Anna as the GM is absolutely the right and BEST choice to run the place.
Favorite foods include Steak on Mondays (great deal for some great food), lemon dill salmon on the cedar plank, wings – anyway you can get them, Brussels, onion straws, the shrimp app and the steak tacos.
You really can’t go wrong. New drink menu is FIRE and I LOVE the creativity – but the smoked old fashioned is always a good fallback.
It really doesn’t get better than here. Check it out and prove me wrong!
