My father & I were looking for a cozy diner off “our beaten path” and we were not disappointed! We had our sights set on breakfast as it is served all day. However, my interest was piqued when I spied liver & onions on the menu. I tentatively inquired of our server the quality and dad & I both enjoyed this tender-cooked liver dish thoroughly. I asked for extra onions too. The only thing that may have made this delicious dinner 5+ star would have been if I had requested extra caramelized onions. Their sweet potato fries were amazing too.

Our server was very customer oriented and attentive to our needs.

Wow! Quite the hidden gem. Cute litter diner-style restaurant with excellent food and great service. Most of the customers were repeat customers. I can see why. I had the Reuben which was a great surprise. The meat was actually sliced off of a corned beef brisket instead of lunchmeat. It was excellent! Highly recommend!

A great cozy diner environment and very friendly staff, recommend the chicken fried steak or the omelette with fresh fruit.

We go hear monthly for our dudes’ breakfast hangouts. Unique is the best waitress ever!! Food is always in point, coffee kept hot throughout, service is top notch, and it’s one of the last truly mom and pop diners in the area.

Go eat here! That’s an order!… okay more of a lawful suggestion, but you won’t be disappointed!

Jamie was our waitress. She was super friendly and helpful. Breakfast specials that was Kabasa served over country potatoes and two over easy eggs and toast. For $10. Taste was there. It had peppers and onions in there as well. Which really complimented everything else. Basically it was delicious. My stomach is happy once again. Gypsy smiles got the lunch special which was a pork steak. Served with vegetables and mashed potatoes. It looked great. Will return.

I had one of the most uncomfortable and unwelcoming dining experiences I’ve ever had at Old 56.
We had the pregnant waitress with the blonde hair and the really strange attitude.
From the moment we sat down, it felt like we were being treated differently—and not in a good way. Before we even received our food, we were already handed the check. Let that sink in: the ticket arrived before we even started eating. That alone sent a very clear message—you’re not welcome, hurry up and leave.
Dining out is supposed to be relaxed. This was the opposite. The entire interaction felt rushed, cold, and frankly discriminatory. When you’re given the bill before your meal hits the table, it’s hard not to interpret that as an intentional push to get you out as quickly as possible. No explanation, no courtesy, no attempt at basic hospitality.
Whether it was how we looked, who we were, or simply that we didn’t fit whatever “preferred” customer profile they had in mind, the treatment was blatant enough to be uncomfortable. I’ve eaten at plenty of places—this was the first time I felt so clearly unwanted while still technically being served.
If you value being treated with respect, dignity, and basic human decency while you eat, I’d strongly recommend taking your money elsewhere. No food is worth feeling judged, rushed, or subtly pushed out the door before you’ve even had a chance to enjoy it.

This restaurant truly feels like a home away from home. The food tastes just like a home-cooked meal—fresh, comforting, and made with care.

Portions are generous, prices are very reasonable, and the service is warm, friendly, and attentive. You can tell the staff genuinely care about their customers.

The homemade pies are a must-try and the perfect way to end the meal. If you’re looking for great value, excellent service, and delicious homemade food, this place is well worth a visit.

This is a hidden gem restaurant in Olathe . We had the Smothered Chicken and Chicken Fried Steak with pepsi and sweet tea. The chicken was fresh and country gravy was all over the steak and mashed potato , may be thats the usual but it tasted good to me . My husband had the smothered chicken he said it was filled with flavours a dash of citrus with creamy mushroom along with the grilled chicken. The entire place have car decoration and it was bursting with happy families .I loved the place and would go again.

Never been here before. It was a nice little diner. A little pricey though. Two eggs, pancakes ( regular size)and two pieces of bacon ( nothing special really), plus a bacon cheeseburger and onion rings( bought to go) was around 40.00. Pancakes had a nice taste , burger was big and tasty. The server was nice n friendly. They are only open til 2. Might be back for lunch sometime. Maybe
