Ola’s Southern Cuisine 2 business is based off love and family. We were taught to cook with love and sit at the table with family and eat. Ola is my late grandmother name that will be carried on for generations through us. A quote I often remember her saying when we walk in the kitchen when she was cooking was “Get yo ass out the kitchen. Don’t you see me cooking”. I know it was all love because she opened her kitchen to me and taught me the importance of cooking. She is the reason I know love is an important ingredient when preparing, cooking, and serving others. We are keen on great customer service, time management, and flavorful food. We pride ourselves on preparing and serving people with great quality food.

Walking into Ola’s in an otherwise secluded strip mall, your nose arouses your senses to the feast to come, soul music plays in the background, the Big Kahuna Wing Festival winning trophy proudly sits in the corner. Take your time ordering at the front counter as the cashier patiently explains the dishes and offers suggestions.
Buttery, fried lemon pepper chicken, fresh collard greens, crispy fried okra, and creamy mac and cheese all deliver, but the real star here is the cornbread. Normally not a fan for being too dry, this is more like a corn cake. Order twice as much as you think you’d eat and keep the rest for later. All served by the friendliest people you’d ever met, this place is a treasure.
Ola may not have made it to see the restaurant open that would be her namesake, but her grandson has built something that would have have made her proud.
The chef came out to talk with us and make sure we were enjoying everything—genuinely hospitable and incredibly friendly. We’re already looking forward to going back and trying the rest of the menu. This place is the final boss of hidden gems.
The owners are absolutely amazing — warm, genuine, and welcoming in a way you rarely find anymore. They treat you like family the second you step through the door. You can tell they care about their customers and their community, and that energy shows in every plate they serve.
The food? Unreal. Real Southern flavor, cooked with heart, seasoned perfectly, and served hot and fresh. It’s the kind of meal that makes you stop mid-bite and say “Oh yeah… THIS is it.”
If you’re looking for comfort, quality, and a true Southern dining experience, you won’t find anything better. Do yourself a favor and try this place NOW run — you’ll thank yourself later. This is officially one of my new favorite spots in Tennessee, and I’ll be back every time I’m in town.
You’re probably wondering why the ‘2’, right? We were thinking the same thing and had to ask. Apparently, the 2 comes from the fact this is their second time creating this business! The first one was a catering business based out of Atlanta. If them being originally from Atlanta tells you anything, it should tell you how amazing the wings are.
As soon as you walk in, the place immediately gave me the vibe that I was in the right place, that I was home. We were eagerly greeted and walked through the menu as first-time enjoyers. 10/10 customer service across the board. The person helping us was incredibly patient, enthusiastic, and welcoming. My friend got the normal wing plate with mac n cheese and cornbread. I ordered the Jamaican Jerk Jolly Rancher 8 piece wings with mac n cheese and collared greens. You read that correctly, JAMAICAN JERK JOLLY RANCHER. Now I will be honest, the price is not as cheap as you’d expect, but you will gladly pay it and it’ll be money well spent.
After ordering, we were told that the wings are fried fresh to order so it may take a second, wasn’t a problem for us and we appreciate the communication. As we waited, we found the pool table and the table full of cards/board games were fantastic for keeping us entertained. More so, the whole interior design is so entertaining and interesting to look at. The VOLs men’s basketball team poster, the photos of all the patrons, and the decorated spot where patrons stood to get their photos taken were all fascinating. Apparently, Ola’s is consistently loved by all UT athletes and I believe it.
Now we get to the good part, the food. You could not believe how much I was salivating when I opened our boxes. The wings were both incredibly crispy and fall off the bone. The jamaican jollyrancher wings are a true testiment to how the chef who thinks of this stuff is both thinking out of the box but very logically and methodically. The addition of the jolly ranchers adds a sweetness and acidity that balance the spicy and savoury of a jamaican jerk sauce. The use of jolly ranchers adds more than just a fun alliteration, it adds a distinct artifical fruitiness that works so well. It satisfied all of my taste buds and I can’t wait to order it again and try more of their unique flavor profiles. The mac n cheese was perfection. 10/10, it is the mac n cheese I dream about ever since. It had the crispy top and gooey cheesy interior. I’m not totally sure but I have my suspicions that it’s a traditional southern baked mac n cheese using egg and evaporated milk but there’s is 100% above the rest that I’ve enjoyed. Most baked mac n cheeses tend to not have cheese pulls and can sometimes be dry (IMO) but theirs was perfection. I could come here just for the mac again. The collard greens and cornbread were both fantastic as well, though the mac n cheese does overshadow them a little. I would order EVERYTHING that I had again and I can’t wait to try the rest of the menu. You can tell how much we enjoyed the food by the empty plate.
Before we left, we had to ask to get our photo on the wall and surprisingly they obliged! I will definitely be back soon with my loved ones to share with them the experience that I enjoyed myself so much, and to also see myself up on that wall. To think that I found this place on a whim and it may be my new favorite restuarant in Knoxville?
10/10 would recommend
Y’all, if I could give this place 10 stars, I would do it. The food, the people, and the vibes just comes with love. Uganda and Chef Black were freaking awesome, down to earth, and you could tell they simply love doing what they do. I had the fried catfish, fried okra, mac & cheese, cabbage, collard greens, and chef black gave me a sample of his rice and gravy, which is what’s in the little soufflé cup. Oh, and that cornbread you see right there, is like freaking heaven. Do yourself a favor, don’t listen to the naysayers and just go.
One important thing. Please make sure that you check their hours on Google before you make the drive. They change weekly!!!!!!!
Thank you Uganda and Chef Black for such an amazing first visit. I will see y’all on Sunday for some Oxtail!!!!
