Social Profile:

Ola’s Southern Cuisine 2 business is based off love and family. We were taught to cook with love and sit at the table with family and eat. Ola is my late grandmother name that will be carried on for generations through us. A quote I often remember her saying when we walk in the kitchen when she was cooking was “Get yo ass out the kitchen. Don’t you see me cooking”. I know it was all love because she opened her kitchen to me and taught me the importance of cooking. She is the reason I know love is an important ingredient when preparing, cooking, and serving others. We are keen on great customer service, time management, and flavorful food. We pride ourselves on preparing and serving people with great quality food.

You can live in Knoxville for 20 years and think you really know the place, but every now and again it can still surprise you. Chef Blaac honors his upbringing by sharing his grandmother Ola’s recipes for the hungry masses, yearning to be full.

Walking into Ola’s in an otherwise secluded strip mall, your nose arouses your senses to the feast to come, soul music plays in the background, the Big Kahuna Wing Festival winning trophy proudly sits in the corner. Take your time ordering at the front counter as the cashier patiently explains the dishes and offers suggestions.

Buttery, fried lemon pepper chicken, fresh collard greens, crispy fried okra, and creamy mac and cheese all deliver, but the real star here is the cornbread. Normally not a fan for being too dry, this is more like a corn cake. Order twice as much as you think you’d eat and keep the rest for later. All served by the friendliest people you’d ever met, this place is a treasure.

Ola may not have made it to see the restaurant open that would be her namesake, but her grandson has built something that would have have made her proud.

We were supposed to be heading back home to South Carolina, but we ended up staying until 1 PM just so we could get some food from Ola’s Cuisine and it was so worth it. Mr. Black is an incredible cook. You can taste the love and skill he puts into every dish. The food felt like home, comforting and full of flavor. The staff was warm and welcoming, and the whole experience made us glad we stayed. It’s not often you find a place that makes you change your plans just to enjoy one more meal, but Ola’s did that for us. I’m truly grateful we stopped by, and I’d do it again without hesitation.

From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, I was captivated by its warm and inviting atmosphere. The music was a perfect blend of classic R&B that instantly made me feel at home. The owners were incredibly welcoming and social, making my family and me feel like valued guests. Their genuine southern hospitality was truly impressive. While we waited for our made-to-order meals, we enjoyed great music, played free games, and even shot some pool. When our food arrived, the owners checked in on us to ensure everything was to our liking. They even surprised my baby niece with complimentary potato wedges, which she loved. The food was outstanding, with my niece particularly enjoying the cornbread, yams, and mac and cheese. I savored every bite of my southern chicken meal, complete with mac and cheese, greens, yams, and cornbread. My brother’s fried lobster tail and specialty wings were also a hit. What truly impressed me was the absence of pork from the menu, a refreshing change. Our first visit exceeded expectations, and we’re already looking forward to returning. The restaurant’s $5 BYOB and free karaoke are an added bonus. My sister is already planning her birthday celebration there next month, and I couldn’t be more excited. As a native of Knoxville, TN, I can confidently say that this restaurant serves some of the best southern cuisine I’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying.

Everyone has stories about their grandma’s cooking or how unbeatable their mama’s cornbread is. But tonight was on an entirely different level. Every single dish we ordered was the best we’ve ever had. It’s honestly hard to believe we hadn’t discovered this place sooner.

The chef came out to talk with us and make sure we were enjoying everything—genuinely hospitable and incredibly friendly. We’re already looking forward to going back and trying the rest of the menu. This place is the final boss of hidden gems.

If you’re in Knoxville — or even passing through — you need to stop at Ola’s Southern Cuisine 2. When I say better than thanksgiving I mean it. This isn’t just another restaurant… this is a full experience. The moment you walk in, you can feel the love, pride, and soul poured into everything they do.

The owners are absolutely amazing — warm, genuine, and welcoming in a way you rarely find anymore. They treat you like family the second you step through the door. You can tell they care about their customers and their community, and that energy shows in every plate they serve.

The food? Unreal. Real Southern flavor, cooked with heart, seasoned perfectly, and served hot and fresh. It’s the kind of meal that makes you stop mid-bite and say “Oh yeah… THIS is it.”

If you’re looking for comfort, quality, and a true Southern dining experience, you won’t find anything better. Do yourself a favor and try this place NOW run — you’ll thank yourself later. This is officially one of my new favorite spots in Tennessee, and I’ll be back every time I’m in town.

Absolutely amazing!! If you’re needing something filling, flavorful and delicious this is the place you should go without question! The staff, while limited in numbers, they offer quality service. And though the ambiance doesn’t scream a fine dining outing, it certainly delivers your taste buds and experience that made me know this was grandma’s recipes in the kitchen!

I genuinely believe that if the Axis and Allied powers could’ve successfully sat down for a meal at this establishment, they would’ve figured it out without a single life lost. A meal like this makes you forget about what drives you apart from others, what differences we may have, and what personal struggles a person may have. That’s how transcending my experience at Ola’s Southern Cuisine 2 was… but I’ll get into that later.

You’re probably wondering why the ‘2’, right? We were thinking the same thing and had to ask. Apparently, the 2 comes from the fact this is their second time creating this business! The first one was a catering business based out of Atlanta. If them being originally from Atlanta tells you anything, it should tell you how amazing the wings are.

As soon as you walk in, the place immediately gave me the vibe that I was in the right place, that I was home. We were eagerly greeted and walked through the menu as first-time enjoyers. 10/10 customer service across the board. The person helping us was incredibly patient, enthusiastic, and welcoming. My friend got the normal wing plate with mac n cheese and cornbread. I ordered the Jamaican Jerk Jolly Rancher 8 piece wings with mac n cheese and collared greens. You read that correctly, JAMAICAN JERK JOLLY RANCHER. Now I will be honest, the price is not as cheap as you’d expect, but you will gladly pay it and it’ll be money well spent.

After ordering, we were told that the wings are fried fresh to order so it may take a second, wasn’t a problem for us and we appreciate the communication. As we waited, we found the pool table and the table full of cards/board games were fantastic for keeping us entertained. More so, the whole interior design is so entertaining and interesting to look at. The VOLs men’s basketball team poster, the photos of all the patrons, and the decorated spot where patrons stood to get their photos taken were all fascinating. Apparently, Ola’s is consistently loved by all UT athletes and I believe it.

Now we get to the good part, the food. You could not believe how much I was salivating when I opened our boxes. The wings were both incredibly crispy and fall off the bone. The jamaican jollyrancher wings are a true testiment to how the chef who thinks of this stuff is both thinking out of the box but very logically and methodically. The addition of the jolly ranchers adds a sweetness and acidity that balance the spicy and savoury of a jamaican jerk sauce. The use of jolly ranchers adds more than just a fun alliteration, it adds a distinct artifical fruitiness that works so well. It satisfied all of my taste buds and I can’t wait to order it again and try more of their unique flavor profiles. The mac n cheese was perfection. 10/10, it is the mac n cheese I dream about ever since. It had the crispy top and gooey cheesy interior. I’m not totally sure but I have my suspicions that it’s a traditional southern baked mac n cheese using egg and evaporated milk but there’s is 100% above the rest that I’ve enjoyed. Most baked mac n cheeses tend to not have cheese pulls and can sometimes be dry (IMO) but theirs was perfection. I could come here just for the mac again. The collard greens and cornbread were both fantastic as well, though the mac n cheese does overshadow them a little. I would order EVERYTHING that I had again and I can’t wait to try the rest of the menu. You can tell how much we enjoyed the food by the empty plate.

Before we left, we had to ask to get our photo on the wall and surprisingly they obliged! I will definitely be back soon with my loved ones to share with them the experience that I enjoyed myself so much, and to also see myself up on that wall. To think that I found this place on a whim and it may be my new favorite restuarant in Knoxville?

10/10 would recommend

Anyone that has given this restaurant less than five stars does not know what they’re talking about and are entitled. They should just stick with fast food.

Y’all, if I could give this place 10 stars, I would do it. The food, the people, and the vibes just comes with love. Uganda and Chef Black were freaking awesome, down to earth, and you could tell they simply love doing what they do. I had the fried catfish, fried okra, mac & cheese, cabbage, collard greens, and chef black gave me a sample of his rice and gravy, which is what’s in the little soufflé cup. Oh, and that cornbread you see right there, is like freaking heaven. Do yourself a favor, don’t listen to the naysayers and just go.

One important thing. Please make sure that you check their hours on Google before you make the drive. They change weekly!!!!!!!

Thank you Uganda and Chef Black for such an amazing first visit. I will see y’all on Sunday for some Oxtail!!!!

My husband and I had plans on Valentine’s Day that fell through and a friend suggested we try Ola’s Southern Cuisine. Hands down, this was the best experience and I’m so glad that we went. The food was a fantastic presentation of flavor, soul, and skill! The atmosphere was fun and we even got to play Connect 4 while we waited for our food. The food was amazing and the chef came to ask us how everything was when we were done. We will be going back as this was one of best culinary experiences that we have had from South Knoxville in quite some time.

Drove an hour and a half to check this place out, easily the best food and experience I have had in Knoxville thus far! I brought my family who was visiting and upon entering we were greeted with genuine smiles from everyone there. The kind ladies behind the counter gave us a warm greeting and asked about our drive. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and I’m sure it was because they had sold out of the catfish, salmon and a few other things by 3 pm and we got there at 4. But don’t let that discourage you, we ordered the chicken and waffles, lobster tail, and chichi wings with sides of cornbread, Mac n cheese and yams. The chicken was juicy, perfectly fried and seasoned, and paired amazingly with the waffles which were covered in just the right amount of a home made frosting that acted both as a powdered sugar and maple syrup. The cornbread was moist and sweet, baked evenly and drizzled with honey on top. The chi chi wings were crispy and every inch was covered in this delicious, buttery home made red sauce that tasted like a combination of Texas Pete and something only an experienced chef could conjure. I almost pulled out a straw and started sipping on the left over wing sauce it was so yummy, and it has a little kick but not too much. The Mac n cheese was stellar, made with REAL cheese, none of us could stop eating it. The yams tasted natural and real, good mashed texture and was also super yummy with the icing that came out with the waffles. The lobster tail, what can I say? Spectacular, extremely satisfying and good sized pieces that came with a lovely home made buttery, seasoned sauce. All food came out hot and there wasn’t a single bite that didn’t exceed our expectations. We tried the “smothered in love” dish which was akin to a hearty chicken gravy over top of white rice, and we also tried the red velvet waffle that was moist and decadent. Not only was the food that we ordered out of this world, but they also spoiled us and went above and beyond. The atmosphere and music was great, the people were amazing, and I would 100% go back to this restaurant every time I am in Knoxville. The chef and his wife both came over to talk to us. The restaurant is named after the chef’s grandmother Ola to honor her and everything she taught him about cooking. He was also a chef for the military for 9 years and traveled all over the world supporting our troops and keeping them fed. This is a family owned and operated business, run by amazing people that you can easily tell have beautiful souls. This is the only food review I have ever done because they are absolutely worth it. Thank you so much to the family at Ola’s for taking such good care of us! We hope to see you soon!
