This restaurant is the biggest cap, catfish whatever you want to call it. Yams are most definitely canned and not “candied” at all!!! As you can see, the side of rice not pictured was hard with a teaspoon of gravy to the point I couldn’t barely see the gravy at all it was dripped in the middle of the rice. “Lambchops” was deep fried and oily…Mac was half way decent they had no desserts or drinks to order from…..a pure mess don’t waste your coins. Your welcome.

Food did come fast however the sweet potatoes were not sweet at all not good just taste like mash potatoes and the turkey wings were a nice size but they were dry even after they did give me gravy on the side. Lastly the mac and cheese wasn’t bad, but it could’ve used some more cheese. Nice amount of food in the platter.

The Mac was soooo dry it was crazy. Yams gave canned vibes and had no flavor. Cabbage were pretty salty but it was ok. The only thing that was even room temperature were the hot honey wings. They were ok, but I got a bone that was sauced but had no meat.

I had the wings cabbage and Mac. It was great! I loved it the guys at the counter were nice and respectful as well. My only gripe is that they are selling the save a lot tea mix for $3 a bottle, they outta pocket for that you must be paying for the bottle because that tea mix isn’t worth more than a Arizona iced tea. I couldn’t believe my taste buds when I tasted that tea mix, and I knew it was that for a fact because I just had it at my house before coming out to eat! Other than that everything else was amazing I will be back but I will not be having that homemade tea.

During a recent visit to Philadelphia, I stumbled upon a place that felt like a slice of home — Ol’ Boys Soul Food, tucked away at 5148 Locust Street in West Philly. From the moment I arrived the rich aroma of seasoned goodness and slow-cooked comfort filled the air.

Their Southern fried chicken was golden, crispy, and tender inside — just the way it should be. The fried whiting, tilapia, and shrimp were cooked with a master’s touch, flavorful and satisfying. Every side dish was a hit at my family’s table: baked mac and cheese oozing with cheesy perfection, collard greens and cabbage cooked just right, and potato salad that tasted like it came straight from a family reunion picnic. And that cornbread — moist, sweet, and buttery — tied the whole meal together.

The service was fast, friendly, and genuine, making the experience even better. In a city known for cheesesteaks and pretzels, Ol’ Boys brings something different — a soulful reminder that Southern cooking isn’t about fancy plates, but about heart, heritage, and flavor that lingers long after the last bite.

The food was terrible. The sweet potatoes weren’t cooked through. They were hard. The Mac and cheese was not tasty. They are stingy with the fish. My mom didn’t get her potato salad and her collard greens were bad. I didn’t even ask my grandmother about her food. What for? There are better soul food restaurants.

I drove past this spot a few months ago and finally gave them a try. Omg the food was good down to the bone!!! I had turkey wings, mac, and, potaoe salad and cabbage. The gentleman at the front, was so nice and the wait was not bad at all!!! The prices are so reasonable I can’t wait to try their other items.

I ordered through DoorDash and it came up to almost $50 and that includes the $5 tip to the dasher. My real price was $38.50 for two platters and 2 extra sides.

2 Whiting fish platters with candied yams and cabbage. Portions for everything was small-medium in my opinion but I am also 5 months pregnant so I am a bit greedy right now . Everything was seasoned well, perfect I think for anyone’s taste buds. If you still like soul food that gives you high cholesterol or diabetes this ain’t for you. I felt fed and comfortable after my platter.

The extra sides I got were the Mac & cheese and yams for my son and they both were delicious but for $4 I was expecting the container to be full. Maybe I need to go in person too because they forgot my cornbread. Overall great food so thank you.

Someone grand mom need to revamp the recipe. Where is the nutmeg? Cinnamon? Vanilla extract? Lemon extract? Brown sugar? Butter? It taste like some gooey candy with yams in it. Soon as I smelled it I knew how it was going to taste
