Trendy atmosphere with fresh and flavorful dishes. The omakase with saki pairing was absolutely delicious and well rounded with fantastic service. Highly recommend for an adventurous food experience from beginning to end. Located on a random roundabout in Carmel, this restaurant is a gem. They’ve mastered the art of fine dining and bridged the gap in brining authentic international ingredients to the Midwest.
The food was so good, I forgot to photograph 3 dishes including the wagu beef finale. Cocktails are refreshing and on point. Jackson is a true mixologist.

We visited Okonori this weekend to try something new, and it truly offers a dining style that stands out from most places in Indianapolis. The space is modern, warm, and beautifully designed the atmosphere alone makes the visit worthwhile.

The food follows a more traditional and authentic Japanese approach, clean, delicate preparations that highlight the natural flavors of each ingredient, especially the fish. The presentation is minimalistic and very refined. This is not the typical American-style Japanese food with heavy sauces or intense flavors, everything here is lighter, more subtle, and intentionally served just as the chef prepares it.

It’s a different kind of dining experience, ideal for those who appreciate a more faithful expression of Japanese cuisine. I enjoyed it and would like to return to explore more of their menu and enjoy the beautiful ambiance again.

Update: returned today for lunch and had the opportunity to try additional things from the menu now that they have had their grand opening and added more options. The nigiri was on point but everything we had was good.

Had dinner during the soft open (first day) and it was good even though they are currently on a limited menu. The atmosphere is fantastic and I’m excited to return once they get fully up and running. So glad to have an upscale Japanese restaurant in the area!

I’ve traveled to many places around the world, but this restaurant is truly one of a kind. The atmosphere is upscale and classy, and walking inside feels like stepping onto the set of a modern movie. Guests arrive dressed up, and the food is genuinely authentic- prepared by Japanese chefs who come especially from New York!!

The owners, Kimmie and Alex, have an incredible vision and attention to detail that few could match. We feel honored and privileged to be part of their community.

If you want to celebrate a birthday or any special occasion, they will arrange everything and make sure you have the best experience.

They host special events, including live music on December 10th and 17th from 6–9 PM—and even more musical nights planned for next year.

For first-time visitors—the design will take your breath away.
For professionals—it sparks inspiration.
For everyone—it’s an unforgettable experience created with heart.

Absolutely one of my top places to visit

The aesthetic of this Japanese restaurant is absolutely jaw-dropping —but the food was somehow even better. The edamame was hands down the best I’ve ever had, and the miso eggplant was incredible. The sushi and yudon noodles were just as delicious and perfectly executed. Even the bathroom was so gorgeous it deserved a mention in this review! Truly a 10/10 experience from start to finish.

The place looks gorgeous and you feel immediately good and fancy being there.

The service was ok and I appreciate the effort. They try to make people feel taking care and served well.

The disappointment was the food.
We knew it would not be cheap. Checking on Google before going it was clear that is was a +100 restaurant and the menu is available on line.

The problem is that the food doesn’t meet the expectations and it is overpriced.

The Soto hotate were very good and also tofu.
The eggplant was almost impossible to eat with chopsticks. I will raccomend you to order it just to have a laugh at the table as see non conventional ways people will find to get to eat it!

The fish of the nigiri was amazing and if we go back I am going to order only nigiri !

The most disappointing was the sushi.
Presentation of the plate beautiful, but the rolls were warm…
The rice is soft and dampened in soia. That is way the color is so dark. The waiter explained this to us, that they cure the rice to make it flavory and soya taste. “This way you don’t have to damp the roll into soia sauce, but just eat it.”

And I can see this can be an idea.
I love to try new things

In this case I prefer the normal cold white rice and use the soy sauce on the little plate. Is part of the sushi experience that I will not change, now that I have tried this different method.

The thing most disappointing was that the rice being warm was cooking the fish on top. You con see in the last picture…

The hot tea was very good.

It is a new restaurant and I am sure they will do better in the future.

Ps. As other people are saying the still water is $10 a bottle and they don’t ask you if you want tab or bottle. Coming from Europe this is normal for us. There is not the option of the free tab water at restaurants, so this thing didn’t bother me.

Unbelievably wonderful experience. From the food and staff, we were blown away. We enjoyed the Omakase experience. Note: we’ve had many omakase globally and this was by far one of the best. What an absolute gem of a restaurant to choose Indiana. You have to know good sushi to appreciate the excellence. We cannot wait to return!

First of all, the atmosphere was beautiful and high-class, yet comfortable and welcoming. We sat at the bar rail and the seats were very comfortable, as was the bar itself. The staff and bartenders were over the top friendly and courteous. They made it quite clear that they were very proud of their work, the drinks, and the food they served. Our drinks were perfect. As for the food; as a foodie and self-proclaimed “sushi-snob” I have to say I’ve never tasted anything like it. The Blue-fin sashimi was the best my wife or I have ever had, and everything else we tried was unbelievably good, right down to the fresh-ground wasabi, and house cut and pickled ginger. We didn’t want to leave, but had to show some form of self-control. We made the 2 hour drive from Ft. Wayne just to try this place out (and to surprise my beautiful wife with a nice weekend getaway) and it was well worth it. I’m looking forward to going back. FYI, it wasn’t cheap, but you get what you pay for.

We were so disappointed with the food at this restaurant… We really wanted a good high-end upscale Asian restaurant on the north side to go to! The food was disappointing and bland. We started with the agedashi tofu which was served with a sweet chili sauce (think chicken nugget sauce) not the traditional tsuyu sauce agedashi tofu is served with. I got a Yūgen cocktail, which is a house special, it is supposed to have sake infused with rose, rosemary, thyme, lychee, lemon, and lime, it tasted like focaccia bread. I didn’t get any lychee, lemon or rose.
We ordered two entrées, the salmon teriyaki, and the steak teriyaki. Both were served with steamed vegetables. There was little to no teriyaki sauce on either plate plates, the vegetables had literally no seasoning whatsoever. I actually asked for soy sauce to add some level of flavoring to the dishes.
The only things that were semi good were the three rolls of sushi we ordered. We got the king salmon avocado, the nami heat, and the kari kari shrimp. They were slightly above average in terms of sushi rolls.
The atmosphere is really cool, and you can tell there was a lot of intentionality in the decoration, which made the atmosphere really enjoyable. But the food and the drinks were about as mid as I’ve experienced in a very long time. I’m hopeful since this place just opened things will turn around and it will get better.

Came here for lunch and it was such a good time! Atmosphere is so cool, food is delicious + fresh, and staff/management are friendly! I really cannot stress the how cool the design was. This restaurant made me forget I was in Indianapolis. What a great addition to Indiana.
