The fried onion burger was invented in Oklahoma in 1920 during The Great Depression. Onions were cheap and beef was expensive so people started adding onions to their burgers to cut down on costs. Fast forward a century later and the fried onion burger is still a highly sought-after bite that has expanded way beyond Oklahoma!
The Fried Onion burger that’s featured in food festivals around the world is now coming to Wilmington, North Carolina!

I thought this place was closed when I pulled up because there were no cars in the parking lot. I’m an out of towner, in Wilmington for work. I have never had better onion rings than the ones served here. The smash burger was phenomenal. I got a single as it comes with nothing extra. Meat, cheese, onions, bread. It truly needs nothing else. About to finish and get a milkshake to go. If you haven’t been here, run, don’t walk

Outstanding smashburger! The meat itself tastes delicious and the onions and cheese just enhance the taste of the sandwich. The toasted potato bun adds a nice texture..,I added coleslaw to mine.
Fries and onion rings were also tasty. Everything cooked with beef tallow instead of unhealthy cooking oils.
This will be a regular lunch stop whenever Im in town.

We were welcomed right off the bat and told the person at the resigter it was our first time here. He offer a few suggestions which we ultimately went with.
The burgers were a pretty good size with a decent amount of the toppings we chose. Flavorful, meaty, cheesy and somewhat greasy but not a grease ball.
Fries were plenty and the seasoning was very good. Lots of cheese, bacon and green onions. If I decide to visit them again, I’d ask if they can fry the fries just a bit longer.
Not sure what’s up the AC. It was as if they had it off. The place was warm and a bit stuffy. Tables were clean. Condiments and utensils were plenty.

Double with cheese, pickle chips add bacon & burger sauce. Mesquite BBQ seasoned fries. Tasty and full of favor, my taste buds were the recipient of the Chef’s grilling technique. Fries were crispy yet still Meaty with the right amount of seasoning. This was my first time visiting Ok.Bugers and the experience was pleasant. I would recommend to friends and family. Lastly, I’d like to thank your Staff for being professional in every way.

Waited 25+ mins for a 2 burger, 2 fries, 2 drink order. Other customers waited as long or longer. Light customer traffic at the time. When my order was finally ready, staff acknowledged the salted sweet potato wedges were not ready and would bring them out. 10 mins later cinnamon sweet potato wedges were delivered. I am not a fan of smash burgers and this one gave me no reason to reconsider. Buns were soggy. Potato fries were cold. The prep process created an intolerable delay in order delivery. I won’t be going back.

This might be one of the best burgers and thing of fries I’ve had in a long time. I would buy just the seasoning they put on the fries if they sold it. The crisp on the burger, the bacon and cheese, it was fantastic. Will definitely come back.

One of the best burgers I’ve had in a long time and worth every penny. My husband and I both ordered double cheeseburgers, I added lettuce and grilled jalapeños to mine it was absolutely phenomenal. The caramelized onions are SOOO yummy. The crispy edges of the burger are full of so much flavor. Already thinking about what I’m going to get the next time I stop by.

Food is like super super expensive but not bad. Kinda greasy burger, fries were really salty with coarse salt. Staff was super friendly. The actual restaurant was warm I thought it could have been a little colder or have fans going. Small eating area.

The fries and burger were really good. I would eat here again. The fries have to be hot because they soften up after a few minutes. They cooked everything after I ordered it. They put good amount of course salt which is excellent on them. It was a nice find in wilmington. Oh yeah, I added mustard and pickles to the burger. I should have had the the original way they recommend.

Excellent food, the onions smashed into the burger were just right, not over powering. Would definitely recommend the BBQ seasoning on your fries and if you have several people, order both the Tulsa and OKC fries so you can get the best of both worlds! We traveled over an hour to try this place and will definitely be back again. The crew was very friendly and helpful! Thanks folks!
