Weekend reservations are recommended for this BYOB eatery offering Japanese, Thai & Korean cuisine.

The food here is always good. The decor is classy. Service is always just ok. The music tho…omg horrible. It’s like you walked to a hotel bar in the 90s. The monotone techno music that sounds like a record that’s stuck. I can’t wait to get out of there.

The food was great! Just like the name “Oishi”! (It means yummy in Japanese) I really recommend those shrimp tempura rolls, they were my favorite! Other than the food, the atmosphere was great. The staff were so nice and they walked around to talk with the customers.
Overall, everything was so good! You should try!

Sushi, Japanese and Asian Fusion. Never had a bad meal here. Large facility that can get very full on a Saturday eve. Sushi and alcohol bar.

This is the worst Restaurant, I have ever been. I order a beef curry, I get a vegetarian curry. I asked if I ordered vegeterian or beef and they tell me this is the “lunch portion”. If it at least would taste good – it doesn’t.
My son orders two cucumber rolls – this is 10$. They make it 14$ – I asked why. It is because it’s their lunch offer 😀
No apologies, nothing. Definately will not be back..

I really like this restaurant. They have decent food for a restaurant in the suburbs and a nice atmosphere. I’m just giving 4 stars because last time I was here one of the workers was rushing us out even though we were done eating already and getting ready to leave anyway. They close at 2:30 pm to get ready for dinner and we were done at 2:32 and one of the girls came over to tell us they are closed. I am an avid restaurant goer and have never experienced this in my 37 years. Usually people give you at least 10-15 minutes to wrap it up. Staff need to work on congeniality.

Very poor experience here. This was last week of december 2025, after the christmas holiday. Came back to Newtown to visit family. Thought i’d be visiting my one favorite restaurant, only to be incredibly disappointed and left very dissatisfied.
We walked in for our 5PM reservation with maybe 4 other tables in the restaurant occupied. Made sure to order by 5:20PM. Food took a total of 90 minutes to come out the kitchen, we never received apps (2 dishes didn’t make it out, and was left on the receipt, customer noticed to urge waitress to correct). Everything came out sporadically. Other tables who came long after us were getting all sorts of hot dishes before us.
Staff was a mess. Nobody was working the bar. The wrong staff were trying to fulfill mixed drink orders instead of being transparent and making drinks the wrong way, charging full price. The portions were smaller and the food is more expensive. I got a few sushi in addition to gop dol. The shrimp tempura supreme used to be double the size, as was the chicken delight. It felt like there was 1 person working in the kitchen. I was waiting for Gordon Ramsay to come out and start screaming.
This was the most disappointing newtown dining experience I’ve had in a long time. It feels like they take advantage of their tenure in newtown knowing people will order here regardless of the quality they put out. This really sucked. I will not be coming back, and that’s disappointing to say because I’ve been eating here since 2014 at least and it was a favorite. Wouldn’t be surprised if their the next to close their doors if they keep this up.

I really dont like to write poor reviews, but we had awful service. We sat down and nobody came to our table for about 15 minutes. When our server Suwanee W, came to our table, we were expecting to be able to place a drink order. Instead she was very cold and asked if we were ready to order our food. No greeting, no apology for the wait, no drinks? Then the remaining time she was just very unfriendly/ unpleasant. As a server, you are the face of the restaurant. People are coming in to spend money at your restaurant with their family and they are made to feel unwelcome. The sushi was okay, but nothing special. I didn’t even get a drink because I was put off from my first interaction with our server.

The food was very good. The Tuna Tataki and Tuna Sashimi rolls were excellent. The rolls had a nice amount of caviar. Chicken Satay was very tender and the peanut dipping sauce was so good. Chicken Yakatori was also tender.
Chicken Bulgoki was fantastic and the portion size was huge. However, while the Oishi Teriyaki Shrimp and Scallops were delicious, the portion size was a bit small. Overall we were satisfied with the food and service.
Their new location is nicely decorated but the front area is staged for takeout orders and it really detracts from the vibe. The servers are dressed appropriately but the rest of the staff including the ones that seat you are dressed sloppily… old jeans and tshirts. I shouldn’t be surprised because most of the patrons were dressed worse. Dirty jeans, old running shorts, sweat shirts, ripped tshirts, etc. Considering the prices, location and decor, they should enforce a better dress code.
I don’t think we’ll go back.

Had an amazing time with my friends for lunch at Oishi, Newtown. I loved their Vegetarian Sushi with Cucumber and Avocado ; the salad with their amazing ginger dressing & Pad Thai (vegetarian option). My friends loved the chicken Sate and a chicken hot plate dish. (Forgot the name). The waitress was really friendly and explained things very clearly too.

Was lucky enough to snag a seat at the brand new bar last night for their grand reopening. Really love what they did with the space and truly excited for the addition of the bar so that we can enjoy their great custom cocktails with newtown’s best sushi. The food is obviously still on point but beware of their penicillin drink! With their in-house pressed ginger and bitters, holy crap they are dangerously delicious! Love the upgraded esthetic and vibe at Oishi! Oh and lastly i love that they brought over some of the korean menu items like boa buns and crispy korean fried chicken from their other spot Omiza
