Parking is kind of a joke here. There are only 3 spots in the back. Since we are from out of state, we didn’t know if street parking was allowed but we followed suit with other patrons and found a spot off State.
Walking in, the venue is pretty cute. It’s bright, florally and pretty. I adore the wall decor, plants and unique tables. Outside looking in, you would have never guessed it would look so nice inside. I guess you should never judge a book by it’s cover.
There were initially 2 people behind the counter working when we got there. Then it was just the lady making sandwiches. Poor thing was stressed! She was trying to push these orders out while people were piling up. We stood there for a while with no one to help us. Finally the sweet lady asked us what we wanted and that she’d start making our sandwiches for us. Not gonna lie, it took a minute for our sandwiches to be made. Finally the lady that was initially there showed back up. What compelled her to leave during lunch hour baffles me. We waited for a hot minute and eventually 4 other people popped up behind us. She was trying to be all nice and chummy to us but in reality, I looked at her like how can you leave your staff high and dry like that? Especially during lunch rush hour.
I ordered the S2 today. Honey glazed pork with all the trimmings. We took our sandwiches back to our Airbnb to enjoy. Unwrapping the sandwich, it looked great. You can see the pickled diakon and carrots. It was topped with a lot of cilantro. There were chunky slices of jalapenos and cucumber. The pork was on the bottom of all the veggies.
Biting into the sandwich, I got a lot of that honey glazed pork. It was sweet and savory. You can tell the bread wasn’t recently baked. It wasn’t crusty and super soft in the middle. It was still a good baguette but not fresh. The pickled diakon and carrot made it’s way in after a couple bites. The cucumber and jalapenos did add a nice crunchy element to the sandwich. I did add some mayo to the sandwich. It needed it. Some of the glazed pork was dry and hard. Some were tender and moist. Each bite was different and you didn’t know if you’re going to enjoy the pork in that bite or not.
Ranking this place as a whole, I can only give it a 3. The sandwich was good but it had some inconsistencies about it. The lady leaving her employee high and dry during rush lunch hour is just craziness to me. The wait was rather annoying but the lady making the food had no choice to push a fast as she could. Parking is interesting. The venue is cute and well decorated. I guess it’s good we checked this joint out. I will have to pass and try another spot out. Today’s visit wasn’t enough for me to want to come back anytime soon.
Asked to be on brief hold and dude never came back. I tried recalling only to get busy signal. $38.00 for 2 brisket pho soups. Total of 8 pieces of 1 inch squares of brisket meat??
I will not be coming back here for pho.
2024 update: still the best! Their service is fantastic and food is amazing. Today I had their garlic ribeye bahn mi… it’s to die for.
