Enjoyed stopping by on lunch break with my colleagues. The food was up to standards, flavorful, and fresh. The ribs were seasoned well, somewhat zesty but good. Baked beans complimented the rice as well along with the macaroni and cheese. Will be returning soon!

I didn’t eat in, I carried out. The meats are tasty, the sides are fine. I like the sweetness of the potato salad but that may not appeal to everyone. I ordered collard greens for a senior I was sitting; she said they should’ve been cooked more but the flavor was okay.
My husband ate everything on his plate so it was great to him.
Forgot to take pictures when I got the food to where I was senior-sitting. Oh, well.
I would order here again if I’m in the area.

Offset Smoker BBQ – Government Street, Baton Rouge, LA
⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)

Offset Smoker BBQ, located on Government Street between Sonic and Superior Grill, is a relatively new addition to Baton Rouge’s barbecue scene—and it’s definitely worth checking out. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the menu offers a wide variety of meats (brisket, pork belly, chicken, ribs, sausage, pulled pork, turkey) and classic Southern sides.

I ordered the brisket plate with potato salad and collard greens. The brisket was tender, flavorful, and generously portioned (about five slices, including both lean and moist cuts, plus burnt ends). The collard greens were seasoned well and very tender. The potato salad, unfortunately, tasted store-bought and lacked personality.

The plate came with a tangy-sweet barbecue sauce, pickled onions, and pickles—all great pairings with the meat. My biggest disappointment was the bread: a cold, unbuttered slice that felt like an afterthought. Texas toast would have taken the meal up a notch.

Pricing is a bit high for barbecue (my plate was $21), but the quality of the meat made it worthwhile. I plan to return to try the pork belly and more of the menu.

Overall, Offset Smoker BBQ nails the barbecue but could improve on the sides and bread. Still, a solid spot. 4 stars. Worth a visit—just ask them to toast your bread!

Underrated! First off the name suggests Smoked Meats and that’s exactly what I got and not a play on words. I’ve had the opportunity to live near Kansas City for over 10 years so when you know then you know. My food was smoked to perfection with the authentic Smoke Ring intact. The spice profile was unique in its own way using cultural flavors and the presentation was nothing short of a culinary genius. The owner and staff, you can talk to them all day, Very friendly.

I’ve had barbecue in several different venues in Baton Rouge and surrounding cities, that put such items on their menu like brisket at a BBQ restaurant and immediately you noticed it wasn’t given its proper due, none of which can compete with Offset Smoker in this space alone. If you can’t make time for the 14-16 hour process then your not giving brisket its proper due. And yes, putting it on the grill for an hour or 2 then finishing it in the oven is not right at all..lol, I won’t name names but you know who you are. This is sad because I understand Offset Smokers’ approach in which is heavier spoken of in other states like Texas, Kansas, the Carolinas and others which is why I started this post with underrated. Come and try real smoked Meats that can stand up to big-name restaurants like Franklin’s in Texas and you won’t be disappointed.

First time trying and I was impressed by the meats that are seasoned and tender well!! The Mac and cheese taste like they were made with Kraft Mac and cheese and collard greens had no taste whatsoever but, everything else was delicious I will definitely come back to try something else something else on they menu cause I don’t live on that side of town anymore

Ribs:
The ribs are well smoked, nicely seasoned and quite tender. I would prefer a bit more chew, the ribs are truly fall off the bone but for me, I prefer a bit more chew and firmness of mouth feel but they are really good. UPDATE BELOW.

Update on the ribs on my second trip. This is embarrassing but they were awful! The ribs seemed like they were cooked the day before and left in the warmer. Not sure why they would sell something like this. Consistency is the key to GOOD BBQ and I have NOT found it here. If you order anything to go, check it for quality before you leave so you don’t have this experience. Crusty meat is what it was!!!!!
RIBS – 2.1 updated rating.

Turkey:
The turkey is smokey, peppery and oh so tender. I really like the turkey a LOT the chew tenderness and that pepper makes for a really great bite, you will NOT be disappointed. 9.2

Brisket:
I received a mixture of Flat and point. The brisket is really tender, very smokey and lightly seasoned. The brisket I had was a bit dry, I like to eat my brisket standalone without the need for Sauce but in this case, the sauce was needed to add moisture and more flavor to the brisket. Not my favorite but pretty good.

7.8

Sausage:
I received a mixture of sausage:
Original – really good I can’t say much more than that on the pros side. Really well seasoned, smokey and a great snap so it holds together well. I would like a bit more fat in the sausage to provide a bit more moisture and flavor but these were very good. 8.8

Jalapeño Sausage – WOW!!!!! This is right up my alley. Great casing, spicy, moist, just the right amount of cheese and just AWESOME! They may be a bit to spicy for some but for anyone that likes the spice, these are GREAT!!!!! 9.9

Gator Bites: Just Ok 6.3

Wasn’t impressed. Portions were terribly small, seasoning was non existent, beans were not cooked down enough, mac tasted like it was out of a box. The one thing I can say, the ribs and brisket were cooked very well, but almost flavorless. Brisket was a little dry too, had decent fat content but drained of all juice. To top it all off they gave me one piece of uncooked butterbread to go with it. I won’t be going back, wish I could get my $33 back! Oh well, gave em a shot. Edible but not delicious like I hoped it would be. Hannah Q down the street is better, more flavorful and Podnuh’s still has the best beans, even if that’s the only thing you go for! Beware a lot of better options!

The young men that work there were great. The outside setup was nice, even on a hot day. The bathroom was really clean, stocked, and functional.
We ordered
1. The leg quarter plate with mac and cheese and potatoe salad. Second Meat of ribs
2. The rib plate with greens and potatoe salad. Second meat of pull pork. And a sausage.

The main issue we had was that everything was on a sweet profile. The food wasn’t hot, it was only warm. So, it got cold really fast and it was hot outside. We were hungry and lived too far to take it home and eat it. Even with the meat being sweet, it still had the smokey flavor of smoked barbecue. The mac and cheese was good. Everybody potatoe salad and greens are going to be different, but even that had a sweet profile. The portions with the price were ok. I can’t complain. No dessert they only had banana pudding, and I dont eat that.

It was our first time trying it. So, all in all, I wouldn’t drive an hour plus to go back. They had a lot of people pull up and order to go. Everyone taste buds are not the same. I just gave you our opinion. Oh, sorry, I dont remember how much I paid because I elected for receipt by text, and I didn’t get it. I got a review text.

Unfortunately they were out of 2 things we went there to eat.. the turkey sandwich was a great size for a lady to get, not too filling at all! Mac and cheese was decent, about a 6/10. The spicy asian bbq sauce was amazing!! Meat was seasoned and had a good smokey flavor also juicy!! Coleslaw was a 7/10, some chucky black wouldve really made it pop!! Potato salad was a 7/10. And banana pudding was a 6/10. Overall good experience- we might go back to try the armadillo eggs and burnt ends.

The best BBQ in BR! Service is great and the food is delicious! We especially love the brisket and smoked turkey. If the beef ribs are on special, DON’T PASS IT UP.
