Such good home-cooking! I’m not big on eating “home cooking” at restaurants because it never quite lives up to that promise of tasting like great-granny’s mashed potatoes and Aunt Ethel’s macaroni and cheese. You know what I mean. Well! We dropped in the other night (thankfully not with my Celiac husband). I got the beef tips, green beans, and mashed potatoes. First of all, you pay about $8 for two sides, a meat, a roll/cornbread, and a drink, which is a little high to me. BUT you get so much food! I couldn’t finish all of mine, which was a shame. I think the potatoes were actually and really mashed potatoes, because I got a lump now and again that wouldn’t be possible with instant. The beef tips were also excellent, tender, and not nearly as fatty as I would’ve guessed. The green beans were good, and my mom even commented that they were “grandma green beans” because it tasted truly southern and home-made. We were really impressed.

(For any Celiacs following or surfing my reviews: This isn’t safe for you, and I don’t recommend it for you. For anyone else, YES. It was super tasty. But it cannot accommodate gluten-free needs probably unless you only have an intolerance.)

A different lunch option with thick crust pizza, salads soups, wings and baked potatoes. Guests sit at pIcnic tables with table cloths. Service is friendly and efficient. Pizza could have been warmed up a little, but was very tasty. The restaurant has entrances inside the mall and outside.

I usually don’t get a chance to visit these restaurant. But I had some free time, to get a meatlovers pizza. I had to wait for the pizza to be cook which seem like forever but the wait was worth it. The pizzas here a great.

This was my first time eating here. I had lemon pepper wings and the baked potato bar . The wings were fried a little too hard and they were very small. No lemon pepper Flavor at all besides the sprinkle of LP on top. The potato was huge and the bar has a plethora of toppings,(wich I like). The cheese sauce has no flavor though. The service was good so I will give them another try…someday. ⭐⭐⭐ Overall

I’m pleasantly surprised the food here is actually delicious. I had low expectations based on what I saw on the bar during previous visits to the mall later in the evenings. I recently moved to milledgeville and I’ve been tasting my way through the city. So far I havent been thoroughly impressed with any of the local options and very few of the chain options. I decided to visit octagon cafe during peak lunch time to ensure I was getting the full menu fresh. What I ordered was well prepared and surprisingly well seasoned. I honestly expected bland food. The price was great as well. I will definitely go back.

Clean. Servers wear gloves and a hair covering. The food quality is good. It reminds me of S&S, old school Morrisons formally of Macon Mall, or Piccadilly but tastes better!
Good portion size for the cost and NOT loaded with salt! Thanks!

Overall great place for lunch.

My wife and I ate at 6:30 on a Friday. The fried fish was cold, dry, and as hard as shoe leather. My mac ‘n cheese was a gelatinous blob of solid goo. The cornbread muffin was probably excellent hours earlier when it came out of the oven, but it was cold too. I forced myself to eat what I’d bought, solely to stave off hunger, but it was an unpleasant experience. My wife had a fried chicken breast; I asked how it was, and she said she wasn’t inclined to come back. I agree with her sentiments. If the food was like this at 6:30, I can only wonder what it was like when the place closed at 8:00.

I was a customer for years, especially on Thursday for Turkey and dressing. I retired and still stopped by for lunch. I happened to mention I was looking for part time work. Got hired on the spot, been there 15 months. All of our food is home cooked, we strive for consistency in taste and quality. I recommend anyone to come by and judge for yourself.

While the Milledgeville mall desperately needs more food court options, currently 2(Chinese & soul food), what it did not need was the OE.
They offer loaded potatoes, salads, pizza, and ice cream. Now while you think these are great adds they would be if they were executed properly. I have tried all but the ice cream on several visits. they have no menu or pricing available for their customers at this time.
The pizza is by far the biggest let down. I can overlook wilted lettuce in a salad, an $8 baked potato, and flat soft drinks, but not the pizza. Even frozen bake at home shines over their offerings.
The staff is super friendly and the place is always clean-ish. They offer aluminum picnic tables for seating which can often be left messy by the patrons. The hardest thing to get over is the price you pay for what you get. I have visited half a dozen times and each time my bill was over the $10 mark per person with drinks. That’s a little high for lunch and the quality is lacking despite the fresh ingredients. This place needs a culinary makeover and they have only been open a month. Hopefully they can smooth things out with the menu and pricing and become something great. For now because they are still new and figuring things out I would recommend the soul food across the hallway. Same owners, but that, they have figured out.
