It’s usually full, but that just proves how good it is. I highly recommend it.
The food was high quality, beautifully presented, priced fairly and they have so much variety I’d come back to explore the menu.
I highly recommend ocean to all locals and visitors!
The biggest drawbacks were the lack of staff training and operational inefficiency. The servers were not knowledgeable about the menu, and we had to explain the sushi plates they offered, which is frustrating as a customer. On top of that, the hostess struggled to manage wait times and tables, causing long delays and flustered interactions.
The menu is overwhelming and feels overcomplicated. A streamlined focus on core items could improve the experience. Adding to the confusion, we were handed an old menu without any heads-up, leading to multiple drink orders being unavailable.
While this might be one of the few trendy spots in Friendswood with decent food, the service and management issues make it feel overrated. It’s a “one and done” for me.
The atmosphere had a modern Japanese aesthetic, with thoughtful details like hooks under the bar seating and wall outlets for convenience.
Service was great—my waiter was patient and attentive, making the experience smooth and enjoyable.
I ordered a bento box from the lunch menu, choosing teriyaki steak and tempura shrimp. The set included a choice of soup (miso or hot & sour) and rice (fried or white). The miso soup was standard, and the California roll was simple but decent. The spring roll, which was more like an egg roll, was covered in sweet and sour sauce—I would have preferred it on the side.
The presentation was nice, with the rice molded into a mountain shape, though I think it would have been better if it were a bit softer. The highlights of my meal were the teriyaki steak and shrimp tempura—both were exceptionally delicious! The steak sauce was well-balanced, not overpowering, and the tempura was perfectly crispy and light.
Overall, it was a good experience, and I would actually come back to try more from their menu.
