First, I want to address something I’ve seen mentioned—people saying they feel rushed. Honestly, I didn’t feel that at all. The staff clearing plates isn’t rushing you—it’s just them keeping the table clean and making sure you have space. I stayed longer than most, and no one hurried me. I felt completely at home and welcome to stay as long as I wanted.
Now, onto the food—wow. This place is a solid five stars for me. The sushi bar was fresh and incredible, the hibachi was top-notch (I asked for extra spicy, and they delivered!), and the crab legs were amazing. I had more than my fill, and every bite was delicious.
The atmosphere is beautiful, with a spacious layout that never feels overcrowded. The rest of the buffet had a great variety, all hot, fresh, and tasty. My drinks were always refilled quickly, and the staff were polite, courteous, and attentive.
Five stars across the board—I’ll definitely be coming back and bringing friends and family with me.

For a buffet of Asian-style food, my friends and I thought the food was great on MLK Day, 2026. My friends and I are of Okinawan, Japanese, Filipino, and Hawaiian families. Two of us worked in the first Japanese restaurant in Oceanside in the early 1970s that was owned and operated by Japanese. While it would have been easy for us to nitpick about a lack of premium-quality grade ingredients, we all agreed that Ocean Buffet has very good food for a buffet and is a great bargain. Bring a good appetite. We will come back again with our wives and more friends. Only $18.95 for a weekday lunch. 10% off for seniors!
From what I observed the restaurant is very clean and the personnel friendly. Used plates were cleared promptly. We didn’t feel rushed during our two and a half hour lunch. We left a generous tip.

Went there today and all I can say is WOW!!!
From the customer service, cleanliness, organization, and food selection, this place is top notch! Every crew were so polite and nice. Everybody is making sure that the customers are well taken care of, and that the food is well stocked.
The diversity of food options is amazing!!! Not only that but they are all very tasty as well!!!! Every single dish did not disappoint! Definitely worth every penny. A must try for sure!!! Highly recommended!!!

Super awesome new buffet!! Great options, good fried fish, chicken, veggies, a noodle grill and sushi too! Lot of favorites, nice service and clean spot! Definitely recommend, price is great during the week lunch too:)

Sadly one of the sushi rolls made me want to gag. I ended up telling them that the roll went bad and they didn’t even try to taste it themselves. The waitresses were nice and tried to resolve it, but the sushi chefs disregarded.
They said that is just how it’s supposed to taste. I’ve ate sushi my whole life and never wanted to puke
Please take customers comments seriously. And try the roll yourself if a customer says something.

– add strawberries so people can make chocolate strawberries

My cousin brought me here and I was impressed that they served dim sum. I mostly ate from the sushi bar and stir-fry bar but I will say that my favorite item was their chicken & sticky rice wrapped in a lotus leaf.

My daughter was asking to go here since it opened. Finally I decided to take her on a father daughter date on Friday. The place was nice and clean. The staff was nice. I did feel a little crowded at times, but nothing serious. The sushi was borderline gas station sushi at best. No taste, very bland and probably the worst sushi that I’ve had. Most of the food was over cooked and cold. The rice was hard and crunchy. The only thing that had any taste to it was the jalapeño chicken. Even the crab legs were bland and very small with little meat in them. I’m not sure if it was an off night or what, but we don’t need to go back.

Ocean Buffet in Carlsbad was a fantastic find! The staff provided excellent, friendly service and effortlessly split our bill. The place was spotless, and the atmosphere was calm and not crowded when we arrived between lunch and dinner. They have a fresh food selection, and tasty options. I enjoyed dinner items ($30.99), while my two companions had lunch dishes ($19.50 each). They also offer a senior discount, which was a nice touch.

Super busy on this Friday lunchtime feast. Atmosphere was rough. A long ways from being a nice sit down buffet as all fixtures seemed rather weary. Not tired, but not fresh. I can’t say it wasn’t clean, but it certainly didn’t give me the fresh and easy feeling. Presentation of foods was about the most plain and mediocre as I have seen for a buffet.
All servers seemed rather rude and would make their way past you by use of any means (squeezing through, elbowing you as they pass, or just standing in your way). The layout is definitely for adding more and more customers. I even thought to myself, “where does someone go to so much matching furniture?” They could not have fit anymore tables. They also couldn’t have made it more complicated to get to the food from basically any seated position, because they put a ‘servers station’ right where everyone could walk through. Nope!, gotta fit more customers.
I thought all of the food had good flavors, textures and seasoning . . . except the flavorless array of sushi, sashimi and such. Every piece was completely empty of flavor (what do you expect for a buffet sushi?).
Price was good for lunch at $20 each. Plenty of choices and all pans seemed well maintained and the foods I ate were well up to temp.
I really can’t say that I won’t be back, but I probably won’t be back.
